I have lived ten miles from Hertford and in the ten years I have been here I never ever knew that Hertford had the remains of a large Norman castle! This lies within a charming park adjacent to the river Lea with a substantial gothic house in the architectural style of John Nash. Many of the original ramparts and surrounding walls are intact as well as semi fortifications. The environs around the castle are charming with a mixture of Georgian, Victorian and jettied architecture. Hertford a forgotten town is well worth a visit

Hertford castle annual car show is a small but interesting day out with a mix of car's from very early examples to modern day UK and American hand built custom rods to factory built everyday cars. There are little gems of all types. During the show the castle is open for visits and there are food stalls and live music.

Have just exhibited at the Hertford Castle Christmas Market which took place over 3 days. What a fabulous event. Extremely well organised with a great selection of products, food and entertainment. Huge thanks to Debbie Baker for the hard work and effort she put in to make this event a success for stall holders and customers. If you didn't get a chance to attend, be sure to go along next year if they hold it again as you won't be disappointed.

Visited to watch 'Quantum Theatre' perform 'A Midsummer Nights Dream'. It was a fantastic performance (well done to the small cast) and was well organised and the Covid-19 precautions looked pretty good.

Great gardens to chill and relax while catching rays in spring and summer. Lots of ducks, geese and swans to look at. Just be aware of the gate closing times at different times of the year.

Lovely quaint historical location. Signs explaining the history all over the area and mostly tucked away from Hertford's town center. Great location for a summer's walk 😊

I am bias in my opinion of Hertford Castle as I work there. It is a little oasis of calm away from the busy town centre with its sunny lawn, shaded in places by ancient trees. With the river Lea running through the grounds its banks give places for quiet reflection or for children and there families to feed the grateful ducks. Their is also the rose garden and the moat garden, both with well manicured lawns and benches to sit and ponder what it might have been like to live in the castle with its long filled in double moat, and knights in armour clattering across the drawbridge.
Unfortunately covid 19 has put an end to the events that take place on the lawn, today would have been Rock at the Castle, and the tours of the castle won't be coming back any time soon, but the grounds are still open for social distancing picnics etc.
