Some good Interpretation Signage onsite and an even better 3-D artists model at Hertford Museum. Worth the visit, would be better if it was open to the public.

Went here to attend a wedding in April. Lovely place, staff all very nice. A few different rooms were used for various stages of the wedding which was really nice, so much better than just being stuck in a hall or one big room all day and night. Lovely outside spaces to have a break and a nice walk around. Food was excellent. Not sure about going just as an attraction, personally i wouldn't but that is just a personal choice. As a venue i thought it was really nice.

My daughters and I visited Hertford Castle on March 16, 2017. The grounds are very peaceful with nice pathways. The old castle walls, dating back to medieval times, are fantastic. The castle appears to be used primarily for municipal government so we did not see much inside. If it is a nice day, I recommend that you take a stroll through the castle grounds.

We got married here two days ago and it was just perfect! Jacky, Melissa and all the staff we met were wonderful and helped to make our special day, what it was. Nothing was too much trouble and they made us feel our wedding was the most important wedding to happen there. We could not fault a single thing.

If people travelled here expecting to see an actual castle they would be extremely disappointed. It is mainly offices . However , the grounds are very pleasant to walk through or stop with a picnic . Lots of concerts in the summer and very pretty back drop of the castle lit up .

Such a pretty building and background and such lovely helpful people all helped to make the wedding I photographed here a really lovely and special day. The Registrars and team were helpful and professional and there were plenty of interesting areas of the castle and grounds to create beautiful wedding photographs. Highly recommended.

I love the castle park and gardens beautiful at all times of the year. Many boards around the castle giving you all historical information you'll need. Close public toilets. The castle itself has open days for the public and holds many functions it also has a conservatory which grows an assortment of fruit and vegetables that are then preserved and can be purchased at the local tourist information site opposite. It is set near the centre of the beautiful historical town of Hertford has a play area for children and summer house and has open air days such as rock in the castle held every year. You can find all the information for this on the website.

It is superb to have a castle in the middle of the town. The perifal walls are extant and a model of the inner buildings is on show in the Hertford museum. On named days the public can have a guided tour of the mayoral chambers upstairs. Some of the Knights Templar captured on the orders of Phillip the Fair were held in the tower before being taken to the Tower of London.

I had my lunch sitting in the grounds and looking on to the Hertford castle. I noticed that there were joins in the walls surrounding the castle with different brickwork, which suggests there must have been changes, i wondered what they might be.

The castle is owned by the council and used for Civic events but has regular open days throughout the year. Located in the town centre parking close by is difficult so be prepared for a little walk. The grounds of the castle are pleasant gardens where you can see the remaining curtain wall and one gateway. The only real structure remaining from the castles heyday is the large gatehouse with Georgian extension. In side there was an excellent short video giving an overview of the history that was very interesting and acted as a great introduction. The rest of the gatehouse appeared to be council chambers with associated memorabilia. In the basement was a dungeon, garderobe and suits of armour but when I asked the staff if anything was authentic they admitted it was the Georgian wing and was just there for interpretation. There was however a small Georgia kitchen. So other then the exterior, which was unfortunately fronted by a car park there was little of the medieval fabric to see. A pleasant enough setting though if you're in the area.

This building has been heavily remodeled from its former appearance over the centuries. It's not a castle- more like a mansion-and wasn't open to the public when we stopped by today (although a giant banner outside the front gates said it was). The back side of the building is actually the most interesting with Tudor brickwork and the crumbling crest of Edward IV.

Came here today as was open house weekend and knew the castle was open tithe public! Glad we did, lovely to walk around parts of it and see how it was from years ago! Basement is quite spooky! Lots of stalls today with events going on and with the weather being lovely it was very busy! Lovely few hours spent here 😀

The site of the castle can be found in the centre of the town, and today on the grounds of the castle a beautiful house and gardens can be found. There are traces of the original castle around the site, a gate house and curtain walls still remain.
The house is very interesting on the inside, and a collection of articles from the local mayors office are currently on display.
The gardens around the house are beautiful and are nice to wander around. I recommend a visit here.

Not a castle, there are some walls and a mound. Nice park and setting, with the river running through the grounds.

I love architecture and, as I was in Hertford for another appointment, it seemed stupid not to visit. It isn't a real castle, in the accepted sense of the word - at least in my opinion. The property isn't open to the public as it's actually the home of the Council Offices and a prominent Wedding Venue. The gardens are kept well, but don't expect anything stunning or you'll be disappointed. A place for a pleasant stroll and for reading a book in relatively quiet surroundings.
