I have been to Oake Manor every time I visit England, due to in-laws close by, and this restaurant is the best in the area. The staff are always friendly and helpful, they have a good bar and comfortable seating while you wait for your table to be ready. I appreciate the time to review the menu and the wait staff taking our order before being seated on several occasions. The meals are always good with large portions, the side vegetable portions, we had 3, are so large it was too much for a group of 6, one would have been enough. We went during August when they had a great 2 for 1 deal for dinner. They have a nice wine selection and being from wine country in California we were not disappointed. They have a vegetarian selection which one person in our party ordered and she said it was lovely! Its rare for a restaurant to get the appetizer and the entrée equally good and this restaurant does not disappoint. We planned ahead the second time we went to dinner in 10 days and saved room for dessert, again, it was spot on! We will be back!

This was the first time we had been here for Sunday Lunch. We were eight of us and were there for the second time in a fortnight. The first course was not served very quickly, but when it arrived was excellent. When we were called to the Carvery servery there was just a few minutes wait. All the food was hot and served by the Chefs very well indeed. Only one criticism that there was a que from each end, what a lovely idea, however when we got to the middle the two ques combined and we found ourselves crossing each other's paths to get the gravy, cauliflower and parsnips. In fact one customer got upset with me. The cauliflower cheese was too runny with hardly any sauce.

Have ben here several times for lunch. The food is good and so is the service. You can feel really relaxed here and you dont need to be a member or golfer. Nice views too.

I would highly recommend this venue if you want a stress free wedding venue. Staff were excellent and well prepared. from the beginning of the planning they took care of all main arrangements and the meal was excellent. Excellent views for wedding photos and relaxed atmosphere.

We were guests of the Taunton Deane Moose Lodge for their Ladies Evening and were very impressed with the service, decor, and the outlook over the golf course. The meal was more than acceptable and the food hot.

All in all we were very impressed and would not hesitate to recommend the venue for any occasion.

What a lovely meal we had at Oake looking out over the beautifully maintained golf course. Food always of a high standard and very reasonably priced. The sweet trolley is a feast for your eyes and quite irresistible. Staff are lovely and well organized. Oake is in the beautiful Somerset countryside on the outskirts of Taunton and is well worth the short drive to get there.

I've just spent the evening at Oak Manor Golf Club having an end of season meal with our ladies skittle team. It was lovely, the food was hot and plentiful and very well presented. I must say I've eaten several times here and have never been disappointed.
Well done Oak Manor our saving up all the skittle season was well worth it tonight.

We have been to Oake Manor for Sunday lunch on several occasions. Generally, we enjoy it. However, on this occasion, I was a bit disappointed with it.

There is no doubt that it is popular and that it is advisable to book if you want a Sunday lunch here. It is very much a standard carvery, with a choice of meats, various vegetables, starters and a pudding (on a sweet trolley that gets dragged around the dining room) if you feel so inclined. It's busy and therefore can be a bit noisy, but you know that before you go. And despite the fact that they cater for large numbers, they are normally efficient and the young staff have always seemed pleasant and friendly enough.

But I have noticed previously, and especially on this visit, that the amount of meat you get depends very much on who is carving it. Today, the young man could not have cut the meat thinner if he had tried. He pratically shaved it off the joint, and then put just two wafers of beef on my plate. The turkey was marginally thicker, but the joint was quite a bit smaller to begin with. I pointedly asked for another slice of beef, and one was provided, but as it was equally thin it didn't add much to my plate! By contract the Yorkshire pudding was enormous and filled up half the plate, so that I had to balance my vegetables around it.

You can help yourself to veg, and there is a fair selection, but of course the plates are quite small - about 8 or 9 inches diameter - so you are limited to how much you can fit on. It really would be nicer to eat if you could lay your veg out, rather than have to pile them up or balance them round the edges of the plate. In fairness, I have yet to go to a carvery that DOES have decent sized plates.

The puddings are usually good - cheesecakes, flans, trifle, roulade etc - and they come with a choice of pouring cream or clotted cream. All very nice, but the cream has started to be rationed out rather meanly, I feel. Sometimes there isn't enough to moisten your pudding. You can ask for more, but they whizz the trolley away as soon as you have been served, so you have to actively seek out more cream if you want it. I really think they could afford to pour on a bit more than a dribble of double cream, or give you a bit more than half a spoon of clotted cream.

This is not to be greedy, despite what it may sound like. And I do appreciate that they have to limit portions somehow. But today it really felt as if they were being quite mean with their portions. Reminded me of the old joke "How did you find the meat?" - "Well, I turned over the potato and there it was".

The young staff, at least the ones that served us, were not as pleasant and friendly as on previous visits, and in fact seemed rather rushed and stressed today. Hate to sound like an old fuddy-duddy, but it would be far more appropriate, given the general age profile of their Sunday customers (mostly 40 plus) if they could call customers "Sir" and "Madam" rather than "Guys", and if some of the young women could wear longer skirts. (Girls, having a skirt so short that your apron is longer than it really hampers your movements. Take it from me, you'd be much more comfortable if you didn't have to keep tugging it down.)

So, a bit disappointing on this occasion. I'd be prepared to give them another go, but will probably wait a few months first. .

Decided to go for their Sunday carvery as in laws had praised it and we knew it was a fairly busy place so must be good right? Wrong. I was not that impressed. So busy there I felt like a wallet to them not a customer. Our table was in such a place people were queing around us for the carvery; very off putting when you're trying to eat. The food itself was quite bland, didn't look that fresh ( drying carrots), Yorkshire pudding was stale and dry, generally I could have done a better job at home. We didn't see what all the fuss is about. Nothing special, won't be going back.

Enjoy playing the excellent golf course several times every year, always followed up with a meal. The whole place is very efficiently run by skilled, friendly staff and the food well above average In spite of being competitively priced. Have never been disappointed.

We are regular customers over here. We love their Sunday Roast and yummy desserts. The place is always full on Sunday, but even that staff is always welcoming and happy to help.

We play here 2 or 3 times a year in their Mixed Open Competitions which always includes a two course meal and I have to say we have never been disappointed ! The Mint and Lamb pies are to die for ( and I am definitely not a pie person!) and the quality and quantity of both main courses and the desserts are excellent. Both the waiting and bar staff have always been friendly and very helpful. Would definitely recommend .

We usually enjoy our meal at the Golf Club at Oake Manor but this time was not so good....maybe because it was the Christmas lunch and the staff seemed to cater mostly for the larger groups and couples were neglected ! The Roast potatoes were awful....they seemed to have been warmed up and not very appetising. The Nut Roast was good but the vegetables were hard. We had to wait a long time between courses because the larger groups were being attended to first.... We would not do the Christmas lunch again as it did not come up to the standard of their normal roast dinners....

Ok have visited a few times now.
The grounds are beautiful but between that a dance floor and a bar that's about it. There's no real features to wonder over.

The feel of the location internally is likened to that of a rugby club or village hall it is very outdated and in need of refurbishment. But I can recommend the buffet and the service elsewhere is usually good.

They have got one thing right plenty of shows on all year round, now these are worth attending when it's dark and there's plenty of happy people perking up atmosphere, everything else can then be over looked.

First time I have had Lunch at a golf club, we had tried to have lunch at Weston super Mare golf club a year ago, and were told in a stuffy manner' it was only open to members', now the restaurant is open to 'non' members, I don't want to go there :-)

Ok, now to the Oake Manor, it was a very wet Sunday lunchtime, although a massive car park, it was packed (good sign), after dropping off my partner, I went and parked her car up (yes I am like Sir Walter Raliegh) ran through the car park, still got wet.

Arived in the restaurant, there was a table reserved for the party, it was my partners God daughters 21st, they couldn't have picked a nicer setting,

We all went for the carvery as far as I know, I had only the beef, as it looked scrummy, there was a selection of 3 or 4 kinds of veg, and some Ratatouille, the beef was probably the tenderest I have ever had at a carvery, could have done with a bit more of the meat, but that would have probably given the club bankrupsy problems, as the food is very good value for the money charged, overall I think it's great, the staff (even though it's a carvery) were great, came to get the orders for the sweets, and were patient when waiting for us to decide from the vast choice, I went for the Creme Brulee, never seen that at a carvery before, could have done with being colder, and the sugar top could have been crisped up more with the flame, overall a very tasty Brulee,, my partner had the 'Chocolate Cheesecake', as she couldn't finish it, I had to, it was tasty and a very generous portion, if there is a criticism to be made, the roast potatoes tasted like they were cooked the previous day or had been re heated, this is a shame, because everything else was so lovely, still going to give them 5 stars though, they deserved it, the potatoes might have been from an emergency stock, so all forgiven,as it was jam packed at the time I went up.Apparently, the overall bill was a pleasant surprise, as the guy who daughters birthday it was, was surprised.Great job done by all, reccomended highly.

We took a party of people (37) to Oake Manor today for lunch.
What a very pleasant experience. The coach was met by the manager and allowed to park outside the door. Plenty of staff behind the bar to get us served with drinks. Greeted by the waiter looking after us and shown to our tables which were set up in a private area. The carvery was exceptional as was the sweet trolley. Their attention to detail and very helpful attitude made this a very pleasant experience all round. Well done, in summary, it was great value for money, super quality with marvellous service

We visited this restaurant for a relatives 90th birthday. We have to say that from our initial enquiry to the finish nothing was too much trouble. The location is very pleasant with a large bar area and even larger restaurant with lovely large windows to look out over the course. The young staff are so friendly and efficient and the food very good value for money. If you are looking for a venue for a celebration party then look no further. We would be very happy to return again when re-visting Taunton.

We often eat here and love the reasonably priced carvery special evenings. We have had lunch here too, food is ok but if there are other parties being held at lunch time, there doesn't seem to be any increase in the amount of staff and the service is often poor and strained. We went here with friends on a Sunday afternoon for a special celebration and ordered cream teas all round, only to be told by a very embarrassed young member of staff, that they were out of clotted cream. We asked to speak to a senior member of staff and complained. The duty manager appeared totally unconcerned and did not offer an explanation or apology. The view however is stunning and does make up for some of the shortfalls.

We went here for my birthday, and what a lovely day this was.The staff were very friendly and worked very hard. The restaurant was fully booked and very busy, but the staff never kept you waiting for anything. The food was exceptional,we all had the three course meal and it was excellent value for money,we paid £14.95 which included tea and coffee. The other thing i like about oake manor is the setting, which is even better when the sun is shinning and you can sit outside.I would advise you book a table in advance.

Had lunch at Oake Manor Golf Club today.

This is essentially a golf club, but one which has diversified and become much more than just a golf club - it is a venue that holds events (tribute nights, live bands), can stage weddings and provides a hugely popular Sunday carvery, so popular that booking is advised. The restaurant is in the golf clubhouse, nicely set in the middle of the golf course, with ample car parking.

You are shown to your table , given a menu and asked if you would like any drinks. If you want a starter, you choose this and it is brought to your table. If not, when you are ready, you go up to the carvery. Meat (choice today was beef, pork or turkey) is carved for you, and you are given a Yorkshire pudding and stuffing (if you want it), then you help yourself to all the vegetables.

Everything is nice and hot, and there's a good selection. Today, along with roast potatoes, we had carrots, spring greens, broccoli and ratatouille. Gravy, cranberry and horseradish sauces are also provided. You can take as much or as little as you like.

The only criticism I would make is that the plates are quite small, and they could do with providing some bigger ones - not to pile more food on, but so you could spread out what you are eating and actually see it all! The Yorkshire pudding that I was given was huge, covered half the plate; so the veg had to balance round it and it made eating a bit difficult.

The meat was lovely, very tender and tasty, and everything else was fine. Perhaps the veg were slightly overcooked, but no so much that they spoiled the meal. It is, after all, what it is - a popular carvery which serves something like 300 hungry diners every Sunday.

They also have a great sweet trolley, which is brought to your table so you can make your choice from a good selection of cold puddings - trifle, roulade, panna cotta, various pies and flans, all served with clotted or double cream. I had a trifle, served in a tall sundae glass, and it was great; my partner had the apple and treacle flan with clotted cream, which he reported on most favourably.

We were offered tea or coffee, but declined. A jug of water is provided on every table, and I had some freshly sqeezed orange juice as well.

The venue, while large, is pleasant, with tables well spread out in two big, bright rooms. Although you are reasonably close to other people, it's not at all intrusive and you do not feel squashed in. The overwhelmingly young waiting staff are all attentive and polite and service is efficient. There is a small bar and large reception area next door to the dining room - one opens off the other - where you can have an after or pre lunch drink (space permitting).

It does cater for quite large groups, and several were in today for family parties or birthdays, so it is not somewhere for a quiet and intimate lunch. But it is cheerful and friendly, and knowing how popular it is, you should expect it to be busy. However busy it is, it seems well managed, and you are not kept waiting for ages to order food or for dirty plates to be cleared.

This venue does offer very good value. Two courses are £11.95, or you can have three courses for £14.95. Drinks are extra.

If you want a Sunday carvery, this is the place to go. Not fancy food maybe, but good honest food with efficient service.

Recently played with friends and very enjoyable. Good course layout, some interesting holes with lots of water to contend with. Condition of the course was ok for early in the year. Friendly guy in pro shop and overall good value for money.

Food level is just OK. Nearby local hidden pub serves far better food. All waiter/waitress needs proper training for them to wear the costume what they wear.
