Herstmonceux Castle is a brick-built castle, dating from the 15th century, near Herstmonceux, East Sussex, England. It is one of the oldest significant brick buildings still standing in England. The castle was renowned for being one of the first buildings to use that material in England, and was built using bricks taken from the local clay, by builders from Flanders. It dates from 1441. Construction began under the then-owner, Sir Roger Fiennes and then, from his death in 1449, by his son, Lord Dacre. The parks and gardens of Herstmonceux Castle and Place are Grade II* listed on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens. Other listed structures on the Herstmonceux estate include the Grade II listed walled garden to the north of the castle, and the Grade II* listed telescopes and workshops of the Herstmonceux Science Centre.

Really great for people interested in space with the science centre. School trips run regularly on weekdays. Very pretty grounds to the castle. Staff are very keen, knowledgable and helpful. Worth seeing

Krásný hrad podobný Bodiam, jen v zachovalejším stavu. Vstupné 6 GBP, ale dostanete se pouze kolem hradu a do zahrad, pokud chcete vidět vnitřní části hradu, musíte si přikoupit za 3 GBP komentovanou prohlídku (cca 45 minuty), občas je třeba rezervace, jelikož kapacity jsou vyprodané. U hradu drobné občerstvení a toalety zdarma. Parkován na zeleni hned u hradu zdarma. Za hradem krásná zahrada a možnost cca 45 minutové procházky parkem v okolí. V areálu také The Observatory Science Centre, kam si můžete též koupit vstup.

The castle was closed on the day we visited, however it was a beautiful day and the gardens were stunning. You can easily spend a few hours exploring the different areas then sit down for a sandwich and coffee in the cafe.

Accessing the castle seemed to be almost as difficult as trying to invade it. Roads all around closed with little extra signage to help navigate to it, with not much support coming from the website itself. Having then added a further 30 mins to our journey we missed the last of the 2 daily tours which was disappointing. We did have access to the grounds and gardens for £6 which took us a little over an hour to wander round. I can't comment on the castle itself but it did look rather grand from the outside, maybe we will try again another time.

Beautiful grounds. We walked around in about 1hr 45mins. Shame the castle wasn't in use and rain. Love the wild areas alongside carefully manicured gardens. Peacock was also a nice surprised. Well worth a visit.

Grounds&Garden sind wirklich sehr schön. Drinnen gibt es nichts besonderes. Die Führung durch die nette Lady der Bäder Foundation war sehr nett.
