Having visited in April, I booked a longer stay in the Superior suite (Room 15) as a long weekend break for my wife and I.
The room is fantastic, and the roll top bath is great to unwind in after a day out and about, the bed is massive and probably the most comfy bed I have ever come across in a hotel!
Fresh fruit and bottles of water and fresh orange provided, also fluffy towels and good selection of tea, coffee, and hot chocolate provided!
Room and the rest of the hotel, spotless.
Free car park, it is near impossible to find free parking in Eastbourne, this is a massive bonus!
Free WiFi, and hearty breakfast provided.
Owners go the extra mile to see that you have a good stay with them, nothing appears to be too much trouble!
Will be back!

Booked a one night stay in for a short trip to Eastbourne. The hotel has it's own car park behind the hotel which was very convenient. Our room was spacious and clean (toilet and shower), we even had a 2 seater sofa and chair in the room. Breakfast was very good. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I would go again if in the area. No restaurant in hotel but there are so many restaurants within walking distance of the hotel it doesn't matter. Only short walk to seafront, pier and shops.

Booked a one night stay for a quick wedding anniversary escape. Nice place, no frills. Room was spacious and lovely - superior double (room 28), on 2nd floor with king sized bed, small dressing room, tea and coffee, nice toiletries, very comfortable bed with good linen. All recently decorated. Nice bathroom. Room overlooked the road, was very quiet (apart from seagulls !). Good tv with large range of channels. Breakfast was fine - pretty standard, with buffet cereal, fruit (plus slightly sad-looking huge bowl of tinned fruit), juice, pastries and yoghurt, with a perfectly nice full english cooked to order. Location is excellent - quiet but central, pier less than 5 mins away, along with several decent restaurants. Attentive owners throughout booking process. Would happily stay here again.

We stayed here in a superior double room last weekend. We have stayed in many of the sea front hotels in Eastbourne and the Sheldon is well worth a visit. A small free car park helps as the sea front hotels do not offer this and parking can be xpensive. The room we stayed in was large and comfortable with a good quality TV. Bed was extremely comfortable and there was room for a 2 seater settee and chair. The bathroom was large with a separate shower and bath. Breakfast was very nice in a pleasant room. There is no bar in the hotel but there are ample pubs/bars and restaurants within 5 mins walk. My wife said she would certainly stay here again in preference to most of the seafront hotels and i agree.

We spent a two night stay at The Sheldon. It is in an excellent location two minutes walk from the seafront. There are several restaurants within 5 to 10 minutes walk. We had booked a Superior Double room. We were surprised that as we had gone for a higher quality room it was in the basement with a view of the car park. The room was very spacious with plenty of drawer and cupboard space. However, it lacked character and needed more colour on the walls. A large modern bathroom. Breakfast room was very modern and well equipped. We both enjoyed the breakfast which was served very quickly. Good value place to stay.

Spotlessly clean throughout. Lovely big airy room with very comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast. Excellent warm and friendly service. Private free car park. 5 minute walk to the bottom of the road to the sea 5 minutes to restaurants and 15 minutes to town centre. I took my elderly mum for a 2 night break and we both thoroughly enjoyed the stay. only problem for my mum was the steps leading up to the front door which she found a bit hard and had to hold my arm.
Someone less mobile may struggle. Once inside there is a lift. Not a hotel if you want evening entertainment but perfect for a quiet break.

The Sheldon is a very nice B & B. Ideal location 5-10 minutes away from city centre or beach front. The room was clean, neat and tidy. Serviced every day. On site parking is a big bonus. A very good selection of food for breakfast, cooked well and served quickly. My only concern was that there was no bar. Although it was not far to the nearest watering hole it would have been nice just to pop downstairs for a drink or two. All in all a good place to be.

Having stayed in this hotel for our 14 night summer holidays for the last four years. We arrived in the middle of July for this years stay. We knew the hotel had been taken over ate last year, so obviously were a bit apprehensive as to what to expect as the hotel was going downhill slightly under the previous owners. We were absolutely worried about nothing and have just arrived home from a wonderful relaxing stay. We stayed in the luxury suite (room 15) and received nothing but perfect service from Judith and Sarah (not forgetting the guys in the background). All of the team give a very personal and friendly professional service and we wish them all every success for the future. This hotel is the only hotel we would recommend in Eastbourne and we have stayed in many over the years, next years stay is already booked!

Excellent stay at The Sheldon. Great booking experience - chap on the phone gave loads of information and helpful advice. Perfect location - just off the beaten track but literally a stone's throw from the sea front (although I didn't actually throw any stones) - complimentary parking is a bonus but it must be said the car park is quite tight and as the hotel was full on our stay we did have to do some manoeuvring. I real gold star moment was on check out seeing a staff member move their car so someone with mobility issues could park nearer. Check in was great and had booked two single rooms - both rooms were perfectly fine, though the nicer one (22) was used as a gift and didn't disappoint...nice to see them offer the same stylish offerings to single rooms as they do to couples/double rooms. Excellent in room facilities - good hospitality tray, satellite TV and more than enough space - the only issue here would be to have better curtains in the room - quite light material but that said I don't think you can beat being woken by the sea gulls and fresh smells of being by the sea side. Breakfast was good, it was busy and it took a short while to work out 'how it works' but loved the offering but would have preferred the ordering to go a little smoother. Check out was smooth and they were happy for us to leave our car for an extra hour and use the washroom facilities before heading off. I have to say it was a real find and having walked along the front I couldn't have been happier staying anywhere else - the only thing that would make it five stars is to use some of the sumptuous lounge area for a small residents bar or coffee area and blackout curtains. The staff themselves definitely deserve five stars - from the booking, to check in and throughout the stay. Very friendly B&B, great experience and certainly made our UK overnight stay.

We welcomed on arrival and shown to our rooms with the offer of help to carry luggage. The rooms were spacious and nicely decorated with comfortable but narrow beds in our twin rooms. The bathroom was small but adequate. Breakfast was good and I can recommend the omelettes. The staff were friendly and helpful when we needed directions, supplying us with a map. I booked this hotel as it has a lift and was accompanying my disabled mother. The only problem was the flight of steps to the front door which she managed with difficulty.
The location of the hotel was perfect as it was within easy walking distance (pushing a wheelchair) to the sea front and pier and also the main shopping area. There were a variety of restaurants to choose from for our evening meal.
Eastbourne is a lovely well cared for resort and I would definitely visit again.

Stayed one night and would recommend.
Parking was a must for us with bikes and there was plenty of room.
Room was excellent apart from noisy bathroom fan and no air conditioning. Bed was comfy and big.
No bar - we would stay here again if the hotel had a bar.

three couples staying one night before Newhaven ferry then back after returning from France for one night. Needed an early breakfast on way out and the owners duly obliged. On the way back had a problem with the motorbike and the staff were brilliant, went out of their way to help in any way they could even allowing us to leave our gear in the hotel for a couple of extra hours whilst we went for a wander as the bike battery was re-charging. Rooms clean and plenty large enough and a wide range on breakfast menu. Would certainly look to stay here again

I come from Australia, and I stayed in the Sheldon for 16 nights and I just loved it! The owners Judith and Greg could not have been more friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much for them, Greg even gave me his own parking space as I am disabled. The room was bright and airy, and the bed was wonderfully comfortable. There was an endless supply of coffee and milk supplied in the room, and the shower provided a good supply of hot water. All this plus free Wi Fi! Staff member Sarah greeted everybody with a warm smile as they entered the dining room in the morning, and was very efficient serving up the full English breakfasts which were more than enough to set you up for the day, while staff member Alex was also very friendly, and eager to help you if the need arose. I cannot fault this hotel in any way. If there was a 10 star rating, then I would give it to the Sheldon. I would certainly recommend it to my friends. I do not need to search for accommodation in Eastbourne in the future as I will be heading straight for the Sheldon again. Thank you Judith and Greg for a truly wonderful stay in your hotel!

Three bridge playing friends and myself stayed at the sled on hotel during the weekend at which the English bridge union organises its seniors congress at the winter gardens. It should be emphasised that this review is based upon the accommodation I had, which was an upgrade... I had booked the 'budget double' while my friends were staying in single rooms. However during some email exchanges I learned that my original double had been upgraded to one of their premiere rooms with a roll top bath, shower and a huge double bed. This accommodation was first class and made my stay at the Sheldon first rate. One of its big pluses is the car park - one per room, which is a real bonus in Eastbourne. The breakfast was fine, even if the choices revolved around the usual 'full English'... You could have what you wished within those constraints and an unlimited supply of coffee. We stayed at this hotel last year and we will probably do the same next!

Stayed for two nights while visiting family and booked the Sheldon based on other TripAdvisor reviews. Hotel is in a good location, very close to the seafront and only a 5 minute walk from the centre of town. The hotel has a car park which is useful although on street parking wouldn't have been an issue.
We booked a Superior Double (Room 18) which was a very sizeable room but had a surprisingly small bathroom - some of the bedroom space could quite easily have been sacrificed to give a bigger bathroom. The hotel appears to have been recently refurbished and the style is modern and uncluttered and furnishings were of a good standard. The bed was big and very comfortable. Slight criticism would be the use of Venetian blinds rather than curtains which don't cut out all the light.
Breakfast was very good - decent selection of cold items (although fruit salad was tinned) and the Full English was cooked to order and used very good quality ingredients.
I would certainly consider staying at this hotel again next time I visit Eastbourne.

Warm greeting by owners and staff. Felt a comfortable friendly atmosphere, even before seeing the room, which was a nice surprise when we did see it. Our room had a tea kettle and fresh milk every day. Spacious and very clean, as was the whole hotel and dining room. Free private secure parking on hotel property was a treat. The breakfasts were outstanding and served with a smile. We extended our stay as we enjoyed it so much. No reason to look any further for nice accommodations in Eastbourne. Easy walk to restaurants and shops, Sad to leave, will be back !

Due to a very rainy week in Cornwall I decided last minute to head to Eastbourne and found the Sheldon Hotel. Close to transportation, the beach and the shopping district, this hotel was quite welcoming as compared to my last. I was greeted at reception and escorted to my room via the handy elevator. The room was very clean (albeit a little small) with it's own private bathroom and very quiet. The next morning I went downstairs for the fantastic free breakfast (this really helps if you're on a budget) the consisted of the Full English Breakfast, served on linen tablecloths by two lovely staff people. The day of check out they held my luggage for me so I could do a quick day trip before heading to London.
I absolutely recommend this hotel as for a four-star it is well budgeted, clean and friendly.

Booked a single night en-route to a family wedding.
We had a warm welcome, and had a very nice, spacious room. Clean, well appointed, with a large comfortable bed.
We also had an excellent breakfast .
We won't be looking further than the Sheldon next time we are in Eastbourne.

We visited the Sheldon due to a cycle event in Eastbourne, and were very pleasantly surprised. We were warmly welcomed on arrival, and the decor throughout was clean and contemporary. The room (double ensuite) was not huge, but certainly big enough and had good facilities (good sized wardrobe with hangers, hairdryer, tea and coffee making, soap and shower gel). The only thing we had trouble with was accessing the Wifi (we were on the 2nd floor, and didn't seem to be able to pick it up), although we could pick it up at breakfast. Breakfast was very nice with the usual self-service options and freshly cooked options. We found the hotel very quiet; we slept with the window open all night, and apart from the birds tweeting were not disturbed. It was also extremely convenient that there was parking available, as wherever we went there seemed to be parking meters!
In terms of location, the seafront was at the top of the road, and the town centre a 5-10 minute walk in the other direction. There were plenty of restaurants to choose from as well as coffee shops, pubs and bars.

I booked this hotel to stay whilst working locally in Eastbourne. The room I booked was a single en-suite room. Upon arrival I was very happy to find there was a lift so didn't have to get my luggage up two flights of stairs. The room I was given was of a good size, exceptionally clean and exactly as described. Upon first use of the shower I found that there was no temperature control which was reported to reception who said it would be fixed. The next morning I used the shower again and the problem was still there. The manager apologised and Iw as moved into a beautiful double room 'suite' to apologise for the inconvenience. This rooms was an excellent size with a separate living room and large bed...and the shower worked perfectly. The breakfast was excellent - always cooked fresh and lots of options if you didn't wanted a cooked breakfast.
Overall an excellent hotel and I would happily stay there if I visited Eastbourne again.
P.S sorry for the delay of the review...just got internet in the new flat :)

Booked at very short notice through the internet. Late arrival and early departure - the owner cooked us a lovely English breakfast at 7.30am on a Sunday morning! Would definitely recommend - beautifully decorated, large, clean bedroom and bathroom. Very comfortable bed with expensive bedding. Walking distance to what looked like good restaurants - they were all busy on a Saturday night. Off road, secure parking which is a bonus. Very friendly owners. We will stay again.
