about us
Heanor Clarion Cycling Club offers something for everyone, whether you want to ride for fun and friendship or take your sport more seriously, with cycling activities available for all children and adults alike.
Heanor Clarion is a cycling club steeped in history. Originally established in 1934, it took its present form when Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Clarion split in the 1960's. The club has often seen many generations of the same family amongst its membership.
Today it is a vibrant active organisation with over 60 members whose ages range from 6 to 60 and beyond!
Club nights are on Wednesdays at Aldercar School, with winter training indoors on rollers and summer training outdoors.
Sessions cost just £1.50 for members, and £2 or non-members (and 50p for tea/coffee and a biscuit!), with differing levels of yearly club membership available, including Seniors, Juniors, Family and even Social membership.
Ride for fun
Heanor Clarion offers regular rides out around our local area, usually on Sunday mornings, with all rides going at the pace of the slowest rider and including cafe and other stops along the way. Some rides are even set up specifically for beginners - check the Heanor Clarion website for details of when these rides are.
No special equipment is needed, bring your bike, a helmet and a bottle of water.
Go-Ride for kids
Go-Ride is British Cycling's development programme for young people. The programme provides a fun and safe way to introduce young people to bikes and riding, and Heanor Clarion offer Go-Ride sessions every week. You don't even have to join the club to take part, just bring along your bike, a helmet and a drink.
For some it's the start of a lifelong passion for cycling and competition, for others it's just a great way to do something active, meet new people and have fun.
Competitive Riding
For those who want to take it to the next level, Heanor Clarion provides a full structure for training and competing at local, regional and national level. Disciplines are varied and include
· Cyclo-Cross
· Road Racing
· Time Trials
· Circuit-racing (on closed tracks/roads)
The club has qualified coaches working at all levels, and runs additional coaching sessions and trips to facilities such as the Manchester Velodrome etc to help develop youngsters and riders.
