The room was spacious and very clean. The buffet breakfast was plentiful. Very friendly staff and a good location. We did not use the spa due to time limitations. The hotel has a very comfortable and welcoming bar. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Cheap deal for a reason

Very run down hotel.

Room was clean, bed was very hard and uncomfortable, shower was cold.

Food was average for the price, the staff got our food order wrong but still charged us for the wrong food on checkout.

Spa, was ok but nothing special.

Reception staff on checkout with very poor English who at first tried to charge me for the wrong room, then I was over charged for food I didn’t have.

Mostly all staff were friendly.

I attended the Zumba event and stayed over the night before. Check in was quick and the receptionist was really helpful and friendly.
I stayed in an executive room which was large and very clean the bed was extremely comfortable and the room temperature was perfect.
I had dinner in the restaurant the food was amazing and the servers were really professional and knowledgeable.
Breakfast was also a feast with so many options.
I visited the spa and pool very relaxing atmosphere.
A big shout out to the cleaners who kept the toilets spotless throughout the day considering the volume of people using them.
Finally a big thank you to Jess who was the perfect host.
I would definitely stay here again.

So I went here for a fitness event the hotel staff were all accommodating, rooms were all clean and as we arrived it looked so glamorous like we were staying in a castle. It felt luxurious and well worth the money can’t wait to book for our next event in October.
On a side Jess was definitely the hostess with the mostess all our requests were accommodated for.

Don’t walk run to book your next stay!!!

We stayed as a getaway me and hubby for the night and booked through Groupon. We had seen we may have to pay extra £10 to use the pool so phoned ahead and spoke to Samuel who said as a Groupon voucher we didn't have to pay extra, that was good to know! We arrived to a beautiful setting, the grounds, the castle, amazing! it felt very special to be there. We checked in with Samuel and it was lovely to meet him and booked our table for evening meal (part of the deal). He took our cases and led us to our room. He informed us we had slippers, robes and a mini bar all included. The room was huge and spotlessly clean! the bed was definitely Queen Anne size and soft cotton bedding. There was a mini bar, although no alcohol had water and juices, which was a real bonus as we put our milk in the fridge! There were tea and coffee making facilities, a huge television, the whole set of freeview channels and the bathroom was beautiful and clean with lit mirror and walk-in shower. We unpacked and felt very comfortable. We were so relaxed we didn't use the leisure facilities so can't comment on them. Being so relaxed we were running late for dinner so phoned reception and asked if we could put our table back 20 mins which was agreed. We entered the restaurant and on giving name and room number were greeted by the lady with "you're late!", which I explained we had phoned down and changed the time and was told "well it wasn't told to me!" with that the lady then told us our deal had "changed" and instead of the meal being included as we had paid for it, we now were given a voucher for up to £25 per person towards food. I argued this and said we had paid for food in the deal upfront and would be happy to go to the room and provide her with the paperwork but she declined and led us to a table. We asked if we could order drinks and she said she would come back and take our order. We waited 20 mins and then she came with a wine menu but we ordered lager. We then waited a further half an hour and a different young lady came to take our food order. I have to say that even though we had a near hour wait for drinks or food on going into the restaurant the food did not disappoint. It was amazing!! The presentation, the taste and even though a selective menu for Groupon it was gorgeous food!! Sometimes you are made to feel a bit different to the normal menu when not on a Groupon but this was superior food!!! We then decided we would like to take our desserts in a “doggy bag” but because Hubby was having a warm dessert with ice cream the Chef didn’t want it to be all melted and so arranged for the lovely young lady in restaurant to accompany us to our room with our desserts on a tray for us to eat at our leisure in the room! Wow, that was a lovely gesture and was not expected! I didn’t get the name of the lovely girl who served us, but know she is studying her A-levels at present and have to say she was so friendly, pleasant and well mannered. She is an absolute asset to the hotel. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel and would definitely go again, this time having a walk around the grounds and enjoying the night away from all the stress of life! I do think the front of house in the restaurant and the time from sitting to being served food could be a little better but all in all, it hasn’t put us off and we look forward to visiting again!

The hotel is located within impressive grounds with a long driveway and plenty of parking. The historic building has an impressive frontage.
As with many hotels in historic buildings, the rooms are a bit variable. It was good to see that there was painting and decorating taking place within the building and it had a feel of being on the up and up. The restaurant and bar area were very good.
We found all the staff to be excellent, so would definitely stay again.

Absolutely loved our stay at this beautiful hotel. We stayed in the DeLacy suite and oh wow we were blown away! It was stunning - felt like we lived there it was that big! The bed was so comfy, the couch was perfect. The bathroom was absolutely stunning. The staircase was beautiful. We did not want to leave. The lady who checked us in was so helpful, polite and very professional.

My husband and I live in Edinburgh and decided to visit England for a long weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary and my husband’s birthday. We chose to stay at the Mercure, and we had an amazing experience!

The staff were incredibly friendly and polite, especially Sam at reception and Aziz from the restaurant — both went above and beyond to make our stay special. Our room was beautifully decorated for our anniversary, which was such a lovely surprise.

The hotel itself is stunning, our room was super comfortable, and the food was absolutely delicious. The restaurant’s ambiance was fantastic, and the spa was a wonderfully relaxing experience. I also really enjoyed the gym!

I highly recommend this hotel, especially if you’re celebrating a special occasion — it’s the perfect choice!

We enjoyed our overnight stay at this hotel. Stopped here once before and both times found the rooms that we stayed in very spacious and comfortable. The staff seem really friendly and obliging and the food was enjoyable too. The hotel is in nice grounds with good access for visiting local attractions

I came at the weekend with my mum and our 2 friends for a birthday trip. Our stay on a whole was lovely, a nice bar and lovely food. There was a long wait for drinks in the bar in the afternoon but the barman was on his own doing table service in a rush of a dew guests at once, but still have great service and made us laugh.
The only thing that was a let down was disability accessibility. As it is an old building the flags on the ground was a hazard for using a walking frame, despite this the hotel was brilliant and provided a wheelchair. My friend phoned up and asked for an accessible room and was told was provided, was a let down to find a bath/shower which she struggled to get into due to mobility. Our room was lovely and clean, the only problem was it was extremely warm in the night even without the radiator on.
The spa was clean and very nice, again the only let down was the very steep ‘disabled access slope’ down to the facility. But the treatments were great and staff were very friendly and helpful.
The gym was great and a good range of equipment.
We had a lovely stay and the staff, food and service was great but the only let down was the disabled access.

Beautiful room with lovely view.
Very clean.
Writing 'happy birthday' on the mirror for me was a nice touch.
Spa experience and afternoon tea was lovely.
My only criticism was the service during evening meal. 22 mins from being seated to asking what we wanted to drink seemed lengthy. Food was great when it came. Then once we'd finished a 41 min wait without drinks and with dirty plates still on table before anyone came back to us. Restaurant wasn't unusually busy and there were plenty of staff on so the long waits seemed unnecessary.
Other than that a lovely stay.

Fantastic overnight Spa break. From arrival, nothing was too much for the staff to help with. We arrived an hour early and were told our room was ready. We were given a double room having requested a twin room. When we rang down to Reception this was quickly rectified and the Receptionist helped us move to our fantastic twin room with 2 double beds, a bath and separate shower. The spa area was very clean and the treatments were very good. The evening meal included in our package was superb, we both chose a delicious rib eye steak which was cooked to perfection. At breakfast, the staff could not be more attentive. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable and relaxing. We will be returning.

I have previously visited this Mercure Blackburn Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa to use the spa facilities with my daughter on 2 occasions and more recently with my husband in December 2024. The staff have always been welcoming and it is a lovely idyllic location so my husband and I decided to book an over night stay last weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

Imagine our delight when expecting to be booked into one of their lovely looking hotel rooms, we were booked into one of their exclusive, spacious courtyard rooms instead. Super!!!

The restaurant is very spacious and accommodated us nicely for our evening meal and again for breakfast despite how popular the hotel was for the weekend. Our meal was generous and tasty and there was a good selection of continental, cooked breakfast and juices the following morning.

The bar area is very comfortable with beautiful high backed armchairs which gives it modern relaxing feel.

Each contact with staff members whether receptionists, spa facility hosts, restaurant or bar staff was very pleasant as everyone approached us with a smile and showed that they really wanted to help.

We are looking forwards to our next visit there.

This is a very impressive 16 cent. building. The staff were excellent and could not do too much for us. Special mention to Aziz for his help, thank you.

Some rooms are very far awsy from reception. And cold in winter. We would have spent more time in the bar but it was sooo cold.

Room was clean and spacious. Staff were so attentive, special thanks to Sam, Sara, Aziz and Amy. Seems unfair to only list names we can remember all staff were helpful and courteous. The menus offered were extensive and food was delicious. When needed meals were adjusted to our pallete.

Really the hotel deserves a four star review but we've given five because of the excellent service and welcoming attitude of the staff. In particular Becky on Reception and Aziz in the bar and at breakfast went out of their way to be extremely helpful. We (six friends) visit this hotel every year for a swim, dinner, overnight stay and breakfast. It is excellent value, comfortable, clean and well facilitated .

Away from the bar and restaurant areas the hotel and room decor is a bit tired and shabby in places and in need of freshening up. Our room hadn't been cleaned very well (dusty surfaces and smudges on the mirror)
Of note the gym is very well equipped with free weights and machines.
We stayed for one night, our evening meal was excellent with good quality food and the staff were friendly, welcoming and approachable.

Enjoyed the bar experience in the Cameo area. Lovely decor and nice atmosphere. Friendly and welcoming bar staff offered us table service as well. Young man called Henry was very helpful with the wine choice and looked after us making us feel very welcome.

Have over the years used the hotel many times but this time very disappointing. The radiator was broken in the room and they brought a plug in heater which took ages to warm the room up . I was surprised to be charged 10 pounds to use the pool most 4 star hotels with the pool facility don't charge . I was with my 9 year old granddaughter and was told I must be in the pool with her as this was hotel policy . This policy is obviously not enforced as there were children in the pool and their adults were not even in the pool area let alone in the pool. I must say we had no problems with the staff and the food at lunch and the evening meal were good and value for money
Bit of a pedantic thing but the answerphone
with the options on doest even pronounce the hotels name correctly. .
As a resident of Clayton le moors I hope things improve .

Special mention to Amanda who always looks after us and goes that extra special mile and is very helpful. And the restaurant manager Azis who is super friendly x
