this was the first time we have been to the Grand in the Summer. Our booking was delayed several times due to Covid but the Grand kept us updated. We were lucky to have the only Executive Sea View room with a balcony just right as the weather was brilliant. Cannot fault the Grand the ambience and all the staff are excellent. looking forward to returning.

We decided to stay at the Grand Hotel in Eastbourne as a treat for our 30th wedding anniversary.
It was excellent, friendly courteous staff excellent all round service. Wonderful food.
Our only comment would be we would have preferred a firmer mattress.

An imposing building both internally and externally gives it a grand feel. The room and balcony were spacious and pleasant but otherwise unexceptional. Good dinner. It seemed odd that the hotel was unable to seat anywhere near all residents for breakfast at normal times. I missed the breakfast buffets usually on offer in these places not least because the room service = limited choice and cold tea & toast!

Excellent staff, excellent food, excellent facilities. Hope to return for our wedding anniversary each year. Everyone was so courteous and made our stay so enjoyable.
The heated outdoor pool was a real bonus. A truly relaxing break.

We are regular visitors but our first trip this year and first time with friends who had not visited before. We stayed four nights in room 136 from 4th June. As always we had a wonderful time. Service first class as usual. Great breakfast each morning, ate far too much. Enjoyed chilling by the pool for most of the day every day. Pool staff did a great job making sure everyone was comfortable. Enjoyed delicious cocktails in the bar at night. A shame there is no music but hopefully that will be back soon. So many lovely places to eat in Eastbourne and there’s a lovely little deli right behind hotel who will make up great rolls for you if you don’t want to go out for lunch.
Room large and comfortable. We always request a fridge to keep drinks cold and order a bucket of ice every night which always arrives promptly.
Looking forward to going back week after next for another four nights as our Portugal holiday cancelled. Lucky to get booked at short notice with first three nights at their sister hotel Tylney Hall. We have two further summer trips booked for July and August. Can’t imagine we’d ever get bored of the Grand.

As always The Grand lives up,to its reputation for excellence and comfort. The rooms are well appointed and very comfortable, and the staff are attentive and very helpful. The Mirabelle was a real treat, well up,to standard, and we felt thoroughly spoilt and looked after during our stay. We shall be back!

We stayed for 4 nights and there was nothing I would improve. Have stayed several times and this time was even better than previous visits. Excellent service and facilities. Food was a very high standard including a meal at the Mirabelle restaurant which was one of the best we have ever had.

My husband and I stayed at the Grand for 2 nights early June for his birthday treat. We did have a lower grade room as it is very expensive. However it was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was rather dated. I asked for wall bath handles as no walk in shower, these were swiftly provided. Need to take your own shower cap. Doormen very good. I would advised to pre book a car parking space @ £25 per day. Bar and food expensive, but it is a 5* hotel and prices were about normal for this rating. Breakfast was ok, however we did get left for a while on the second day and 3 tables who came in after us were served before us. Tea put on the table too early and was luke warm and stewed. Lovely position opposite the sea. Spa and outside swimming pool which we did not use. Nice garden to have a drink and food in. I would stay here again, but would expect a better service at breakfast time.

We had a truly relaxing break. The staff were excellent and the food was very good. We shall certainly come again and look forward to some evening entertainment. Perhaps a card room will bring people together.

Lovely hotel, the beds were the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in, the pillows and mattress were lovely. Cleanliness of hotel really good and staff very polite and professional.
Breakfast was really nice , lots of choice. My only criticism is duvet was heavy for that time of year, and we could not open windows due to road noise, we had to use the fan provided

Wonderful service. Especially the fantastic doormen. Comfortable and spacious if over priced room (we had a master suite at the front). Food needs modernising as very rich and heavy. Indoor pool was fine but quite claustrophobic - but the outdoor pool is fab and wonderful in sun or rain (changing rooms need updating). Piped piano music made me sad for all the great musicians that could be entertaining folks. Fabulous location. We had a great weekend. Will return.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay except for the slow service at breakfast.

Also it said dogs were allowed but unfortunately nowhere inside the hotel.

I enjoyed my pedicure & also I used the indoor swimming pool- facilities were excellent.

The location was amazing and the hotel looked extremely picturesque. We had dinner at the Mirabelle and was outstanding. All staff were extremely kind and helpful. The pamper treatments did exactly what they are designed to do and only enhanced our stay.

So let’s start with the positive’s as there were many many of them.

The hotel is gorgeous, the grounds, the environment and the staff are incredible. We had such a fun day. My mum and my step dad had their wedding drinks and dinner there. The staff really looked after us and their stay was lovely. They said they slept very well and the room was gorgeous.

Now when it comes to the dinner in the restaurant, there are a few bits I’d like to point out. Now, I know the time we have all had and I know you all need to make money again but the prices were ‘a little’ steep. Especially for the portions we had.

We paid £32 for fillet steak which wasn’t medium rare like I asked for but it was still very tasty, 4 mushrooms, 6 cherry tomatoes and 9 rectangle chips. No greens, no nothing. Which I thought was a bit of a disappointment. The peppercorn sauce was gorgeous.

The Desserts were very nice also, quite imaginative actually in the way it came out. I’d recommend the any of them! J

My mum was quite obviously a bride, staff came over to wish them well which was lovely, but not ONCE was she served first!!! Wine, Water, Food or otherwise? That’s basic etiquette. Then after that the second and only other lady was never served after her. Or even the groom. It happened so much and it really really annoyed me. … I am trying to be fair and not overly critical but coming from 5 star service that I was trained in and been a part of for the last 8 years, it just isn’t correct. We then were given the menu’s for dessert and then had to wait another 35 minutes for someone to come and take our order for them. This really was the last thing and apart from that it was lovely.

This is not somewhere we would normally come but it’s a special occasion and it was just slightly underwhelming.

This hotel is in a fantastic location in the nicer part of Eastbourne, near the Old Town, a beautiful stretch of beach and Beachy Head in walking distance.

Check in was smooth, and our family room was large, nicely appointed and clean with a view towards the sea.

We had breakfast and dinner each day in the Garden Restaurant, and the food was very tasty and beautifully presented.

We used both the indoor and outdoor swimming pools with Pre booked swimming slots, and the facilities were clean and pleasant. The outdoor pool is heated which was great for young children.

A few niggles that keep me from giving this 5 stars:
- the air conditioning fan in our room was helpful but the lack of built in air con meant the room was still a bit warm. But appreciate this is a historic building.
- the service in the restaurant was a little too formal and old fashioned - for example, only certain staff seemed able to take our orders for extra water and drinks, and consequently drinks took a long time to arrive.
- afternoon tea was average - sandwiches were a little stale, and the kids afternoon tea missed the eclairs. The oysters were also missing from our seafood platter in the evening, and replaced with crayfish - which was disappointing.
- parking seemed a bit steep at £25 per day; we parked at zero cost in a nearby residential street

Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel and we would return in future. Thanks to all the staff for their hard work to overcome COVID 19 restrictions and get things up and running again.

We had a lovely elegant experience in this five star hotel. Ideally situated on the sea front of Eastbourne. Just right for an early morning stroll before breakfast. The service was exceptional by the friendly and helpful staff. There is also a good parking facility, which you can reserve.

Lovely hotel in a very good location for town and beach. Will be even better when trainee staff get their act together. Can only have minor niggles due to return from Covid lock down. they will be ironed out over the next few weeks

Staycations will be a godsend to the UK leisure market this year. If, like this tired and miserable place, owners charge a five star price for what is at best a four star product, it will come back to bite them in the future. Think THF circa 1975, with bathrooms, colour schemes, furniture and carpets to match. And we apparently had a modernised room! I could go on but I see little point. Management will no doubt argue that they cannot do more with a listed building. Let them look at how the Balmoral in Edinburgh managed it or, if that is too smart for their market, the newly refurbished bedrooms at the Scotsman, opposite. The UK has some wonderful listed hotels that have made the transition from faded glory to a new and relevant life in the 21st century. This is not one of them.
