My husband & I stayed here for 1 night recently - we booked it last minute (the actual morning of travel!) and got a double room at the bargain price of just over £37 for room only. Upon arrival we had the option of adding full breakfast at £10 for 2 which was a great price. An added bonus was the free parking (we were lucky enough to get a space in the small hotel car park as we arrived after lunch). The room was on the top floor overlooking the bus station - it was very clean & tidy with a comfortable double bed, flat screen interactive tv and spotless refurbished bathroom. No noise at all at night. Staff were very polite and helpful both on reception and in the dining room. Breakfast was the usual continental, cereal etc. and excellent hot choice. We chose this hotel for the price as we wanted a spur-of-the moment break. Although Preston is tired & worn in places we nonetheless enjoyed our day and night out - as a middle aged couple we found several bars/pubs within walking distance to suit and ate in a lovely italian called Angelo's hidden down a side street off Church Street. I understand Preston is awaiting a much needed facelift in the town centre but like Bradford sadly backers and investment has fallen through. After leaving the hotel after a very prompt & efficient check-out we found Preston Marina, a pleasant surprise, even in the rain, and riding around the area there are quite a few new developments/out of town shops so it just seems that the centre has been neglected in places. I would return here again, not necessarily for the night life or shops, but for it's great price and location to visit surrounding Lancashire - as hotels go it does what it says on the tin!

I have stayed here often overnight on Fridways, having to work on Saturday in Preston.

The hotel is reasonably well located. The town centre is about ten minutes walk away though there are not many restaurants nearby, though the Chinese is perfectly acceptable, though it works on a cash only basis!

The car park is, as other reviewers have mentioned, small so it's a good idea to arrive early if you can and leave the car as there may not be a space available when you get back.

Wifi costs £5 but is free for Priority Club members. Do ask for a room with a good signal if you need this as not all rooms recieve it. The internal layout is strange, reception is on the first floor and the lift does not work from the ground floor after 10 p.m. Indeed, entry late at night can only be had by producing your room key and the card that. Ame with it - worth remembering if you are planning a night on the town I guess.

All the rooms we have stayed in have been acceptable or better, with the last one having the benefit of a newly refurbished bathroom. The beds have always been comfortable and house keeping is to a good standard.

I haven't eaten there in the evening but prices look reasonable. Sadly the same can't be said of the prices in the bar where a mediocre standard glass of wine will set you back £5.10. The breakfast service and the food provided are good, though later in the morning things can get a bit rushed and the eggs tired.

The staff, in the restaurant and generally, though reduced in number over the years I have been going there are friendly and helpful.

Overall, this is a good economical choice, better than the Travel Lodge where I stayed when I first went to Preston.

Staff great, food OK, decor really needs attention - apart from bar area which looks good. Only 1 lift was working and that was so slow I took the stairs after the long wait. I was on the 7th floor and still beat the lift speed going up and down!
Overall, not too bad but just needs that bit of polish.

I appreciated the free wifi for Priority club card holders. The restaurant is fast and friendly. service is attentive. There is a gym on the top floow with a view of the town but there are four bikes and no treadmills whcih I was very disappointed about. The rooms are pretty avearge for a holiday inn - geeting increasingly basic as the years go by. I checked out early and the night porter charged me incorrectly. I was then charged more directly on to my card some ten days later when they put right the mistake but nobody informed me about this. I would stay here again given what is available in Preston.

Although the hotel has a somewhat unprepossessing exterior, and an oddly located reception area on the first floor, the interior is clean and bright. The room was smaller than I would expect from a HI property (this a franchised hotel) but was pleasant and spotlessly clean. The bed was firm and very comfortable and came with both firm and soft pillows, and a menu of further options (feather, hypoallergenic, etc) that could be ordered. There was a large flat screen TV (standard channels plus some cable options) a hospitality tray furnished with Tetley tea bags, Kenco instant coffees and biscuits, a hair dryer, and a mini bar that could be stocked on request. The bathroom was clean and modern, with a curved shower rail and plenty of counter space for toiletries and make up. A range of hot and cold choices were provided for breakfast, with good quality rolls and pastries and plenty of fruit on offer. I ate lunch and evening meals in the bar, the restaurant and in my room and the food was of a consistent quality - hot, freshly prepared, appetisingly presented - and good value for money (in hotel terms). Internet access although charged for is extremely cheap by hotel standards, and Priority Club members get free WiFi in the bar, restaurant and other public areas. Front of house and F & B staff were friendly and welcoming, and all requests were responded to immediately. I appeared to be the only lone female staying in the hotel, but felt safe and comfortable at all times. I would definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel to business travellers.

Stayed at the hotel last week on business. Got a decent room overlooking the bus station. The hotel seemed very clinical and was OK for one night. The bed was comfy and I slept well until the room above came back and were very noisy. Breakfast was good, but the eggs seemed to have been out a while. The only negative thing about this hotel is the car parking....I was too late to get one of the hotel spaces and had to park in a rather grotty car park above the bus station. I really wasn't happy about leaving my car there! Staff were helpful and friendly throughout my stay. Like I say, a good hotel for one night!

Just got back from a one night stay at the Holiday Inn, generally everything was ok, but nothing special.

The staff were friendly in a scripted kind of way, but thats common in these big chain hotels. They took a swipe of my credit card on check in, but when I tried to charge dinner to my room, it was not possible, apparently the swipe on check in only guaranteed me for the room rate, this needs to be addressed because many guests charge things to their rooms when staying in hotels, especially at a chain like Holiday Inn. I was also informed that paying for dinner with my Amex card would incur a £3.50 charge!

The room was fine, clean and functional and quite modern, beds were comfortable.

The food in the hotel was one of the big positives for me, breakfast and dinner both very nice, so would not hesitate to have dinner here again next time I stay.

I came to Preston on public transport, but I can see why previous reviews talked about the car parking at the holiday inn - the car park was tiny, maybe 20 spaces maximum, and some cars were even parked on the double yellow lines in the car park outside of the spaces. Would be extremely irritiating to arrive here after a very long drive and not be able to park. I appreciate this is not the hotel's fault though.

Overall the hotel was fine and I would have no problem staying here again in the future.

Me and my partner stayed here for 2 nights for a short break. The rooms where nice and clean and very modern, the service was average from the front desk and our towels where not changed for clean ones. We decided to stay in for a meal with room service on our last night. We ordered our food which is not nice at all, it was like it had been pre-cooked and left on the side and then re-heated again. The next day I threw it all back up again, so I would not recommend to order food but we slept very well which I suppose is all that matters.

First the good points. The room was well appointed and spacious. Bathroom a good size and everything was spotless. Good housekeeping.
Bad points access to the hotel is very difficult and arking is very limited. If you don't get there early you have no chance so the only option is the 24 hr car park over the bus station opposite. Its not the best palce to leave your car but cheap. The quality of the food is what you expect for a holiday inn but quite expensive. I would suggest you eat at the bar. You get the same quality but at half the price.

This is a perfectly fine Holiday Inn with reasonable rooms, restaurant, bar etc. The staff are friendly and the hotel is situated very close to the city centre.

I stayed on a Saturday night and there was quite a lot of noise coming from the corridors, particularly from people returning back from clubs at 2 or 3am and thinking it was fine to have a loud conversation outside my door. This is hardly the fault of the hotel though.

What really lets the hotel down is the parking facilities, or rather the lack of parking facilities. I arrived late evening at 11:30pm and found that the car park only had space for between 25 and 30 cars. All of the parking bays were full so I went into the hotel to ask where to park and was instructed to go to the bus station car park across the road. This is a very undesirable car park and not one that I would like to walk through again late at night.

If you were arriving in Preston on the bus, then this hotel would be fine, but if you're driving then look for an alternative. If you are looking for a stop off point on the M6, then go to the Holiday Inn Lancaster instead.

Stayed here for 2 nights, lovely room, very clean & comfortable. Very centrally located. Not many parking spaces, had to park in the town centre streets on the Saturday night!
My only negative comment that was it was rememberence Sunday and being married to someone in the armed forces the 2 minute silcence was very important to me. While obseving this in my room the maid continued to hover and move furniture throughout this in the room next door.
However this would not put me off returning.

This hotel is next the bus station and within easy walking distance of the centre of Preston.
The hotel is very functional and lacks any character of interest. The rooms are well soundproofed so the location next to the bus station creates no noise problems.
The breakfast options are reasonable and include options for vegetarians.
My main problem with this hotel is that I did not get the 7am morning call which I had asked for at reception. For this reason I have given a low score for service.

Holiday Inn Preston was an awesome hotel for the 2 nights which I stayed here. The food was brilliant and the location was amazing. The rooms were very quiet and the service was very good. However, the rooms and toilets were a bit small. The rooms were nicely decorated and the view from the room was good. The beds were amazing and the variety of TV channels was good. If I come to Preston again, I will surely stay here.

I recently stayed in the Preston Holiday Inn along with my wife for one night as we had come to see Sarah Millican at the Guild Hall.

This was our first stay in a Holiday Inn and we were most impressed. The decor of the room was very nice and we couldn't fault any part of our stay. The staff were also friendly and the breakfast was also very nice.

The location is also very handy being in easy walking distance of the main shopping area and also for us, the Guild Hall

Stayed here for a couple of weeks due to work, and was very surprised. I was expecting the same old chain hotel rubish, but that was not the case. I have to say that all of the staff were very friendly and helpful the rooms were excellent, and for a city centre hotel it was not as noisy as I was expecting. The meals from the restaurant were superb, as was the breakfasts, and the bar/lounge area is a great place to unwind. I would have no hesitation in staying here again

From booking to reception to what happened after to our leaving everything and everyone at the Holiday Inn should be complimented. 6th Floor room with great views and very comfortable for a short stay. Restaurent service and food was of the very best. (The bar lunch on the Sunday was a tinge iffy but OK.) But what made it all very special was Lorraine!
Return to the Hopliday Inn? Most certainly!

Once you get past the grim exterior of this hotel the inside looks surprisingy stylish, with comfy circular seating areas and soft sofas.

This hotel was not built to be a Holiday Inn so the rooms are not as spacious as you normally get with this chain, but they are nicely decorated.

The staff were very friendly and the food excellent

There are not many parking spaces, but we had no problem getting a space - and there is a multi storey next door which I believe was £4 per night.

To be honest this place was a revelation.

We had low expectations--chain hotel, city centre in the north of England, likely to be a bit grim, etc.--but were very pleasantly surprised.

The best thing was the staff. We stayed twice in September and on both occasions the front desk staff and the people in the bar and breakfast room were excellent: friendly, helpful and welcoming. (My wife, an experienced manager who was fascinated by the consistent pleasantness of the staff, which is hardly a common experience in chain hotels, wondered if this place is just a happy place to work with good managers and a strong team spirit: whatever the cause, the results were very good.)

The breakfasts were very good too. Just what you would hope for in a northern English hotel. And if you don't fancy eating in the in-house restaurant there's Preston city centre at your disposal, with Heathcotes' Brasserie only ten minutes walk away.

Frankly, for anyone looking to break a long journey on the M6 somewhere in the area, you could do a very lot worse than give Preston Holiday Inn a go.

This place was good for rate paid on a special offer. Spent 1 night here. Small room, but was clean. Bed a bit of the hard side but no different to a lot of hotels. Tea/coffee provided, bathroom good. Parking is a bit limited, but if you get lucky it's free unlike some HIs.

The gentleman on reception was very friendly and helpful. Paid for breakfast at check in.

My main gripe was the breakfast staff. They were rude and challenged that I'd paid, with no apology when mistake was discovered. Also, no tea/coffee offered, when I asked for a pot of tea like the other guests seemed to have, reluctant staff poured something resembling dishwater out of a jug. Also had to reuse a milk jug that had been left by previous guest at table as none offered.

Rest of breakfast was ok as that was buffet self service. There were a lot of BAE staff staying there who seemed to be getting all the preferential treatment. For example, we wasn't allowed to pay cash at the bar, but the other guests were. The night porter was friendly and helpful though.

Would avoid breakfast there if were to go back. Great having convenience of being in town centre, cleanliness and polite attitude of the reception staff.
