Framlingham 2012 Events Committee have launched a drive to get the whole community involved in an Olympic parade and celebration due to be held at the end of July.

The town also plans to mark The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a tea party on the Market Hill, complete with music and entertainment which should be involve a lot of fun for everyone.  Framlingham held an event on Market Hill to celebrate the Royal Wedding which was a huge success.

Framlingham's own double Olympian and headteacher of Framlingham College, Susan Webber, is among those behind the operation.  Susan won 153 caps playing hockey for her native South Africa, competed at the Sydney Games in 2000 and captained the team four years later in Athens.

Headed by the local business association the Framlingham 2012 Events Committee wants help from companies and community groups to make the celebrations a once in a life time happening.

The Diamond Jubilee Celebration will be held on Tuesday, June 5, with the tea party on the Market Hill, entertainment during the day for youngsters and a 1950s rock ‘n’ roll band for the early evening.

The Olympic parade will be held on Friday, July 27, starting in the early evening from the college with all participating countries represented with a flag.  People can donate £2.50 to be included in the selection process for the parade, which will walk through the bunting and flag-draped town to Market Hill, where a giant TV will screen the opening ceremony in London.

It sounds like Framlingham has fantastic plans to combine two historic British events with some good all-round family fun!
