Not clean and near a cow farm so it is smelly.

Rooms were slightly dated, and place was mobbed because of a hotel. This brought some noise

Easy M65 access, Excellent staff, privilege room was very spacious. We booked in just after midnight but no problem whatsoever, used the front desk phone and the night porter was there immediately.

Good hotel but it took us 5 minimum to walk from the reception to the room! We had young children so would have appreciated a room nearby rather literally at the end!
Overall an average hotel to stay! nothing special or extra ordinary. Only good thing was location

First the good bit.
The room was warm and the bed was very comfy.
Aziz and his team at breakfast were attentive and helpful and the breakfast was really tasty with a good selection.
The public areas in the 700 year old manor house look stunning.

Now the negatives.
The primary reason for booking this hotel was that it was advertised as having a charger for electric vehicles - it does, tucked away in a corner of the car park, covered in a plastic sheet and hasn't worked in years. As more and more people drive electric vehicles it would make sense for the hotel to remedy this, especially as some of their less luxurious local competitors are able to provide this facility.

Talking of the car park, you need to register your vehicle at reception to ensure that you don't get threatening letters from a parking company (and reading other reviews even registering is no guarantee)

I'd love to know why they have gone down this route of alienating their customers - it isn't like the hotel is in a busy city centre or close to an attraction like a football stadium where non-residents might take the opportunity to park for free, instead it's half a mile from a motorway, opposite an industrial estate with its own parking areas and otherwise in the middle of nowhere.

Once you look around you can see that the hotel itself has been neglected by the owners since it was taken over by a big chain a few years ago.

The room we stayed in was in the courtyard. The courtyard itself looks very pretty, especially at night when illuminated by fairy lights. Opening the door to the room you noitice that the door was a cheap door probably intended for indoor use, which is probably the reason why it had warped and didn't fit properly. It also offered no soundproofing from external noises. The bathroom door would not latch unless you put your entire body weight against it.

Talking of the bathroom. The lock on the bathroom door had been removed, leaving a hole that allowed you to see the person in the room using the loo. The hot tap in the sink was not fastened down properly, meaning it rotated freely when trying to turn it on. One of the floor tiles was cracked, and when the bathroom was fitted the tilers cracked the glaze on a number of tiles when cutting them and instead of discarding them just stuck the chipped tiles on the wall. Cleanliness in the bathroom was not great either, with black mould spotted around the hinges of the shower door and in the corners of the shower.

The single glazed timber framed windows where in need of repainting as they are showing early signs of rot from not being maintained. The single glazing is also not very soundproof when other guests are moving around, or worse, when the hotel/spa staff are wheeling around containers of fresh and dirty towels at 7am and you hear the wheels bounce over every junction on the stone walkways.

The bar seemed to close early for an establishment of this size and alleged 4 star rating - I haven't stayed at a hotel of this size where the bar closed before midnight anywhere else in the world.

As said in the first line, breakfast was great and Aziz and his team were wonderful - however we did note that the glass roof over the dining room entrance had not been cleaned in years and was covered in moss. Some of the seats in the dining room also had food stains which look to have been there a long time.

This hotel could be (and in the past was) absolutley stunning it just seems that the owners are moreinterested in profit than in increasing the maintenance budget.

As always a great stay over Christmas visiting family. Executive room large and overlooked the wooded area.

Plenty of teas and coffees however no water. A bottle of water would be good.

We did have an issue with shower not flowing hot water however used the bath instead.

Breakfast was simple over Christmas however very tasty. Good quality bacon & sausages were tasty.

Aziz the restaurant supervisor was on his A game as usual. Very calm , fun however professional. I’m always happy to see him on shift over Christmas as I know he will ensure all will go as smoothly as possible with his usual aplomb.

Boxing Day the breakfast team looked thin on the ground however they delivered a great breakfast and worked hard that morning.

Thanks to all the team, breakfast, housekeeping and reception, bar staff and all the others who came into work over the Christmas period so we could visit family.

stayed over Christmas for 3 nights and found he hotel warm and welcoming especially reception and the lovely concierge who was very helpful and found a chair for me to put in reception whilst we waited for our lift (rather surprised there is no seating at all in the reception area).
Our room had been upgraded for free for our stay and was very comfortable, clean and fresh the only down side it was quite a distance from reception that I did rather a struggle with. Again breakfast was very good with nicely cooked food but the coffee from the machines was not hot at all. Aziz the food manager was very helpful. I will stay at the Dunkenhalgh again when I next come to Accrington to visit family.....a big thank you to all the staff/

We stayed at the Dunkenhalgh with family and friends to mark the 80th birthday of my late father in law. The bedrooms were spacious and clean and the hotel kept us all in the same area of the hotel which was quite a feat for a party of 37. We also prearranged a meal for our group. Much to our surprise, we were allocated our own function room - the stunning Portrait Room - which was exquisitely decorated and perfect for our group. The staff were so helpful and friendly. Our stay exceeded our expectations and I look forward to returning.

It was out anniversary and I must say it was a one of a kind experience .. the craft work done by Liliani(lei) was just out of the world.
She show cased her talent and boy did we love it.
Shout out to Amy Elizabeth who made this happen and responded to my emails promptly.
Semoyal was the gentleman we met at the reception and he was very professional, kind and helpful at every moment of our stay.

The breakfast was great , the room was perfect , the toiletries were 5 star. We enjoyed the spa facilities as well.

Pillows were too big for our liking. The pool is small .

Overall we loved our stay and i must say that they do have a good potential to make the place even more better.

We went to the Dunkenhalgh for Christmas Day, what a wonderful experience. We had a drink in the bar to start off. When we were ready we were escorted to our table and seated by Paul. I cannot say how much we were treated, personalised menu, crackers hats the whole kit and caboodle nothing was too much. There was table entertainment in the guise of a magician wonderful experience. The food was First Rate absolutely delicious from beginning to end. We cannot thank the staff enough, Christine said it was so good she wanted to cry happy tears Thank you Dunkenhalgh

Staff and room were lovely. Stayed with my toddler for a few days and we both really enjoyed our stay, reception staff were very welcoming and pool was warm, buffet breakfast was great with a picky 3 year old and reasonably priced. Room had plenty of room to play and rest, really appreciated that we had a shower and bath and nice clean hotel. Would definitely stay again, toddler was sad to leave

The hotel was absolutely gorgeous inside and out. The spa was fantastic and the service excellent. The rooms were large and beautiful. The dinner and breakfast were delicious and high quality. I stayed with my daughters and we enjoyed every minute. I would rate it the nicest hotel I have stayed at and we will definitely go again.

Check was very efficient staff were very welcoming and friendly. Paid to upgrade to an executive double really disappointed as it was 2 single beds zipped together which dipped in the middle resulting in a poor night's sleep.
Breakfast was ok however the buffet was poor waiting for fresh food to come out waited far too long so the food already on your plate had gone cold several staff walked past and no one went into the kitchen to bring out fresh items big let down.
We stay in many different hotels but would not recommend to friends for the reasons outlined above. Struggling to understand why an executive double room would consist of two single beds 😳

We were greeted by lovely friendly Semoyal Nauman and we felt very welcomed he was very professional tried his best to meet our needs he was very efficient and kind went out his way to find a room as we requested with useful information on arrival everything was explained to us we believe the on duty manager needs to credit this lovely man in reception who acknowledged us straight away we believe the manager needs to give Semoyal an amenities or reward for this great team.player who will go far. Thank you for making us feel welcomed and thanks for a great stay.

Welcoming entrance. Check in was easy. Room shower was broken so we were upgraded to the delay bridal suite. It was so lovely. Breakfast was fantastic. Restaurant had a limited choice but was nice. Spa was ok, we used the pool, steam rooms and sauna. The sauna wasn't that hot though. There isn't much in the surrounding area in walking distance.
All in all a fab couple of days away.

The staff were very friendly, especially Sarah who worked in the main restaurant.
The treatments in the spa were lovely and the staff made sure you relaxed.
The hotel was tired in places, and all the extras were expensive. A bottle of Prosecco was £39. We had booked an afternoon tea which was nice, but the scones were shop bought. My mum and sister in-law got a pot of tea, I drink coffee and got a small cup of coffee, when I asked for another I had to pay £4.60 for the pleasure, just little things like that kind of spoiled the experience. I suggest that they provide a pot of coffee with afternoon tea.
We had booked a room with 2 double beds and my mum had her own room, they told us they had upgraded us….the room was nice but we ended up with 2 very thin single beds, so not as wide as a normal single. The bathroom was ok but needed a bit of care.
Overall we had a nice stay and had a lovely time spending time with family. I couldn’t put it at a 4 star.

We love staying at this hotel. The Staff are so welcoming, friendly & helpful. The bedrooms are large, the beds comfy & a good shower. The breakfast is delicious. Easy access from motorway, but surrounded by farmland. We look forward to staying there again.

We really enjoyed our stay this weekend for my birthday night away. We had a lovely relaxing time, had a spa treatment and the members of staff were so friendly! I will be honest it was slightly run down in places throughout the hotel. It’s obviously an old building and has that historic feel which is nice, but I could smell mildew, some cracks around the room etc. I would definitely return but not sure I would pay that much for one night again, only if there was an offer available. I also didn’t enjoy walking through a bar full of drunk people for an event to get to my room. I think I expected it to be a bit more up market for it being a 4 star.

We had a delightful stay, we booked a spa package and I have never felt so relaxed. The hotel is quirky with lots of character. This is our second time stopping here and it didn’t disappoint.

The staff are so welcoming, the food was served quick and we really enjoyed the breakfast. Thank you and we hope to visit again soon!

We stayed for 1day/night as a family with my wife and daughter in 1 room and my wife’s parents in another room / I can honestly say the hotel and staff are all 5 star , from start to finish we had a wonderful time
The Dunkenhalgh is a magical hotel with everything needed you could want -

Had everything that was needed and more and we all

In my opinion, the Mercure Blackburn Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa was an amazing experience to have. Firstly, I was greeted with such great hospitality when I arrived. Secondly, I had free pool access as well as the sauna access too. Thirdly, the hotel room was beautiful as it had all the necessities. Furthermore, the breakfast was included in the package I had which the hotel staff brought to the hotel room with a wide variety of delicious things to eat and drink. Additionally, the hotel was very kind with having drinks in the mini fridge. In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this hotel and spa to family and friends and I would definitely come again!
