I am a regular visitor to the Grand Hotel in Eastbourne and always choose it because it offers a very realxing and recouperative few days. The service is excellent but not overbearing, the rooms are spacious and well furnished and visits to the Garden Reastaurant or Mirabelle are always rewarding and eagerly anticipated.

The hotel is truly grand, the suite we stayed in was a little dated (201) but it was still very comfortable and best of all our dogs were allowed to stay with us. The dining experience was fabulous, enhanced by exceptional service by the staff. We will be back for a longer visit next time

Beautiful grand hotel, public spaces are fabulous, service is excellent and dining in the Mirabelle restaurant was exceptional and good value. We stayed with our 2 dogs and was supplied with a substantial food package for the dogs- unfortunately our dogs are not very good with change of food so we handed it back. The room was a suit and although a little dated as it had not been refurbished it was still very comfortable and had a fabulous view. All in all it was a great break and we thought great value especially as our dogs could be with us. We will be back for a longer visit

This was a wonderful stay! Extremely clean and went above and beyond to protect the staff and visitors. I would highly recommend the afternoon tea and breakfast! Dinner was also fabulous! I would highly recommend!

The Grand Hotel can only play the cards it's been dealt.
It's an old Victorian building so it must be a nightmare to maintain. However, the building and the public areas are lovely and it has a wonderful feel to it. The staff are all excellent - second to none.

The disappointment was only with the room itself (a fundamentally important part of any hotel stay it's fair to say). The corner room I was in was small and the ceiling cut into it so it felt even smaller to someone over 6 foot. It's easily the smallest 5* room I have ever stayed in. There is no individual shower and the shower fitting over the bath is not high enough for a 6 footer to stand underneath. I do suspect that these rooms were once much bigger and have been partitioned off to be half the size they were when the hotel was built. But then that was in a more opulent time and this is the economics of running a hotel in the 21st century.
Overall, I did have a pleasant stay, but it wasn't 'special',

Great location great room had a big issue first night with dinning hotel knew we were bring young children we were asked to move out of the only restaurant open that night

it was finally sorted we sat in the closed restaurant not happy as hotel knew this was what wwe booked they chose to put us in that restaurant it was only after other guests commented that they were paying for top dinner and did not expect young children in restaurant.

duty manager sorted it out in the end but it was not pleasant experience which could have been totally avoided by talking to us when we arrived and not waiting till it was a issue in the restaurant with other dinners

Grand Hotel lives up to its name, loved the decor. Staff were excellent, very helpful and polite. Food in the garden restaurant was great, we were very happy to see a plant based menu. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable.

Lovely hotel. Exquisite food. Great staff. Easy access and parking. Shower was good, but have had better, perhaps needs some investment there. Great to have a bath though. Need more plug sockets. Beautiful views.

My wife and I enjoyed a weekend away recently and enjoyed The Grand. The staff were very pleasant and amenable. The hotel was comfortable and it was a treat to be able to use the leisure facilities - a booking is necessary.

My girlfriend and I went for afternoon tea for her Birthday (£68 total). The service was excellent. Friendly and attentive staff. Nice atmosphere with the Christmas trees up and piano music playing.

Of the sandwiches, there was only 1 vegetarian option and that was just soft cheese and cucumber (2 small triangles). With all the plant based options these days, it could have been better.

I was also disappointed that the sandwiches were just on normal, sliced loaf bread that you’d get from the supermarket, rather than something more special/ better quality. Think shop pre-packed sandwiches and you’re on the right lines. Elsewhere I’ve had fresh chunky breads. To be honest, I make myself better sandwiches for lunch each day. The scones were lovely and the pastries were nice and very well presented.

The experience was good, the food not so much. I have experienced better afternoon tea for much less than half the price. So... weighing up the nice experience against the average food, was it worth it? Sadly not.

Would give it 4.5 stars, was let down by two, really small things...1) not enough sound insulation in room, were woken up early by other guests in corridor. 2) poached egg yolks were solid...

It's taken a while to get round to writing this review as I wasn't sure whether to or not, however for the price we paid and the level of care that was provided I thought it best to. I have been very lucky to stay in some of the most gorgeous 5 star hotels in the world for work, therefore have a very good understanding of what 5 star service looks like.

My husband and I stayed for two nights (the night prior to our wedding and the night of our wedding). Staff were told when we booked and when we arrived the reason for staying and friends had left a gift card for us for our stay stating it was a wedding present. I must admit, I was expecting at least a note of congratulations from the manager to be waiting for us in our room - the bare minimum that I have received when staying in other 5 star hotels just for work, let alone a time as special as your wedding, it is after all the small things.

On the morning of our wedding we left our room dressed in our wedding attire, walked past several members of staff, spoke to both the front reception and the concierge and none of which even acknowledged the fact that we were very obviously heading to our wedding - women doesn't wear a white dress and veil for no reason.

Multiple guests stopped and congratulated us on our walk through the hotel, even one at check in, in front of the reception staff who still failed to say anything. On our walk to the town hall a woman stopped the car to congratulate us and walking past a coffee shop, everyone outside applauded - it was these acts of kindness and joy that highlighted the lack of acknowledgement from The Grand.

All this aside, I found the room very dark, facilities limited within the room, the pigeons trapped inside the pigeon net cooing constantly and the fact that numerous facilities including restaurants were out of use despite normal prices resuming particularly average. I feel The Grand has a monopoly in Eastbourne due to being the 'most prestigious', however fails to put in the effort as anyone seeking luxury has very few if any other choices at hand for their stay.

We were up-graded, which was a great start. And everything was perfect - from the friendliness of the doorman to the restaurant staff to the leisure facilities. I guess someone is going to say the decor was dated, but actually it was wonderfully appropriate and added to the experience.

We stayed at the Grand for 3 nights with our kids (twins age 11 and teen of 16). We had a suite which included a large room with double bed, an enormous living space with two put-you-up beds for the twins and a small single room for the teen, and a large bathroom. The suite was perfect for us. We had a view over the sea which was lovely. Nice touch in the room was a bowl of fruit, a little carafe of Sherry and some sweets for the kids. They didn’t last long! Beds were really comfortable, perfect feather pillows! Bathroom well stocked with lovely shower gels/shampoos. Hotel was lovely excellently set up for COVID safety, all staff wearing masks, lots of hand sanitizer stations dotted around and in the bar area, the tables were sanitised between people sitting down. All felt very safe. We ate in the main restaurant for breakfasts (which were fabulous, great choices), and we had dinner there one night. I would say a very mild criticism was “don’t try so hard” on the menu - it was good but felt like they just needed to reign it back a bit - if you want fancy, go to the Mirabelle restaurant instead. We did go posh on the last night and it was amazing - great menu, brilliant service. The kids had room service one night and were delighted with it all. Overall, a fabulous hotel, felt like we should have been floating around in long dresses and black tie and having a tea dance which makes it all the more special. Weather was awful but we didn’t mind spending most of our time in the hotel (great cocktail list!). Used the indoor and outdoor pools and the kids loved it. Was freezing and raining but the outdoor pool was like a bath! We will definitely go back.

With a great position on the seafront this hotel is still a grand dame of hotels. The decor maybe a little dated but the service from the people in the hotel is warm and friendly . We stayed for 3 nights in a suite for a family of four which was perfect , only used the restaurant for breakfast which was very good . We went in the pool each day which was nice but could do with a refurb . All in all an excellent stay.

I booked one night in the hotel for me and my 12 year old daughter for a simple school holiday break. The staff was so friendly and helpful and really made us feel welcome. We very much enjoyed the indoor heated pool, the spa, and the dining facilities but it really was the staff that made all the difference. Honestly, haven't experienced such great service in England since we moved here two years ago. I would definitely recommend this hotel to other families and I look forward to returning again soon.

Beautiful facade and downstairs interior, superb breakfast and staff. Rather pricey overall. Rooms clean but decor a little dated and old fashioned. Excellent location for seafront and South Downs walking or cycling.
