Everyone knows the Olympics are on this summer in London, but how many of you knw that the 2012 School Games have just got underway?  The competition is one of the few to hold events for able-bodied athletes alongside events for para-athletes, and features 12 current and future Olympic Sports.

And what maybe even fewer of you know, is that one of our very own athletes has been selected to compete at this very high level in her specialist sport.

Ana Gill, one of Heanor Clarion Cycling Club's promising young members was specially selected to partner Lydia Haydon, an elite partially sighted para-cyclist, riding a tandem together in a number of the competitions.

The pair will compete in the tandem Road Race (7th May), the Girls Road Race (7th May), the Tandem Time Trial (8th May), the Tandem Flying 200m and the Tandem Kilometre Time Trail (9th May).

I know you'll join me in wishing them the very best of luck. We'll bring you the results as soon as we get them, or you can follow the action at http://www.2012schoolgames.com.
