Large cathedral in centre of scenic Lichfield. Costs £5 voluntary donation admission. Extra to go into tower area. The cathedral has many beautiful stained glass windows. Lots of other interesting areas to visit within the building.
A nice little shop selling a variety of souvenirs etc.

Arrived in time to join the Tower Tour of the 3 magnificent church spires. Sincere thanks to George and Graham our excellent and engaging tour guides who were both knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The time flew by and we really enjoyed our afternoon at the cathedral.
Fabulous Bible exhibition too. Well worth a visit.

The friendly cathedral. We made two visits to this incredible and approachable cathedral. The first was to attend the solemn Sunday choral Evensong on June 29th, and for a general tour on Monday, June 30th. On both visits we were able to view the building with its depth of history and wonderful architecture. Choral evensong was a sheer delight and we sat deep in the midst of it. The service was warm generous and lovely to listen to. after the service we stayed to carefully wander around the cathedral and were regularly noting how splendid everything was. The next day we booked a general tour at a cost of £5 and were treated by Guide Graham to one of the best tours of a cathedral we have taken. Graham was so able to impart his enthusiasm and warmth for the building and its place in history and the community. Graham was warmth, full a telling stories and able to use illustrations to help us understand and appreciate what we were seeing. We would thoroughly encourage others to take such a tour. One of the impressive elements of both our visits was the use of large interactive displays which brought things to life. Another was the exhibition in the Chapter House charting the history of the bible within this country, with magnificent displays of information paired with the bibles they were explaining. When we were leaving the Chapter House on our tour with Graham, he pointed out something that we would never have seen. Carved in the capitals of a column were two boys: one was scrumping apples, the other was acting as a look-out.

An absolute treasure: Wonderful to look around, have a guided tour, and listen to a concert. Do not forget to look at the very old buildings around The Close, particularly the ones near Erasmus Darwin's House.
The hundreds of statues and gargoyles that adorn the walls of the cathedral are wonderful to see. Also, the resident Peregrine Falcon protecting its territory is absolutely marvelous.
Well worth a visit or two.
We attended the Johns' Boys Welsh Choir concert: several of the songs were so heartfelt that I had tears in my eyes.
