A record-breaking 1,500 children met Santa Claus in his grotto at caravan dealership Salop Leisure in Shrewsbury in the run up to Christmas.

The grotto, which was part of Salop Leisure’s Winter Wonderland programme of Christmas events, was an outstanding success, smashing the previous record of 1,200 visits.

The company was rewarded for transforming its showroom for Christmas as thousands of people were attracted by events, which included the Shropshire Handmade and Vintage Christmas Fair, the Salop Santa Dash and a skating rink at Love2Stay resort.

The new skating rink proved very popular and was fully booked during the week leading up to Christmas.

Christmas tree sales at Love Plants, Salop Leisure’s specialists plants centre, also reached record levels as manager Tim Robinson reported a 30 per cent increase. The success follows on from a very busy year, with 2,000 extra loyalty customers signed up.

“It has been a very merry Christmas for Salop Leisure and I would like to thank the local community for the outstanding support we have received not just during December but throughout the year,” said Ed Glover, Salop Leisure’s marketing manager.

“Our Christmas programme has been such a success that it will be repeated next December with a few new additions and the Salop Santa Dash will be expanded.”
