Nice gardens. Walk out to the folly it's not far and there is a nice lake there. No access to the house and peacocks will try to share your lunch

We visited the castle for a medieval weekend on the August bank holiday Monday. WOW! Jousting, knights fighting, castle sieges, lots to do and lots to see. We took a picnic and sat watching the jousting. If you get to the arena early enough there were chairs to sit on. We spent some cash on Medieval honey, OMG it is fantastic, and my wife bought costumes for next years event. We will definitely be going again next year and hope to encourage the rest of our family to come too. A great day out for young and old alike.

The oldest red brick castle in England: need I say more? No. It's self-explanatory. You show up, you have a potter, you look at the gardens, you think to yourself "Wow, what must've it been like to be the owner of such a place and to have subsequently died at the supple age of 52 with gout?!".

Second trip to Herstmonceux, attended the medieval weekend. It was such a cool event! Loved the jousting. Can't believe there were actual wolves there! It was a nice warm day but a lot of people made the effort to get dressed up and I loved the atmosphere it created. It was magical. Missed out on the theatre and plays but looking forward to catching that next year. Perfect gardens as usual. More flowers at this time of year. August is probably the best month to attend

The castle was closed during our visit (pandemic to blame). However, the grounds are magnificent and family-friendly.

Beautiful castle and gardens! The gardens are well maintained and have lots of places to sit and admire the amazing views. Tea rooms have seating overlooking the castle. There is a small visitor centre which explains some of the history of the castle.

Beautiful grounds with a mix of well maintained and stunning formal gardens (we especially liked the butterfly garden, which is packed with plants that attract all kinds of butterflies and bees) along with extensive woodland and parkland. A quiet, tranquil and peaceful place to connect with nature in the shadow of an spectacular castle.
