Took the kids as a change from Colchester zoo and this place was amazing. The kids loved the Dino area and the train and the zoo itself was great being able to see the animals so close. Took a picnic for lunch there was plenty of seating in a park area which also allowed the kids to run off and play while we finished eating. We will definitely be going again.

Wasn't what I was expecting, was a bit disappointed. Big cats enclosures were too small, although only saw lion and snow leopard (male lion was very stressed). Wasn't many animals at all for the cost of entrance. My 3yr old loved the dinosaurs, the kids enjoyed reading the facts and I do like the accessibility round the whole place. I could get everywhere which was very nice. Unfortunately it hasn't lived up to expectations and isnt one we would rush back to.

Another great day out, there was plenty to see and do. All the animals looked well cared for and fed. It was amazing how close you felt you were to some of animals. Including the lions and the sun bear. The glass so clean it was like it wasn't there. The shops were responsibly priced and depending on your budget they had plenty to choose from. The food was nice and was a generous portion. Overall we had an amazing day would I would happily return.

The zoo’s a proper treat for all ages. The big cats are the real stars, there are loads of viewing platforms so you can peer right into their enclosures and spot tigers, lions and leopards up close. The little ones go bonkers for the Dinosaur Park, too, with life-size dino models to view on and learn about. The train ride is £2 per person which lasts a few minutes.

When hunger pangs strike, the on-site restaurant and food outlets does decent grub at expected prices, but if you’re after a picnic vibe, feel free to bring your own lunch. There are plenty of benches and picnic tables dotted about, so you can kick back wherever takes your fancy. All in all, it’s a good day out, whether you’re an animal lover or just looking for something to do with the kids.

The Best Zoo in UK for family, toddlers and so... My daughter is obsessed with the birds fly performances (twice in a day), the water shooting gun, sand pit, paddling pool and indoor softplay. Crazy about it... makes me happy too

Nightmare getting there and back(from London) but absolutely brilliant once we were there. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and chatty to my EXTREMELY inquisitive 6yo son lol
He was delighted to meet Tyler from
1 Zoo 3 who actually made the effort to be available when asked. Really appreciated. Great day and the Dinosaur Land was an incredible extra. Just brilliant. ( Only thing a bit disappointing is how expensive the souvenir shops are. )

A really good day out. I went with my sister and my two teenagers and we all thoroughly enjoyed our day. The theming, informative signs, viewing areas/platforms and eateries were very good. Of course the wonderful animals were the highlight and I can recommend attending the bird show! At the end of the day we even had a train ride around the dinosaur area for £2 each, which ended the day nicely.

A brilliant zoo, I would say one of the best we have visited. It was busy but we didn't feel it, its nicely spread out so you never feel crowded, it was also very clean and tidy. The staff were fantastic, even when doing something they were happy to answer questions on animals, they were all happy, friendly and genuinely seemed to enjoy being there. The animals all seemed happy and healthy with a lovely variety. As with all zoos it would be nice to see them with more space. The food was of excellent quality and reasonably priced. Nice to have the mix of animals, the dino trail and parks too.
It is 3.5hours away from us but worth every minute in the car. Would 100% recommend

A lovely whole family experience - 3 generations! Our youngsters were 2 & 5 and the elder of the two an avid 1 Zoo 3 watcher so when looking for a zoo experience this had to be a choice. Our first visit and we were only disappointed by the tiger doing what tigers do best .... hiding, so we didn't get to see it!! The Zoo is kinda split in two halves with a manned road splitting the two parts. On the entry side that's where the dinosaur exhibition was set out and WOW.... the adults were in awe... the two year old took one look and announced "I scared!" - so just be cautious if taking littlies in. There is also a huge outdoor play area on that side that was a huge hit with our youngsters and we had to remind them we were there to see the Zoo part. The main Zoo section is across the dividing (but manned) carpark access road, and there is so much to see. There are lions, a tiger and snow leopards but not other large animals like elephants nor giraffes or rhinos, but we were there until closing and didn't get to see everything so there is a lot to see and do. I would highly recommend catching the penguin talk and feeding time and just take your time enjoying the experience. There were only 2 downsides, one that the Zoo itself could address, which is the small train ride. As Grandparent I didn't mind paying the extra money for the younger members to go on there, but the actual manning of it was poor. There was one member of staff who took the payments, checked the train and then drove it, meaning it took sooo long to actually queue for the ride with toddlers. One other person taking the money / issuing tickets would have sped the process up. The other downside was actually "bad parenting" ... There are so many signs up in all of the relevant sections about not banging on the glass yet everywhere we went there were children and adults doing just that... Children and toddlers will copy others and we constantly had to remind our littlest that banging on the glass is wrong (usually over loudly hoping others would get the message!) But overall we had a fantastic day out. It was busy, being bank holiday weekend but it didn't feel full. If planning a visit look out for offers on tickets, it's not cheap, and be careful crossing over from the main carpark to the Zoo itself. The carpark is on one side of quite a busy road and the Zoo on the other side so hang on to your children and keep a close eye out for traffic.
