We visited Hertfordshire Zoo for the first time to experience feeding a big cat. Our keeper was Hannah, who was very cheerful, extremely knowledgeable (obviously loves her big cats) and, although she must have had other duties to see to, we never felt rushed to finish up our experience and possibly even got a little more than our 30mins in the end. I had hoped to feed Siberia the tiger but she'd been fed the day before, it was already pretty hot by 9am and she really wasn't in the mood, which I totally understood; she's not a 'performing' cat after all. Hannah suggested we could try again later (but we decided against that as it would be even hotter) or see if Jessie the snow leopard was up for it, so off we went to see her. She was very much into the idea of some extra food, she zoomed around the structures in her enclosure to get to Hannah (and the food) . Once she was settled at the fence, Hannah walked me through the feeding procedure - to make sure I didn't come away with fewer fingers than I started with - and off we went. Jessie was very gentle with me and even licked my fingers, though it was through the gloves you need to wear to avoid passing on diseases. Once we were all done, she went off to sun herself on one of her favourite spots and, while she was relaxing, Hannah got a lovely close up photo of Jessie for us. On the way back to where the food is prepared to drop off her bucket, Hannah took us via the jaguars and told us a bit about Kedera and Kumal, including the fact that their daughter Leila is at The Big Cat Sanctuary (where I fed her last year!). It was good to be some of the first into the zoo that morning, so there were very few people about while we strolled around the big cat areas and it was actually very relaxing. It isn't cheap to feed a big cat but we felt it was well worth it for both the experience for me to get so close to a wonderful big cat and because the money goes to conservation of the animals you feed; so we both get something out of it.

I always prefer this zoo to most in the area. It is because the children can have a great time seeing animals without taking a long time to move from one enclosure to another. It is always worth it to go to some of the talks or when there are animal encounters. Always lots of fun!

Fabulous animal experience. Park itself needs better signs to indicate where animals are.

We had the most lovely day. All the staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. My daughter also had the zoo keeper experience whereby she hot to clean out Marion the Tortoise, fed the Zebras, pigs and the penguins and her highlight was getting to handle some of their reptiles which included a bearded dragon, stick insect and a hissing cockroach. Joshua was the zoo keeper looking after us and he was just lovely and full of fascinating information anf was amazing with my daughter. We all came away from there with huge smiles on out faces and will definitely be going back

We went to this zoo on a Monday pre-school holidays. Our local zoo is Colchester and I'm afraid this zoo cannot compete at all. The zoo was still great, clean, animals are happy etc. Dinosaur part was really great and was the purpose of our trip. My son loved it so much we did the Dinosaur section twice.
The reasons for my 3 stars are that there were no food places open in the animal section except for a icecream stand, which is not ideal for lunch when 1 scoop is £3.50. And the ticket price is £10 more than Colchester Zoo with the prebooking discount, which feels expensive considering you could spend all day at Colchester and still not see it all but this zoo we'd stopped for lunch, played on the play areas, did the dinosaur bit twice and saw all the animals in 4 hours.

Excellent zoo. Animals habitats and inside living areas super clean and large with lots of natural foliage and wood.
Varied viewing walkways and platforms mean you get super close to the animals.
Sloth experience was fantastic!

Truly an amazing place, first time ive been since I was a kid when it was called Paradise Wildlife park. The enclosures looked well maintained and cared for, the animals looked healthy and happy. There were always keepers around which was nice to see and a big shout out to the keeper at the sun bear enclosure, he was very knowledgeable and took lots of time to talk and explain about the sun bears, where they come from and the pressures they face in the wild and in illegal trade.
Had a great time and will be back soon.

A good zoo, not massive but plenty to see. There are some enclosures that offer "hiding" places for the animals - while it makes sense for animals to be able to feel comfortable and get out of the sun, the places are so covered and not possible to see at all, so you will likely miss out on quite a few animals.

The zoo was clean, with plenty of spots for filling water and getting snacks. Staff are polite and helpful. Play areas for the kids help break the day up. Parking is plentiful.

Had a great day here. Hertfordshire Zoo might not be the biggest but it puts a lot of attention to detail in the different areas. Seeing the decorations and hearing the music make it feel really special. Went on the hottest day of the year but still saw every animal!
