Atmosphere was lovely & the staff were fantastic however we weren’t totally impressed with the carvery.. was quoted a cheaper price for meat free than what was charged. Carrots werent cook enough & parsnips were overcooked! Although the potatoes are gravy were super id say the food is 50/50

We went for dinner here which was our first time for their candle and live music night. We were so pleasantly surprised by everything! we’ve been in Taunton for 5 years now and can’t believe we have never been here before but this is for sure going to be a go to spot now!

The staff were super friendly overall and the two girls that served us were very quick at taking drinks etc and were always just so lovely and friendly. The food was incredible and I said to my husband that could possibly be one of the juiciest and tastiest steaks I’ve ever had. There was a lovely outdoor area with a bouncy castle in a lovely location so would be great for families. Also the little touch of having somewhere to purchase dog treats is a lovely touch. The only sad thing was we had to leave early and couldn’t stay for dessert because it was just way too hot (obviously this isn’t their fault as there is a heatwave) potentially some fans to borrow for silly people like me who forget theirs might to an extra nice touch to entice some people to stay longer and purchase more.

But overall great staff, lovely views/location and most importantly tasty food, we will be coming back again ☺️

Went to the Alford for the Sunday carvery, was greeted by a young lady who was very welcoming and had a smile on her face, the place wasn’t crowded which was nice because my partner and I could actually have a conversion, we had gotten our drinks within 5 minutes of being there so service was great, unfortunately where out of Pepsi so was given a glass of Coke, it didn’t bother me until the bottle had come out and didn’t even fill half of a pint glass so had to order 2x bottles but it was no issue. We had went to get the carvery and when I asked for the turkey I was told that they wouldn’t recommended it as it’s been sitting there all day and it very dry, which is understandable if it’s been there all day however threw me off a bit when a staff member tells you to avoid certain foods there.
We ended up getting the beef in the end which was quite nice and quite a big bit. However the rest of the carvery was quite disappointing, the cauliflower cheese did not taste like cheese at all, the broccoli was very crunchy and not soft, parsnips were actually really nice and so were the carrots. But didn’t seem to have much flavour, and the roast potatoes tastes like they had been reheated 4 times over, which I understand can happen if it’s later on in the day but it tasted cold in the middle and again had no flavour, the gravy was very watery so had to be careful it didn’t slide of the plate. The plates could also be a little bigger especially for those who have a bigger appetite due to the Yorkshire pudding and meat taking up most of the plate, it was quite difficult to eat without making a mess. OVERALL service was very good and the price was okay but there are places that do a better quality carvery for the same price or even cheaper. The pub itself was vert welcoming, very tidy and had a good atmosphere so cannot knock it much.

Been here twice in the last few weeks, once for an all you can eat breakfast, which I have to say was bloody excellent, very good selection of fried food and a decent selection of pastries and fruit, would definitely recommend the breakfast. The second time was for the carvery, which I have to say I was very disappointed with, potatoes were under cooked as was most of the veg. Meat was decent, I had beef and pork which were both OK, there was NO crackling left, even tho they had 1 and a half joints still under the heating lamp, neither of which had any crackling on, surely the people not having pork should not be allowed crackling in my eyes anyway. The service was very poor, on 2 or 3 separate occasions the staff were behind the bar laughing whilst on their phones, all this whilst ours plates were on the table festering and begging to be collected, it took over 30 minutes after we had finished eating for the plates to be cleared away, and then another 10 minutes for them to ask if we would like to see the pudding menu. The wrong menus were given to us and when the correct ones were delivered and we had decided what to have we were the informed that there was no Fish and chips which 3 people had decided to have, and were then disappointed to be told there was no fish. We were also given the wrong kids menus, and having an autistic grandchild being told that the cheese burger wasn't available today when its on the menu we were given wasnt great. Pudding eventually were served and were good. I personally think there are better carvery/roasts in the area, so probably won't return for the carvery. Drinks came out and were wrong, and we were charged for an extra pepsi. Also ordered an extra kids pizza and chips that came out and was luke warm at best. Another kids pizza and chips was ordered for our autistic grandson but without chips as he won't eat them, the pizza arrived and came with chips, luckily we removed the chips before he'd seem them as he would of had a meltdown if he'd seen them on his plate.

I would definitely recommend the breakfast here, but certainly not the carvery.

Nice oldie atmosphere, good inner decor. It was a quiet night but the room was reasonably sized. Would be good for a family or group get together.

The location is local to us. When we visited we was nearly the first customer's to arrive so place was calm and quiet. We throughly enjoyed our meals and excellent portion size for what you pay for. Our table server Faith went above and beyond to make our afternoon a pleasurable visit. Thank you Faith.

Had we known they had a wedding we would never have booked. The food was average for a pub but having to wait in a cold drafty room for almost 2 hours for our food was disappointing. Even the free drinks didn't help. We were disappointed when we asked how long desserts would take, we were told we couldn't have any.
We had heard good things about this pub. All I can say is the staff were nice.

Run out of food, all you can eat buffet wings and things. Staff were friendly. Not sure I'd waste my money going again.

My wife and I had dinner...she had the pate and Mediterranean tart, I had the garlic mushrooms and pie of the day. Staff were friendly and helpful overall. Our 2 drinks were not available unfortunately...Earl Grey tea and no beer at all! The pate was nice and generous portion; the mushrooms were a bit gloopy and not very well presented. My wife enjoyed the tart and the steak and Guinness pie was quite nice, although the volume of meat was far too much...they could have made 2 pies with this! Overall, not bad and we'll probably come back to try the carvery in future.

Lovely country pub serving good food in a nice location. Our server Keeleigh was very friendly and attentive. The food was tasty and the portions are generous. They even have a dog-wash in the car park for cleaning off muddy pups. Recommended.
