Really high quality, authentic experience at Acton Scott, which we'd heard so much about. All the activities were appropriate and well delivered, with the in-character staff both knowledgeable and friendly. The scenery provides the perfect backdrop for timeless reenactment of historic pastimes, which were also fun to get up close to and try first hand. Cafe is superb and would be great to visit again even without rentering the farm. Don't forget to call in at hatton farm just up the road for fresh organic milk from their vending machine too!

Sorry for the delay in this comment but haven’t had a chance since we returned home from our weeks break in Shropshire, but still feel so impelled and moved to do so !!! We visited here at the start of May on my 56th birthday and had SUCH a perfect day !!! 😊 EVERY member of staff couldn’t have been any more helpful, informative, and friendly ♥️🫶🏼. I also shed a happy tear of nostalgia as the barns, buildings, and shepherds huts ( used to have a few camps in some of those back in the day ! 😉) reminded me of my youth spent growing up in a rural hamlet in Buckinghamshire and many happy carefree days surrounded by such things. The restaurant in the old school house was incredible !!! The home made Fidget Pie 🥧 was delicious 😋 and we also took extra slices of the Rhubarb cake and the Coffee and Walnut cake back home with us too as also SO delicious 😋 !!!
All in all, a wonderful experience and you certainly deserve to have lots of visitors !!!
We will be back again and bringing some friends with us next time too !!! 😁

We spent a lovely few hours here at Acton Scott. We were given a warm welcome and joined the free tour of the farm which was very informative. The Shires were lovely and it was great to see them being put to good use by moving large wheels about. However, we did feel that it was a real shame about the lack of other livestock at the farm, and apart from the stable man, house wife and garden man, there were no other people to talk to the day we went so we didn’t really get a feel for any of the dairy or livestock side of the farm, or the machinery, smithing or woodwork. There was also only one demonstration of harnessing when we went which sadly we didn’t get to see as we left before this. A few more demonstrations would have been nice. I do however appreciate the farm is ran by volunteers so it’s a case of who is there the day you go. Shame Shropshire Council for no longer supporting it. However, the cafe is a must visit when you go, the cakes are gorgeous and well worth the price. Overall, I would return to Acton Scott on another sunny day as for a place to spend a few hours exploring in the sun it is perfect. I would love to see it restored back to how it was when I visited as a child. A bustling working farm full of life stories.

A great place to visit with family. We heard a very interesting talk on shire horses, saw some spinning visited the herb garden and loved seeing the calves. The cafe lunch was good. Even better when all the old machinery, butter making, barrel making etc it back up and running as it used to be.

Amazing Acton!
Revisited after 30 years, this time with grandchildren, not children. They loved it, had a picnic, listened to shire horse info & asked questions, planted 2 types of beans in an eco friendly compostable container (paper!) ate a fresh radish, played hopscotch, read about farming of yesteryear & generally we all had a fabulous 3 hours.

This is a great day out. Staff are friendly, informative, and inspirational. If you have an interest in history, rural matters and/or Shropshire, I would recommend a visit. There’s also a cafe selling fabulous bakes!

We visited the farm in early May with our two grandchildren and son and daughter in law and had an absolutely perfect day. All 3 generations were enthralled by the farm and activities available. As it was our first visit we decided to go with a guide and my goodness me what a delight Jo was. She managed to bring to life the workings of the farm engaging our grandchildren for the whole tour which is no mean feat! Her enthusiasm and sense of humour were just perfect. We all had lunch in the Victorian school room and no one was disappointed with their choices and all proved to be excellent value and extremely tasty. A fantastic day out and one not to be missed.

We had a great time visiting Acton Scott. It was really interesting seeing how farming and life was. When we went, there was a demonstration of sheep shearing and working the shire horses. The scenery around the farm is stunning. Paths are well made up. The farm yard is cobbled. So if you are not confident on your feet, then you will need to take care.

Had a really lovely few hours at Acton Scott today. I took an older lady that I care for who has a farming background. She knew a lot of the implements and loved the shire horses.
We had a great lunch outside the cafe. My friend thoroughly enjoyed it.

Very good day out, and it was great to see how farming life was. I must admit to see the magnificent shires working in the fields and being harnessed was a real treat. Tbh would have given a 4 star but worth the 5 stars just for shires, very authentic.

11/05/2025. Absolutely brilliant day out with the grandchildren. Fascinating step back in time. Special thanks the farmers wife in the farmhouse, who explained every detail of the farmhouse daily life, to our two grandchildren, who were entranced.!
It was very quiet, we were expecting crowds, but not many people so very tranquil. Lovely cafe with home made cakes, meals.
It’s only just reopened at the farm, after being closed for four years, so maybe word hasn’t got round yet!
We stayed four hours, plenty of parking, and not too much walking for creaky old knees.!
Your missing a treat with your kids if your looking for an old fashioned countryside day out, without a screen in their hands.
All run by volunteers, so come on everyone, give them some support and visit! It’s brilliant!

So glad to see this place up and running again! I decided to bring my partner along to see a place that means a lot to me and he loved it! The actors are amazing and were happy to stop and chat, the ladies in the spinning room and the cottage were so informative and lovely, the shire horses were grand as always and the calves were adorable! Can't wait to visit again sometime! <3

Went on a tour as part of the pre-opening. Wonderful location (although a sign at the entrance is needed - everyone we spoke to got lost and pastr the entrance!). Wonderful historic farm. The volunteers, especially the young curly headed guy and the woman playing the 'Squires wife' were both excellemt and very knowledgeable. Can't wait to return when the farm is back to full capacity!

Our second visit to the farm (August 2019) and it was just as good as our previous visit. If your into farming history or even just like farms and farm animals, Acton Scott is the place to go. Watching the heavy horses doing what they do best is a wonderful sight but you're reminded that Shire horses are now more endangered than Pandas. The only downside to this visit was that many of the displays that we had seen in our previous visit weren't there and the hand milking of the cows, which I had the privilege to take part in and had enjoyed greatly last time, had been stopped some time ago. All this said and done, I would definitely recommend this place and would definitely go again.

This was outstanding. Our guide, Rob, was so interesting and made sure that people at the back or slow to catch up heard everything.

we spent a morning at the farm and very much enjoyed the whole experience. There is a lot to see and do for all ages and the staff are extremely knowledgable and approachable. It still has a proper farm feel about the place and not too theme parked. We spent a few hours remembering how we used to use some of the old farm equipment, a few years ago now! It is also a great place for families.
