We are members of Chester Zoo, and once a year we can visit a "partner" zoo for free, so we did! We saw many creatures and enjoyed ourselves immensely. The zoo have talks throughout the day and the Penguin one was great.

We visited yesterday and had a fantastic day! It was about 26⁰C so some animals were hiding in the shade but we got great views of lots of them, especially those that we went along to the talk for. The talks were very good, my 8 year old listened to it all, about 10-15 minutes for each one and the keepers were happy to answer lots of questions. I was very impressed that they gave information about how the public can help endangered animals by choosing certain products such as Rainforest Alliance tea. All the animals looked very healthy and well looked after.

The highlight for my daughter was seeing Tyler from One Zoo Three, he really was the nicest guy, happy to chat and have a photo taken with her 😊

We hired a stroller for the day as my daughter is autistic. This worked really well and enabled her to enjoy the day much more, well worth the £14 for a double one which was big enough for her.

Although it was the summer holidays and the car park looked pretty full, nothing seemed ridiculously crowded, we didn't have to queue long for anything and there was plenty of seating in shady spots.
We went for lunch in the air conditioned Pangaea cafe a bit later, 2pm, and by then the salads had sold out and the sandwich choice was limited so recommend getting lunch earlier. The food was reasonably good. Could do with some more non-fizzy soft drinks choices, they only had little cartons or water. There were lots of water refill points around the zoo which was good.
I have a feeling the Sunbear Bakery (which we only discovered later in the day) might have been a nicer place to eat with views of the abimals but there isn't much information on the website about what food is available where so we'd just headed to the main "food court" area.

All on all it was an excellent day out, there was easily enough to do for a whole day. Next time I will make sure to go to the paddling pool, we missed it this time as I'd forgotten it closes 30 mins before the zoo shuts and I'd been planning on going just before we left. So we will definitely back and would highly recommend a visit!

Absolutely amazing. Food great, toilets very clean. Dinosaur area is just fantastic. My 2 grandsons (4 and 5) were so excited. Surpassed my expectations. Then the zoo itself was lovely. Not.too huge, which was great for little legs. The beach and pool at the end was a huge surprise. My grandsons stripped off and ran straight in with their pants :-) fantastic day Thank you

The last time I visited this place it was about 30 years ago and was still called Paradise Park. All I can say is wow what a transformation. Coming from the north, it’s not a place we can get to easily but due to visiting family we used this as a place to call on the way. We made a lot of comparisons to the zoo we visit in South Yorkshire. Hertfordshire zoo has absolutely smashed it. Viewing platforms are well placed. There is a great range of animals. The map is easy to follow and you work your way round simply. It took us about half a day. There’s plenty of toilets. There’s water filling stations which came in handy as it was very hot. There are plenty of cafes and huts for refreshments. Every single member of staff we encountered was friendly. The volunteers were great too. If you are a regular visitor, there’s plenty to keep the kids entertained. It’s just a shame that there is a charge for the Dino train as the ticket prices are quite expensive. The paddling pool looked fun. Oh to be a child again.
I would love to visit again in the future. Maybe next time there will be other animals to see. I was very impressed.

Not normally one for reviews but first time visiting here yesterday and I’ll definitely be back, my kids really enjoyed it and had alot of fun the beach area was a really lovely addition aswell and there was lots to do throughout the zoo. Que went quick which was great.

I would like to add, the shop as you leave the dinosaur area, there was a security guy there, I didn’t mange to get his name but it was a big ginger man, well he is an absolute credit to your team one of my sons has autism and was asking him lots of questions he took the time to answer all 100 questions 🤣 was polite and very friendly and it allowed me to have a quick look around the shop without him getting worked up , he was also opening the door for people with buggy’s and wheel chairs also was picking up toys and putting back when kids were leaving on the floor around the shop.

he wasn’t wearing the same uniform as the rest of the zoo staff but if you could pass on a massive thank you, he made made me and my kids feel very welcome and safe.

The best Zoo I’ve visited. Great zoo, brilliantly set out, always see all the animals (unlike a lot of zoos). Great spots to eat like the coffee shop by the sun bears and the pizzeria near the tigers, he came and laid down next to the window we were sat at! We have been two years in a row as our son loves the dinosaur park, it is highly impressive. Fabulous day out all around.

We had the most incredible meerkat experience while celebrating my Moeke's (Nan's) 90th birthday. My mum gifted her the experience so she could tick it off her bucket list, and it truly exceeded all of our expectations.
A huge thank you to Lucy, who was absolutely fantastic. She was so warm, friendly, approachable, and incredibly knowledgeable about the meerkats. No question was ever too much, and her genuine enthusiasm made the whole experience even more special.
Seeing my Moeke's dream come true was something we'll never forget, and Lucy played such a big part in making that happen. Thank you for creating such a wonderful memory that our family will treasure forever. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.

The zoo was nice for kids aged 6 and under but not the best for kids around 10+.

Also when we walked through the rainforest the walk was empty.
One of the signs by the Capybaras said "Koalas in 9km"
we asked a worker where they were and he said "there are no koalas at the zoo".
But the atmosphere was nice and friendly .The way the buildings were set was a little complicated.

Review by a 10 year old.

A brilliant zoo, I would say one of the best we have visited. It was busy but we didn't feel it, its nicely spread out so you never feel crowded, it was also very clean and tidy. The staff were fantastic, even when doing something they were happy to answer questions on animals, they were all happy, friendly and genuinely seemed to enjoy being there. The animals all seemed happy and healthy with a lovely variety. As with all zoos it would be nice to see them with more space. The food was of excellent quality and reasonably priced. Nice to have the mix of animals, the dino trail and parks too.
It is 3.5hours away from us but worth every minute in the car. Would 100% recommend

A very well maintained and designed zoo. Plenty to do and see for the youngsters with lots of convenient picnic seating areas.

Lots of fun activities for the kids. One day is not enough to do all the activities so I reccommend going back! Some of the activities are not included in the entramce ticket so you have to pay extra. The zoo layout was going in circles so always check your map. They have Peppa Pig and Dinosaur meet and and greet when we visited. Lots of animals to see and the best dinosaur park we have been so far. Arrive before opening times so the queu is not that long for the entrance. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.
