We thought we would treat ourselves to afternoon tea at the Grand having been told we must do by friends who had a few years ago.
Unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations especially considering the price of £34.50pp. We have had much better teas for half the price. The waitresses, although very pleasant and helpful had not been trained properly and didn't know how to make a pot of tea, adding hot water to our cups instead of the pot. The food could have been better, nothing special.

We had a lovely stay at The Grand in a suite with balcony and sea view. We were a little Surprised there was no mini fridge in the room although there was a very good room service menu on offer which we didn’t try. Unfortunately the mattress on the bed was far too soft for us but Everything else was very good. We had dinner in the Garden restaurant on 2 nights which was very nice but it is a very traditional set up. If you want less formal there is a menu in the lounge. Breakfast each morning was superb. Plenty of choice from the buffet with fresh fruit, cereals, juice, continental, yogurts, pastries and bread, plus a menu of cooked breakfasts. We also tried the afternoon tea which was nicely served in the lounge. Service was excellent in every respect. We didn’t pre book or pay for onsite parking as felt that £25 per day was expensive when staying for 5 days. We were staying mid week and it wasn’t a problem Monday or Tuesday but by Wednesday the car park was very busy. We just about managed to find a space but at busy times it is necessary to book. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The hotel may be a bit run down here and there but you will not get better service and hospitality in the area. Staff is exceptional, they know what they are doing and that’s why you want to stay at The Grand. Good things to know: hotel gym is fairly well equipped with cardio equipment as well as some free weights (unusual). There are both indoor and outdoor pools. The latter with the drink service available. Exquisite wine selection at all bars and restaurants. The Garden Restaurant is now known as The Mirabelle and offers fantastic fine dining experience. Breakfast selection is ok with cold buffet and cooked breakfast available. Whether it’s a special occasion or a break away I will come back there. Note that some of the rooms are being renovated so there may be some noise should you decide to spend your day in your hotel room.

Extremely pleasant stay. Fantastic setting and so convenient for getting around. The staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. We had asked for a room with a walk in shower, and this is what we got. Wonderful bed, quality towels and toiletries. Breakfast service fast, and cooked breakfast all you could ask for. Loved the heated outdoor pool!

The hotel “in the day” was very grand indeed but is pretty tired now. Concierge were very nice and welcoming as were the reception staff. Our room was ok but nothing spectacular for a five star hotel. Our bathroom was very dated and the shower kept going from hot to cold, no consistency, the floor when wet is very very slippery indeed. The shower screen was pretty useless to be honest. The wardrobe doors would not close properly and kept opening. You had to ensure the wardrobe doors were held shut so that you could open the bathroom door to enter and then shut the bathroom door to be able to get to the sink. The hotel needs the Alex Polizzi touch frankly. At breakfast four times we told them we did not want eggs on our avocados and when it arrived one arrived with eggs on. It was served on olive bread and the waitress obviously did not know the menu as she kept asking whether we wanted our avocado on brown or white toast. When we had drinks in the bar before dinner I specifically requested NO ICE with my drink and she repeated back to me three times no ice. My drink came with ice so had to be returned. The good is that we ate at the Mirabelle Resturant and although we were kept waiting for more than 6 minutes at the entrance of the restaurant before we were asked our name and taken to our table. However the food, ambience and decor of this restaurant was truly excellent. The bread, the amuse-bouche, our scallop starter and gnocchi was really superb.

Lovely and charming. Dated and needs an update but it doesn’t really take away from its charm. Food is excellent at the Mirabelle. Pleasantly surprised

Before I let you know.Yes it was expensive.Yes we had special guests staying as it was Tennis Week. With that over I would like to say we had a great 3 nights stay for my Wife Birthday.Friday 17th June until Monday 20th June. The staff were exemplary. They kept our Car Space when we went out.And greeted us overtime we came in.Only one hiccup.Anew waitress wrote down what we ordered but never put it through. We waited for 40mins for our food and drink. When we asked about this they were mortified. They wouldn't let us pay for the evening food & drink.People will say "it's alright for you ?,you have the money."But I'll say this once in a lifetime you get what you pay for.Well done the Grand.

Fabulous service and extremely helpful staff. I would particularly like to call out Reece from the Concierge who was so helpful with our parking and luggage. He is a credit to your hotel.
The public areas of the hotel are very well maintained. Whilst our room was large, some of the furniture was a little dilapidated and the bathroom should really be upgraded, although it was very clean.
Having said that, we had a wonderful stay and will return for afternoon tea in July.

We had a short 3 day break over Jubilee Weekend - Executive Room (237) - worked out a tad over £500 per night including breakfast, dinner, wine. Stayed here on previous occasions but this time The Grand fell a little short of our previous visits. The room was spacious and clean - but the shower was a tad cranky/sensitive to holding a decent temperature - small adjustments of the lever caused big variations in temperature.

The food was good - but the ambience of The Garden Restaurant (at dinner) was not great - The Mirabelle Restaurant is more relaxing.

The bar service was varied - generally good - but sparser as the evening wore on. At 20:45 in the lounge we were comfortably seated and drinking but then rather rudely“moved on by the bell-hop as he needed to lift the carpet for the dance floor” - despite the band not striking up for another 45 minutes. Usually in a good establishment the bar staff would have lifted our drinks on a tray and reseated up - not so at The Grand - the bell-hop clearly rules the roost.

The parking was difficult - many slots in the grounds are pre-reserved (for a fee) - we used roadside parking for free at St John’s Road about a 10 minute walk away - only to be told at check-out that the doorman should have given us local authority permit for parking in the road directly outside - neither well advertised I have to say; nor mentioned on their website.

Overall we did enjoy our stay but unlikely to return until they sharpen their act.

Outstanding hotel, amazing room and very helpful staff.

I was very lucky and was upgraded. The room was junior suite and was amazing and with a side sea view.

The breakfast was brilliant and service was very professional.

When you stay you must visit the spa and indoor pool. The outdoor pool is also heated and very nice.

The cocktails were very well prices and the bar service was professional.

Just take some to walk around the hotel and explore and enjoy the decor inside and out

Amazing place to stay, great architecture and such a grand place to reside. The food was amazing and the service was very professional and five star.
The room was upgraded and was clean, fresh and massive. The spa and pool facilities whilst slightly aged were clean and nice to.use.
I love the fact you check out and have free run of all the hotels facilities. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
The concierges were professional, polite and the car parking service second to none..The parking is limited but if you need to park outside the hotel give you the parking ticket.
Every little detail was thought about. This fine hotel is part of the Elite hotel group. This is the third one we have stayed in and they are all brilliant.
Outstanding stay.

An absolutely amazing stay at this really wonderful and classy hotel. The facilities were brilliant, the staff are so friendly and professional and nothing is too much for them. The concierges were so helpful and kind especially James (Jim), Chris, Cole and Reece. The Spa centre staff were awesome, Angela, Alice and Emily. We were in room 234 and the views and room layout for our family were just amazing.

Overnight stay and visited the spa for some treatments.
The hotel decor wasn't really to my taste. Seemed quite old fashioned but that's my opinion.
It's really clean and all of staff were really nice.
The spa was really good
Had breakfast in the morning which average, coffee was not great ☹️
I wish the shower was adjustable in the room as I couldn't fit under it (5'11)

Old 5 stars hotel. Nice, impressive...everything good...the food amassing. We stayed for 2 nights only in a massive master ensuite but you can see everything is old...very old still nice as vintage but not that 5 stars you expect. The bathroom toilet reservoir was very noisy after you flush the water...anyway overall was a nice and relax stay we enjoyed every moments.

My daughter and I attended the Platinum Jubilee Indoor Street Party yesterday and enjoyed every moment. The room was beautifully decorated and very festive. The Jazz band gave it a retro feeling as did the delicious food. The staff were all very pleasant and attentive.
A truly memorable occasion!

Had a few issues with service, our starters were given to the table next to us, breakfast service was slow and our room service breakfast had things missing. Our suite was very nice and the hotel is well located. I had a very nice treatment in the spa.
