I was lucky enough to be the only person that seemed to be aware that the Abingdon Museum roof was open for the morning of the Extravaganza (usually shut all winter).
The Choose Abingdon Partnership commissioned Hidden Britain to conduct a study of tourism in Abingdon. This aimed to provide key understanding and a solid evidence base for future economic and tourism derived planning and decision making over the next 3 years. The findings of the survey were presented to the public at the Choose Abingdon AGM last week.
As the days shorten and the nights creep in it must mean that Halloween is nearly upon us... Whilst keeping a constant lookout for ghoulies and ghosties and long leggedy beasties, why not also consider some of the events taking place in the Abingdon area over this period?

The once-loved pub shut its doors nearly two years ago and the new tenant, Dushan Salwathura (who runs The Broad Face) plans to bring the building back to it's old popularity and prominence as the gateway to Abingdon.
The Crown and Thistle Hotel on Bridge St., Abingdon-on-Thames has recently been bought by Oakman Inns and Restaurants, who also own the Akeman in Tring, the Old Post Office in Wallingford, the Red Lion in Water End, the Kings Arms in Berkhamsted, and the Blue Boar in Witney.
Twelve locks along the River Thames will benefit from investment over the winter period (September to March), with the biggest projects being undertaken at Iffley, Abingdon and Old Windsor locks, where a total of £1.3 million will be spent replacing lock gates and repairing and reinforcing the lock chambers.
