We stayed for one night in the Courtyard rooms. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, from checking in at reception through to dinner. The drinks were reasonably priced with a decent wine menu. We had purchased a dinner voucher so received £60 credit towards our meal. We had a steak and the lancashire hotpot, with a diet coke and a small glass of red wine - it cost us around £20 additionally but the food was beautiful and well worth it. Breakfast the next morning was well cooked and fresh, so no complaints there either. Staff were friendly and on the ball on both occasions. The room was clean but slightly dated, it would have benefitted from a fresh lick of paint and some minor cosmetic updating i.e ceiling was peeling, some tiles were cracked. The bathroom was small but functional. The hairdryer needed replacing as it sounded like it was about to blow up when in use! Our main issue was the temperature; the room was extremely hot, despite all the radiators being off and the windows open. We did phone through to reception to query this as we couldn’t find a thermostat anywhere, the desk lady kindly offered us a different room but it was already quite late by this point so we declined and made do with open windows for the night. Overall, we would probably stay again if in the area.

Staff were lovely and attentive, they ensured we knew where to go for the Spa, sat us down to have afternoon tea.
They included sandwiches, dainty cakes and scones.
Offered us fruit juices and a coffee each.
Then gave us a fluffy robe, slippers and towels
The pool and lounger area was clean and tidy.
Separate steam and sauna area was so pretty.

The only disappointment was the pool was quite cold and the jacuzzi is open in the pool so it was as cold, we couldn't relax in there and got out quite quickly.

Other women there commented the same and then they didn't return to the pool or jacuzzi. It's ok if you prefer to do laps up and down though my

Good food, good staff and we got a free upgrade on our room. Smaller rooms are not the best but executive and superior rooms are good.

For someone who stays at the Dunkenhalgh on a regular basis, the treatment and service the staff provide is as good as it gets especially from Mia and Chloe behind the bar they extremely kind, helpful and go the extra mile

Stayed with my partner for the evening, from booking with Emily in Reservations, to the lovely food served and exceptional service throughout our stay. The room was great, with large comfy bed. Would definitely recommend this Hotel to others.

This was a very special and also spectacular stay. We always wanted to stay in such a hotel. It is absolutely amazing to be able to sleep in a building like this! We stayed in one of their suites - The DeLancy Suite - and it was very very nice! We liked the layout, the size and also the comfy furniture. Of course you need to remember in what kind of house you are, so e.g. the windows were not soundproof. But it was not loud outside so no problem at all. The stuff was very friendly and we especially want to thank the guy working at the bar who managed to add a shamrock in the foam of the Guinness. That was very impressive!
We also really enjoyed the pool and sauna area. It is really big and has very good opening times. It was good to be able to use it early in the morning and late in the evening.
Keep in mind that it is an old house and for a lot of the rooms you will have to take some stairs. The hotel is very close to the motorway and at some points you can hear it.

We stayed here because it was a haunted hotel with spa and a good price for a 4* hotel, Arica, was very helpful, attentive and knowledgeable of the history of the hotel itself, an employee that you find very few and far between! The maid staff were very good at topping up condiments and making sure our room was lovely for when we came back from visiting your beautiful surrounding locations. Overall good services except there was a large event which wasn’t staffed appropriately for causing us slight disappointment at the buffet breakfast. After we mentioned this to the manager he seemed to bring it up jokingly throughout the whole stay.

My husband and I got married here in 2016, and for our 9th anniversary we decided to come and spend the night to relive how it all began.
The hotel knew this was the reason for our return and added several nice touches as a result. They upgraded our booking to include the spa facilities, left a message on our mirror, decorated our bed with towel-swans and petals, and even decorated our table for the evening meal.
The room was large and comfortable (the bed on the firm side but that wasn't a problem for us) and the evening meal was good. The starters are absolutely enormous, however, so we cancelled the desserts as we simply had no room for them.
Breakfast was buffet style and found it all a little bland, with the scrambled eggs in particular being like a soup. I'm not entirely convinced I wasn't coming down with something, though, so the lack of taste may have been down to that.
The used the pool, various steam and sauna rooms, and found them all clean and uncrowded.
All in all we had a wonderful stay and very much enjoyed our walk down memory lane. We've visited off and on over the years and will no doubt be back again in the future.
Thanks to everyone who made our stay that little bit extra special.

Lovely location and fab grounds too. My husband and I went for a spa and treatment day. Hubby sang Stacey's praises after his body brush and I, can't sing Sarah C's praise enough for my body brush treatment. Both ladies were lovely and friendly and both made sure we had a great experience 10 out of 10 to both of them.
The spa has a heated swimming pool with a jacuzzi, and a range of saunas and steam rooms, each with a different therapeutic purpose, eg aromatherapy steam room, cant remember the others but they were great. Smashing powerful cold shower if you prefer instead of hot.

Lovely old hotel, the rooms was a bit tired but nice clean - beds were very comfortable. The staff were also so welcoming and friendly.
It's not very good for people with disabilities as there is no lift. They guy at reception was helpful and got us a ground floor room which was nice.
The restaurant food that we had for our evening meal was amazing but breakfast wasn't up to much.
nice stay all in all

I went here with my sister and stayed overnight. We had a lovely twin bedded room. The beds were very comfortable. The evening meal was really nice (the only thing that spoilt it was the music being played- not conducive to having a nice relaxing evening meal) The breakfast could not be faulted it was excellent. Service good in all quarters from reception to leaving.

Excellent service by all staff we met, including check in/out, we dined in Cameo restaurant for dinner & breakfast & I also received a lovely relaxing spa treatment. Special mention to Anne & Kieran who were welcoming & helpful. Easy to get to as near to M65. Room spotless & bed very comfortable . Tea/coffee available in room & much appreciated. We enjoyed our stay at Dunkenhalgh hotel, with a few little criticisms for check ins and check out. When we checked in we were not prompted to check-in our car registration and not asked for a card to cover bar bills. These problems were solved by us coming down to reception. Our room was lovely in the executive wing, the room was very airy and plenty of storage space for clothes. All our meals in the restaurant were very good, tasty and well presented. All the staff were very busy but we never felt like we were overlooked. Chloe in the restaurant was very good and looked after us both evening meals. We had a run out mid stay, going to Morecombe bay, (tide was out) so miles of beach to see. Then we stopped at Carnforth station. This was wonderful as the film "brief encounter" was filmed there, so the refreshment room and the heritage exhibition were great to wander around.
Check-out was a little confusing as Chilti was on her own at a very busy time and was not sure about the bill on leaving but everything was sorted out by the time we got home.

The building and original features are impressive. You can appreciate the atmosphere and historical feel it gives. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food was fair, nothing special but not bad at all. The hotel itself is not particularly clean a bit grubby and the maintenance is poor. With I little more care and attention this hotel has the potential to be much more….. wipe the dirty hand marks off the doors, vacuum the floors and fix the loose taps and it will make such a difference…Pretty good gym.

Lovely hotel, finding our room was an issue as the hotel is sprawling. The food in restaurant was delicious! Staff in the restaurant so helpful and attentive (Chloe & Danielle). Lovely bar for after dinner drinks.

This was a return visit to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary at the venue we got married in.
From the point of booking all the way through to leaving we were well looked after on the two nights we stayed.

Sarah Jefferson was superb when I made contact to book, she gave me all the options available and even managed to organise a room upgrade for us.

Aziz at Breakfast is an unsung hero, he is such a welcoming face and starts the day off so well, he also ensures you receive the best service and he always arranged for a little treat for my wife and I when we returned to our room later in the day . My wife has food intolerances and he ensured that these were catered for and that there was plenty of options still available. This was also the case on the first night when we had a three course meal in the restaurant, the staff ensured we had all the relevant information and that the meal was in line with the food intolerances.

We visited the Spa and had a massage which was very enjoyable and would recommend to everyone, we used the facilities afterwards which again are a must when staying.

Finally Edwin on the final morning at breakfast was simply magnificent she went out of her way to ensure that certain breakfast products were available for my wife which allowed my wife to have an enjoyable breakfast.

The hotel is a gorgeous looking hotel and there could be a little bit of cosmetic work that needs doing inside just to ensure it doesn’t look tired.

However the staff in the hotel from Reservations, Reception, Behind the Bar, or at Breakfast and Tea are really superb and make this hotel a very special place to return to.
