11 years ago we stood proudly on another Remembrance Sunday as Joe was 1 of 4 cadets who were on sentry duty at Hertford Cenotaph. This was partly because serving armed forces personnel and reserves were involved in combat overseas. Today 3 of 4 Masseys attended the moving tribute, as we do each year. To mark the Centenary of the end of WW1, Hertford Castle has a cascade of hand crafted poppies. #mayweneverforget. Proud to be a resident and this iconic moment marked brilliantly.

Came here this Saturday to see the cascade of poppies. Beautiful to see from a distance and close up! Hours of work has gone into the making of these poppies and please go see before they go!! You won’t be disappointed! Highly recommend 😁

Had a great afternoon at "Rock in the Castle" in the beautiful sunshine !
Good music, views and bars to enjoy on a very hot afternoon. Very well attended and even had to queue to get it but it was worth it. A most enjoyable free afternoons entertainment. Lovely gardens (even after the heat wave) and river flowing through the grounds with cute bridges over. Well done to the organisers !

First visit in many years proved to be a pleasant surprise. It's been transformed from a dreary, uninteresting little place into a thriving, busy small town. Nothing remarkable about the shops except that all is easily accessible on foot (traffic is a bit of a nightmare in good weather) and the River Lea provides welcome respite, walkways and distractions. The Castle and its grounds are attractive and a provide a short distraction. Lots of eateries - chains and local.

Definitely worth a short visit.

Well worth a visit in this attractive town with its location inside the park so a good place to take your picnic. Really a Keep not a castle but does not lessen the attraction

I have visited this place many times in the past and have very fond memories of it with friends. A great place full of life and a wonderful river full of ducks and other creatures. A main issue are all the teenagers hanging out around a small brick structure near the lake with benches and a roof. They can often been smoking, indulging themselves in drugs or sometimes even fornicating when less people are present. Other than the lack of control of lurking teenagers often with illegal substances, this place is great for the family.

we called in whilst the classic cars were on display on the green.
have a look for the portraits of mayors through the ages. See how fashion has changed.
A video was playing in one of the large ground floor rooms, gave a good history of the castle from the time of the first timber buildings.

We went along to the Teddy Bear's Picnic last July and really enjoyed it. The event itself was free and there were some free of charge teddy bear games, Punch and Judy show and some river rides (although we didn't do those). Also chargeable bouncy castle, craft making etc. The castle was open and my son enjoyed looking around the dungeon, and both children enjoyed completing the teddy bear trail.

Visited Hertford town and castle today. Had a lovely time, my son was amazed exploring the castle rooms, especially fascinated by the ‘dungeon’. Some lovely dresses for children to try on too. The staff working here today were very polite and friendly. I highly recommend a visit to this lovely area.

We got married at Hertford Castle a while back and the whole experience was great from start to finish.

We met with Jackie, the venue co-ordinator who took us on a tour around the castle and the attached grounds. The building itself has a number of wonderful focal points for wedding photography, the grand lion door and spiral staircase being two. The grounds also have archways, a wooden bridge over the River Lee and the gardens which were perfect for our album.

The organisation in terms of the day itself was fantastic. The staff worked perfectly with our caterers to transform the ceremony seating into a dining room that was everything we wanted it to look like.

The whole day went seamlessly well and all the staff helped us avoid the myth of the stressful wedding day where something always goes wrong.

My wife and myself could not recommend Hertford Castle enough.

Absolutely stunning venue! We had our wedding ceremony at Herford Castle mid-week with our closest friends and family. Jackie and the team at the Castle bent over backwards to make our day special and it really was perfect and also very affordable! The views from the Castle are stunnng, the gardens are beautiful and the rooms are so warm and friendly. I'd recommend to anyone to host an occasion here and I certainly will again!

Visited the Castle building for the first time recently and I was very surprised at how well it is maintained and how much history is attached to it dating back as far as the 10th century. It has had a long association with various Kings and Elizabeth 1 was a frequent visitor. The names associated with the castle also give their names to buildings in the area like the Salisbury, Cowper Arms and the College Arms. There is an interesting visual presentation of the history of the castle in a 10 minute video. The robing room for the Mayor is interesting as is the tour of the dungeon area. The castle grounds have the River Lea flowing alongside and the gardens are well maintained. The castle grounds are the site for various events during the year such as Rock at the Castle and the Food and Drink Festival. Well worth a visit at any time, but especially if combined with one of the above. It is also a wedding venue and accommodates the Hertford Town Council. A visit can last up to an hour or longer if all the historical information is studied. Entry is free, but a donation for the upkeep of the building is welcomed.

My friend and I took a walk around the ruins of Hertford Castle. the gardens were very tranquil and there is a lovely pond you can sit by and watch the birds and the squirrels. A bit of an oasis in the middle of the town

This a very interesting and historic site in the centre of town. Hertford has a long history dating back to the Norman invasion of Britain and the Castle features in all years since . It also has a very pleasant venue for receptions and wake's the caterers will provide food etc

So much more could be made of ths fabulous venue but being run by a local authority passion, drive and committment seems to be lacking.

We went for a friends anniversary party at the castle. The castle is somewhat misleading in that there is one wall from the original castle the main building is a new build albeit it looks good!.
I think the best thing is the gardens . Really nice landscaped gardens. If I went specifically to see the castle I would have been terribly disappointed. But if you are in the area worth visiting the gardens.
