Back to my Shrewsbury blog after a relaxing weekend at home where the computer didn't go on once. Well, OK, I did a teensy bit of eBaying. Got a nice pair of New Balance trainers; old school, just my cup of tea and half the price of my daughter's shoes. Darn that Lelley Kellies advert.
Not long till Halloween then Bonfire Night in Shrewsbury. But the big date in my diary is this Friday, when I'm going to London for the UFC Fan Expo. Taking the Wrexham & Shropshire train down of course, so I will miss the delights of Birmingham New Street and the people whose goal in life is to stand in the middle of escalators and make me miss my connection. A straight run from Shrewsbury to Marylebone, then the tube to Earl's Court.
The Expo should be a great day out... if you're a fan of Mixed Martial Arts. Some of the biggest names in MMA will be there, the likes of Wanderlei Silva and Randy Couture. Can't wait. Throw in the ring girl Arianny Celeste and you've got Christmas!
But I can't blog purely about MMA, despite its huge growth across the globe and indeed in Shropshire. It's not for everyone, just like any sport, I guess. I'm not a big footie man, so I can't say much about our national sport. I do know Shrewsbury Town are doing well this season though. If you're a big fan and like passing across your point of view, I will be looking for a Shrewsbury Town blogger, someone who can review the games with a bit of insight, humour and clean language. If that's you, drop me a line!
Let's get back to the seasonal party / Christmas talk. It's not long now till holiness and hangovers are upon us. Have you thought about what you're going to buy your loved ones? The internet accounts for a huge percentage of Christmas shopping spend (excuse the vague statistic) but don't forget there are great bargains to be found right here on the High Street. Walk into your local shops, say hello to the owner, have a browse. This is their chance to shine and demonstrate why the information super highway isn't the be-all and end-all. I appreciate I started this blog talking about eBay but everything in moderation...! You can't really build up a relationship with your computer. Well, at least I hope not.
I need your help at the moment, if you don't mind. One of my super duper driving instructors has retired - enjoy retirement, Colin Baily, thoroughly deserved! - and I'm looking to replace them, preferably with a female driving instructor. Do you know a good one? If so, please let me know.
Finally, a big 'well done' to Bob and Mike at BM Blinds, who have flown past the 50 Testimonials mark! 50 people have kindly taken the time to register on thebestof Shrewsbury website and say why they chose BM Blinds. Word of Mouth is the best form of advertising after all and it's really helping the local business guys and gals in town.
