Why High-Achieving Women Over 40 Lose Their Edge. And Exactly How to Get It Back

Let me paint you a picture.

She's built something real. A business, a career, a reputation. She shows up. She delivers. By most measures, including her own, she is capable, driven and good at what she does.

But something has shifted.

The focus that used to feel effortless now requires effort. The energy that used to carry her through a demanding day now runs out somewhere around mid-afternoon. The version of herself that felt sharp, certain and genuinely well? She's in there somewhere. Just increasingly hard to find.

She doesn't talk about it much. She pushes through because that's what she does and tells herself it's stress, a busy month, or just getting older.

It isn't any of those things. Or rather, it isn't only those things.

And more importantly: it's fixable.

High-achieving women don't suddenly lose their performance. They lose it gradually, so they almost don't notice until the cost becomes significant.

What's Actually Happening? And Why It Matters

Women in business over 40 are navigating a genuine physiological shift. Perimenopause and menopause alter the hormonal landscape in ways that directly affect energy, cognitive function, stress tolerance & cortisol, sleep quality, mood regulation and body composition.

None of this is dramatic. That's precisely the problem.

It shows up quietly. A 3 pm energy crash that didn't used to happen. A stress response that feels less manageable than it used to. Mental fogginess sits just behind the eyes on days that used to feel clear. Your body no longer responds to the habits that always worked before.

And because it's gradual, and because you’re a high-achieving woman, you’re very good at compensating, it often goes unaddressed for years.

This is not a wellbeing problem. It's a performance problem.

And it has specific, evidence-informed solutions.

That's what my work is built around. Not generic wellness advice. Not "self-care" in the bubble-bath sense of the word. Performance coaching that addresses what is actually happening, physiologically, psychologically and strategically, giving women in business the tools to rebuild from there.

The StrongHer F.A.B Method

As a multi-award-winning Menopause and Empowerment coach with more than two decades of experience in corporate leadership, and through my own experience of surgical menopause in my mid-thirties and eight years competing as a master’s bodybuilder in my 40s & 50s, I developed the StrongHer FAB Method.

It's a three-pillar framework for rebuilding performance from the ground up. Not a quick fix. Not a detox. A structured, sustainable approach that addresses the three areas where high-achieving women most consistently lose ground.

Foundation — Fuel Your Performance

The Foundation pillar is about energy at its most fundamental level: how you fuel your body, how your nervous system is functioning, and whether your sleep is recovering you.

Many of the women I work with have spent years running on caffeine, skipping breakfast, pushing through fatigue and treating sleep as negotiable. These habits, which may have worked in their 30s, actively work against them after 40, particularly when hormonal shifts already affect cortisol regulation and blood sugar stability.

The Foundation work is practical and immediate. Small, specific changes that stabilise energy, reduce the afternoon crash and create the physiological conditions in which genuine performance becomes possible again.

Alignment — Move With Purpose

The Alignment pillar addresses movement, strength and recovery, not as fitness goals but as performance infrastructure.

Strength training after 40 is not optional for women who want to perform at the highest level. It supports bone density, metabolic function, mood regulation, cognitive performance and stress resilience in ways that no other form of exercise replicates. And yet it remains the most consistently overlooked element of high-achieving women's health strategies.

Alignment is also where we address recovery, intentional, strategic rest as a performance tool rather than a sign of weakness. Women who learn to recover well consistently outperform women who simply push harder.

Breakthrough — Rise as Yourself

The Breakthrough pillar is where identity work happens, and it tends to have the most impact.

High-achieving women who have spent years prioritising their business, their team, their clients and their family often find, somewhere in their 40s, that they have lost the thread back to themselves. They know who they are in the context of their career or business, but the woman underneath all the doing has become harder to find.

Breakthrough is about finding her again. Challenging the stories women tell themselves, about worth, about productivity, about what has to be earned before it's deserved and what keeps driven women small. This is where you step back into an identity that is expansive, grounded, and genuinely yours.

Performance isn't just about what you can do. It's about who you are when you're doing it. That's where the real work happens.

Introducing The StrongHer Trilogy

If you're reading this and something is resonating, if you recognise yourself in what I've described and you've been wondering where to start, I want to tell you about something I've recently launched for women in the local area.

The StrongHer Trilogy is three focused 60-minute online sessions, one for each pillar of the FAB Method. Bought as a complete bundle for £149, under £50 per session, it's designed to be the starting point for women who are ready to do something about where they are, without committing to a full coaching programme before they know if it's right for them.

The StrongHer Trilogy

Three 60-minute sessions  ·  Foundation · Alignment · Breakthrough

Session 1 — Foundation: Fuel Your Performance

Why your energy has shifted and what to do about it, starting this week.

Session 2 — Alignment: Move With Purpose

Strength, movement and recovery as a performance strategy, not a fitness goal.

Session 3 — Breakthrough: Rise as Yourself

Identity, ownership and stepping back into the woman you truly are.

£149 for all three  |  Live online via Zoom  |  Recording included

Each session gives you one clear insight, one practical tool, and one specific action to take away. The sessions build on each other but are complete in their own right.

Women who complete all three sessions receive an exclusive offer on the StrongHer FAB Programme, my 14-week small-group coaching experience, as well as a free first month in the StrongHer Circle, my membership community for women in business.

Who This Is For

The Trilogy, and my work more broadly, is designed for:

  • Female founders, entrepreneurs and professionals over 40
  • Women who are high-functioning but quietly running on, or approaching empty
  • Women who suspect that hormonal changes are affecting their performance but aren't sure where to start
  • Women who are ready to stop being last on their own list
  • Women in and around the Market Harborough area, Leicestershire

You don't need to be struggling dramatically. The women I work with are not falling apart. They are capable, committed and still showing up. They just know, somewhere underneath the doing, that something needs to shift.

And they're right.

A Note from Me

I want to be honest with you about something.

When I experienced surgical menopause in my mid-thirties, I did what high-achieving women do. I kept going, I kept delivering, telling myself I was fine.

I wasn't fine, and the performance I was maintaining was costing me more than I could see at the time. This ultimately led to burnout twice, resulting in hospitalisation.

What I learned on the path back to myself, through research, through practice, through competing as a bodybuilder in my 40s when most people thought I was having a midlife crisis (spoiler: I was having a breakthrough), became the foundation of everything I now teach.

I'm not standing on the other side of this shouting advice down. I've walked the path. I know exactly what the ground feels like under your feet right now.

And I know what's on the other side.

You don't need to start over. You need to find your way back — to the woman you were before work took over, and to the woman she's become.
