My sister and I booked a 2 night spa break package. Lovely big room with 2 double beds. Housekeeping team helped us with an issue and left us a treat of complimentary drinks.
Ann at Spa reception was fab and made us very welcome. All the staff in the Spa café area were also lovely, except one female on Sunday afternoon. Sadly she stood out due to her curt manner and unprofessional approach when speaking to staff member and a customer.
I received 2 top notch treatments from Sarah, the best I've ever had here or anywhere else. My sister was unlucky on Sunday and received her treatment with an agency lady who was well below standard. However, her Monday's treatment was great - delivered by an experienced member of the spa staff who's name I missed.
All in all a relaxing, self indulgent break, made special by some dedicated staff.

The main building is lovely but the newer wings are in need of some work. More signs are needed. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was fine.

The bar staff seemed inexperienced and in need of training.

A supervisor spoke harshly to the bar staff in our hearing which was rather unprofessional.

Booked a overnight stay on a wowcher deal.
The hotel is a very old building with some parts needing a little bit of love giving to them.
However our room had pretty modern fixtures/fittings and was nice and warm on check in.
We found the bed comfy and robes & slippers were provided for spa use.
The pool was ok and we had a nice relaxing swim.
Would like to give special praise to Chloe who was brilliant and looked after us when we had our evening meal in the restaurant.
The menu could do with a bit of refresh as nothing really stood, average pub grub type of fare.
The only real negative I’d give was we finished our evening with a drink in the bar and it was freezing 🥶 so didnt feel relaxing. We couldnt couldnt wait to finish up and get back to the room to warm up.
Breakfast was decent in the morning, lots of choice and nice fresh juices & pastries.
All in all not a amazing stay but not bad either.

Booked a regular overnight spa with a friend. We return to the a Dunkenhalgh as the staff are always accommodating, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Had an amazing treatment with the lovely Sarah C, felt so relaxed when I came away. Ann in the spa cafe goes above & beyond and has become almost family to us. And then we have the lovely Aziz in the Cameo restaurant who welcomes you with open arms and again nothing is too much trouble. The reception team are very knowledgeable and will help with your needs. All in all a fabulous hotel … we will return again & again. Helen & Paula 💞

Although only a short stay, it was the excellent staff who made it a really pleasant experience. From the warm welcome on arrival to the bar and restaurant we were looked after by polite and courteous staff. Aziz was particularly attentive, he couldn’t do enough to ensure we didn’t want for anything and we were enjoying our stay. I watched him with other guests too; such a warm, polite and personable member of staff. We ate in the hotel restaurant on Saturday night. Again the waiting staff were particularly attentive, polite and courteous. I will mention them because they made us feel valued throughout: Amanda, Sara, Chloe, Ben, Carla and Nina. The food was excellent too! I’ve stayed in this hotel before so I’m happy with the rooms and other hotel facilities. I think it’s the staff that makes hotels stand out from each other, hence my review. Thank you.

I had a great experience at the NODA awards and the staff on the bar specifically, Jack, Mal and Louis, who made the experience very memorable and provided great service throughout the night, could not recommend them enough. They were very down to speak to us and were extremely helpful

The service from Jack, Mal and Louis was brilliant and they went above and beyond to make the night a fantastic experience, they had great manners and were extremely charming. Jack in particular provided constant table service and seemed genuinely interested in what we had to say. He even offered to give us free drinks as we had just recently lost a loved one. I wish we had more jacks in the world.

Disappointing in some levels mainly the distance between reception and rooms. You pass through several rooms then cut across a covered walk way another long corridor and down a flight of stairs. The room was big with a huge hard bed. The restaurant food we had first night was underwhelming for the price. Building looking tired, dated and wouldn’t rush back

We stayed here using a Wowcher voucher bought as gift, there was a mix up whilst checking in which was dealt with quickly and professionally by the reception staff. We were allocated a lovely room and enjoyed the excellent Spa facilities. Breakfast was plentiful and the staff were attentive and friendly.
Now for the negatives... we booked for dinner at 7pm and arrived promptly, we were shown to a table at the back of the restaurant after waiting approx 20 minutes someone came to take our drinks and food order, both which arrived promptly. Once finishing our mains 30 mins or more passed with out anyone coming to see if we needed more drinks or to order dessert,We eventually managed to catch the eye of a waitress to enquire about the dessert menu, she seemed most put out that we didn't have one and that she had to fetch one, so much so that after 15 minutes she hadn't brought one. We had had enough by then and walked out. I don't think it was too much of a coincidence that most of the other tables were occupied by young men all who appeared to receive much better service from the young female staff. Our stay would have been perfect had it not been for the shocking service received in the restaurant.

53rd Wedding anniversary was made extra special. We were upgraded, bedroom decorated, thanks to the wonderful housekeeping people, all totally unexpected. We stayed one night, enjoyed drinks in the bar and a meal in the restaurant. The menu was small but enough choices and freshly prepared. Ladies need a shawl if staying in the new annex as to reach this there is a covered walkway but open to any windy weather. We didn't have any problems parking and as long,as you are a resident there is no charge. We didn't have time to sample the pool or spa. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I must say the full breakfast was the best I've ever had. Sausages were tasty, bacon good full rashers, scrambled eggs firm snd not watery like some hotels. There was also a choice of poached or fried eggs. Thus hotel was perfect for our stay. Not too far to travel from Huddersfield for a one nighter.

Lovely old hotel but in need of a bit of investment. Probably absolutely beautiful in its heyday but looking tired in places now. I attended for a conference and while it was very pleasant, the electricity for sockets cut out twice and the room was very cold and had to be heated with portable heaters.
Staff were very well presented and pleasant throughout. Ample parking for the building and good signage to get there. Signage inside the building could be clearer, or even a map as its quie a sprawling building. Food and drink was average quality, served on time and reasonably hot. We had a buffet so can't comment on menu but tasty enough.
Would be a nice venue for wedding in terms of photo opportunities but definitely needing a little bit of modernisation in terms of small details. Can't comment on rooms as I didn't stay over.

Thanks to Anna, who made us very welcome. Bar service was 11 out of 10. Anna was very professional and very helpful on what to order for dinner.
Thanks, Anna.
When others let us down, you were there to make our stay pleasant.
We all said we would come back as long as Anna is still there.

First, the good: it"s an amazing beautiful historic building. It was cheap. The staff are lovely.
The bad: it was freezing. It was a cold day, the room was unheated beforehand, the hot water wadn't enough to fill a bath. This was also the case in the 2nd room they moved us to. We complained again and were upgraded, to a room that was warmer but no bath, only a shower!
The spa is ok but not as good as the one at the Mercure Norton Grange. Also, we were not warned that there would be an additional charge for the spa.
We wouldn't go back, especially as the Norton Grange is better. And warm.

Was a bit sceptical booking for my husbands birthday after seeing the reviews on here but thought might as well try as there are mixed reviews! Glad I listened to my gut and went! We loved the stay and so did the kids! It isn’t ‘dated’ as people say; it has so much character to it and it’s that type of hotel. Nice to see a change from the modern type. Our room was nice and clean and comfy. Went to the pool with the kids 5-7 and they thoroughly enjoyed it. The jacuzzi part is not warmer than the rest of the pool but it’s ok. Breakfast was nice in the morning too. Staff were very helpful thank you to the young Asian man at reception who helped us carry our bags to our room. Will defo visit again! :)

Stayed here one night whilst walking the local area.
The check-in staff were friendly, efficient and helpful.
We were upgraded to a double bedded double room. It was quite a walk to get there. Couldn't fault the room in any respect. A good night's sleep.
We ate in the bar, which was a pleasant area to relax in.
The food was OK. The bottled beer expensive.
Buffet breakfast was, as you would expect, good.
We didn't use any of the hotel's facilities.

I often stay at the hotel when I travel up north for a client I consult with. The staff are very accomodating and flexible to my needs as often check in late and have preferd room requirements

With the spa deal and breakfast + parking onsite, its very good value for money

Can highly recommend

Great friendly hotel with bags of history and two ghosts apparently!! Thankfully I didn’t meet them!

Large, spacious room with plenty of desk space.

Great food at dinner, lunch and breakfast.

Shout out to Chuti who checked me in, Becky at check out, Edwena at breakfast and lunch and Stephen F.

Convenient location for travel. Lovely and friendly staff and great ambience. Clean and comfortable and good breakfast too. Just a shame they need to charge residents an extra £10 to use the swimming pool. I suppose it help keep the pool quiet!

Overall the experience was very average. Starting with the food which was very mediocre with not many options on the menu available, the first night the started were brilliant and the chicken burger my partner got was good however I myself ordered from the specials menu and had the beef two ways which said it came with a 4oz rump steak which was never in a million years 4oz I got a strip of beef but the rest of the meal was brilliant and alright quality. Night 2 we both got hummus and garlic bread and one was cold and barely cooked and the other was nearly burnt- lack of consistency is really annoying. Then for mains my partner got a pepperoni pizza, what came was a pizza with pepperoni and also slices of salami which had clearly been used as a substitute. I ordered a burger and it came raw and inedible, however they did refire and the second one that came was edible but not brilliant. Didn’t even bother getting deserts that night and went to bed early.

The spa/pool facilities would’ve been really nice if they were working! We were there for three days and the showers in the facility never worked, the first day one of the steam rooms wasn’t working. However on the second day it had been fixed which was good. However, on the last day none of the facilities were working at all apart from the sauna however there was nowhere to fill up water bottles so to use it ran the risk of becoming dehydrated so we didn’t use it for long. We ended up checking out early because of this.

Shoutout to Molly from the spa team as she was very nice and the most welcoming person I met at the hotel whilst we were there, as well as pierce on reception and Paul in the restaurant and aziz behind the bar and the lovely lady on breakfast on our final morning but didn’t catch her name. But it was clear that most of the other staff didn’t really care. As when having food at all times we were never once was asked if the food was alright. So would advise some serious customer service training for some staff members unfortunately.

Glad we got a decent deal but wouldn’t have been happy paying full price if that’s what the standard is all the time. However it wasn’t busy so I struggle understand how they would cope with a full hotel.

Nice hotel food good at breakfast. The location is ideal central just off the motorway bit disappointed to have to pay for kids to use pool as member of hotel group as this was a reason for choosing that hotel carpet in room dirty but generally clean
