I booked this restaurant as there were lots of vegan and gluten free options and the food was advertised as authentic. Me and my husband were not disappointed the food and service was amazing !
Very friendly service and so impressed with the gluten free and vegan options. The authentic Kerala cuisine was delicious the flavours and spices were perfect. It was so nice to go out and eat healthy too! Definitely can’t wait to go back and try the other vegan and gluten free options very soon.They also do a lunch offer for £6.95 which I’ll be trying too.

We were last at the Malayalam for lunch in September 2020, had intended to come back sooner and finally made it on Friday evening with some friends. Fortunately we had booked a table (even though we were eating early at 6 pm) which is definitely a good idea as it quickly filled up and some people were turned away at the door.
For starters two of us shared the Palakkadan Dosa, two others shared the Kerala Puffs whilst the other one had the Masala Dosa. For main two of us had Kozhikodan Dum Biriyani (chicken), one had the special Aadu Kizhi Biriyani (lamb in banana leaf) and the other two had Kallunkal Kurumulagu Kozhi (chicken curry). Only 2 of our party had space for dessert and chose ice cream.All of the food was delicious, beautifully presented and good sized portions. Very good value for money too considering the attention to detail and quality of the food. It was great to enjoy traditional South Indian food and the dosa is really delicious. The biriyani is cooked the South Indian way and so tasty.
All of the staff are very friendly and welcoming.In order to avoid disappointment it is definitely worth booking in advance.
We will not leave it so long until we are back again - probably choosing lunchtime so that we can enjoy their special lunchtime platter.Thank you for a very enjoyable evening.

We’d pre-booked the table about a week in advance and were so glad we did as even on a Tuesday evening, the restaurant was really quite busy.
We’ve been to Kerala in India a few times, so our expectations of a nice meal were quite high, although we were trying to manage our expectations down a bit…..just in case. We needn’t have worried, as the food and service was excellent throughout. Really tasty food and a nice atmosphere. We had a spicy dosa and a prawn starter, followed by fish in banana leaf dish together with a superb lamb and spinach dish. Altogether a great dining experience and certainly with some memories of authentic Keralan cuisine, given it is targeted at a generally British customer base in Eastbourne.
I just wish it was nearer to where we live, as I’d be happy to work my way through the whole menu. Will definitely return when next in the area.

Fantastic quality of food. Best biriyani i have ever had, great atmosphere and lovely staff.

The food was really tasty and beautifully presented. We both had lamb wrapped in a vine leaf and served with two mini poppadoms with a little bowl of yoghurt and another of delicious lime pickle. The service was excellent and the restaurant very pretty. There were so many interesting choices on the menu that we will definitely be back

Visiting Eastbourne I was keen to try Keralan food again having worked there for a while in the 80s. Lovely authentic food, great flavours and service. If I lived here I would certainly be going back.

Just a few lines to thank you so much for the wonderful meal on Saturday night celebrating my birthday with my friends.We have been to Kerala and are familiar with authentic Kerala cuisine. MALAYALAM has done justice to that and claps to the team.
Extremely high standard of Kerala cuisine, coupled with great restaurant atmosphere. Very courteous and happy staff. A real pleasure. All friends very impressed. I will return.

Have been wanting to try it out for a long time and it did not disappoint. Excellent lunch savers menu; with a wide array of taste chutneys, curries, rice and scrumptious masala dosa. Nice atmosphere, prompt service and very interesting menu, which deserves to be explored. Looking forward to my next visit. It won´t be long.
