I needed a venue that would cater for my gluten-free wife and would accomodate our dog.
A review of the on-line menu and the excellent reviews confirmed the first, but an on-line enquiry to the restaurant of the second produced the answer "guide dogs only".Having noted that outside seating was available, we decided to risk it with our well-behaved dog and sat outside.
I needn't have worried. My wife said that her meal of Uzhunnu Vada Rice & Lentil Doughnuts followed by Malayali Erachi Curry and accompanied by Palappam rice bread was the tastiest Indian meal that she had ever eaten.
I had the Kerala Egg Roast followed by the Kadapuram Seafood Curry with Palappam.Delicious!
I had eaten South Indian food before, but not Keralan. This is so different from the run of the mill "curry house" fare usually available and is absolutely delightful. The very pleasant waitress subsequently confirmed that well-behaved dogs are indeed welcome in the outside seating area.
A winner all round!

We went here during the bank holiday weekend in Aug this year. I'm very familiar with kerala cuisine and the dishes served at this restaurant were very authentic and tasty. Staff were also polite and friendly. Definitely worth a visit!
We ordered 3 non-alcoholic drinks, a starter and 3 mains, and the bill came up to about 50£.

We had lunch and chose lentil doughnuts with dips followed by aubergine and tomato curry, mushroom and potato curry, lemon rice and a rice based bread. They were all made with fresh ingredients and the flavours were amazing. The fish dishes sounded just as good, we will try them next time!!

I lived and worked in Kerala and ate home cooked Keralan food whilst I stayed there.
Last night we managed to get a table at Malayalam and it was wonderful eating Keralan food again of such high quality!
We had the special lamb biryani cooked in banana leaf, Keralan Kayar Paratha and Vazhuthananga Thakkalli - all were absolutely delicious.
If you’re interested in trying the delicious regional cooking of Kerala, I haven’t found a better restaurant since leaving India and thoroughly recommend. We will definitely be back.

Everything about this was great. I arrived on spec, close to the time when they stopped serving, but I was shown to a table nonetheless. My Malabar coastal chicken curry was incredibly good, served with perfect basmati rice. Never tried Malaysian food? Start here!

Fantastic traditional food freshly made to order from older family recipes. Friendly staff, reasonable prices, worth every penny plus tips. Highly recommended, will definitely go back there when I'm next in Eastbourne.

Great food for both vegan and meaty options. Reasonably priced and great service, if in Eastbourne and fancy an Indian look no further!

Really really good food and experience. The service was extremely good with very friendly and caring staff. The food actually is much closer to Kerala cuisine than most similar places I have sampled in the UK. The location, decor and overall ambience is really good. One small criticism is about the drinks list - I think a slightly wider selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will make this place really perfect. It is slightly on the expensive side - 2 of us with quite massive appetites went through 1 starter, 3 mains and 3 non alcoholic drinks and spent around 60 odd quid. Definitely recommend!!

I spent a few days in Eastbourne as a holiday after last two years having been very restricted. To make it more enjoyable I carefully research which restaurants to visit beforehand. I chose Malayalam partly because we enjoy the food and mainly because I was with a Sri Lankan lady who likes to be able to wear a saree sometimes. So we are familiar with Kerala, Tamil and Sri Lankan restaurants.
The restaurant is fairly large with a pleasant outdoor seating area with electric heaters which is where we sat. It is nicely decorated and set out without being too closely spaced.
The food has quite a good variety of dishes and many are their own creations. I like Masala Dosa but would suggest they offer this with a chicken or meat content as well as the basic potato version. I would have liked a larger coconut chutney serving though. We had several dishes and enjoyed all of them.
I was very worried that most of the evening they were turning many unbooked people away while a lot of tables were empty. It seemed that they were worried their kitchen would not be able to keep up. Staff shortages are a problem across all of the industry since Covid. But the busy three month summer season has to maintain them through the winter and I want it to still be open next year.
Their web is quite good but does not have the wine list and prices on it. So a week before I emailed for details but did not receive any reply. So after a couple of days I sent another email but still no reply. I felt that was rather disappointing but I still came to eat there.

Lovely friendly restaurant, with very attentive informative staff. The food was out of this world. Such a refreshing taste of regional Indian cuisine. A must 'go to' place when in Eastbourne. We asked for the chef's recommendations and we were not disappointed.

Saturday 28th. Me and my partner came for the first time. Not names I recognised from usual Asian food so felt like we were trying something new. It did not disappoint. The two starters and mains were beautiful and full of flavour. Service was fast and price reasonable. Staff were polite and attentive but not over bearing. We will be back and will be getting a take away from here on Tuesday for my partner's birthday and we will visit again. This end of terminus road has some lovely restaurants would be nice to see the road pedestrianised so the bars and restaurants can have more out door space and give it a continental feel. Thanks to the chefs and staff.

This was our second visit and both have been very good. The first time we had the set lunch and my husband and I were both very pleased. There was plenty of delicious food and it was good value. The second time we ate from the a la carte menu. And we’re equally happy. My biryani was excellent and my husband loved his fish stew. Nothing was too much trouble for our waiter, Stanly, who was very helpful and friendly. We will definitely return.

Visited with friends who are new to Eastbourne. The food is authentic and so tasty. New dishes have been added, and the service continues to be all you would expect. We went in the evening, but have also gone at lunchtime when the excellent thali, served with a dosa, is a must!
