Great piece of English history a few hundred yards from my hotel door

Last year the pier caught fire so the place is slowly being rebuilt and rejuvenated .... quite exciting to see this historic icon flourish again

We took a stroll down the pier on our first day in Eastbourne, it was pretty windy but very mild and we thoroughly enjoyed spending some time enjoying the views. Even off season most of the shops were open and were fun to visit. Well worth a visit

Took a stroll on Eastbourne Pier. Nothing open due to end of season. Very very windy but it's what we love about Piers. Too stroll over the Sea and walk as far out as you can go. Not sure why we love Piers but we do. A must for any seaside visit, just has to be done

We enjoyed a walk along this newly restored pier, it wasn't quite finished when we were in Eastbourne last year. It was very very windy and the seas were extremely rough which I love as long as l'm not on it! Being the beginning of December not much was open

Sad fire b4. Hopeful better fix.
I miss old one Eastbourne pier. Play game, play kids, bowling, night club, sweet, fishing, nice view building.

Typical pier with fairground at the end but a pleasant walk to the end. People were fishing on there but nothing much open ,except the fairground, but it was out of season.

As an Eastbourner, I am so gutted I don't have any recent photos of the pier before it went up in flames.
Anyway, it is still under renovation and Thankfully the part at the end was not affected by the fire.
I just wish it would get renovated soon, hopefully by next year but that's just being to wishful.

My hotel room overlooked the pier and I visited it one bracing November day. Since it was out of season nothing was open on the pier but it is a fine piece of Victorian engineering and the ability to walk out over the sea brought back many childhood memories.

We had a little walk along the very short pier well stopping in Eastbourne.
Could do with a lot of work doing to it.
Only a few shops at the beginning of the pier a little coffee shop in the middle and a night club at the end that's it.. could do with adding a few more bits to it to be honest.. was a nice little walk to past half hour away.

Very nice place. Sadly the front part has burned down, but the wooden surface was luckily rebuilt.

Good to see the pier restored - well done Eastbourne Council. Large area of space free of gambling slot machines to be commended - hope it stays that way

We visited at 17.00 and the place was empty. It was really dark so you had to be careful where you walked the Victorian tea rooms were completely empty, no surprise as it lived up to its name, very dated. If you want to go to a night club then visit here if not don't bother.

A great example of a seaside pier , there is food and drink available on the pier. There is some restoration work being carried out but it doesn't detract from the experience

Went for a stroll before dinner . A fantastic piece of Victorian architecture at its finest. A must visit even in the evening. They had great music playing over the sound system

Well worth a visit on the pier is the Victorian Tearoom which serves a delicious Cream Tea of scones, jam and cream plus tea brewed from tea leafs and not from a teabag! Spoil yourself.

Now reopened after the fire. Much tidier and less seedy. Better catering. Nice upgrade to the seafront.

With most of the refurbishment now completed it is great to stroll along the pier. The shops were mainly closed as it was the end of the season, but the glass shop is well worth a visit.
It was very eerie in the fog and Eastbourne was out there somewhere.

Beautiful pier, once they finish the work it will be amazing. The fish and chips at the pier entrance is a must. Nice shops to visit. Watch the fishermen at the end of the pier fishing. Just a fab place.

Abid Gulzar, a local hotel owner, has taken over the pier and is promising all sorts of exciting things for it....painting it gold and covering it with fairy lights to mention but two.
There are also plans afoot for large boats to be able to dock at the end of the pier!!
I do hope mr Gulzar does as he promises and turns Eastbourne Pier into the best in the country. Currently he is asking local people for any ideas they may have to realise this ambition. As it stands right now it is lovel to stroll around and take the sea air but that's about it. The entrance is a bit of a cluttered mess usually has loads of young foreign students standing around blocking the way. The Victorian tearoom is a very interesting place to visit, take in the view and enjoy some light refreshment.

My wife and I "strolled down memory lane" as we walked on the Eastbourne Pier. Our previous visit was 30 years ago when I was on active duty with the United States Air Force and we toured with our three daughters. I brought a photo taken with the kids and had a person walking by duplicate the picture with just my wife and I. Sadly, the pier is not original due to a fire; however, extensive renovation currently underway will return this Eastbourne Icon to its glory. A walk on the Eastbourne Pier is a comforting reminder of yesteryear as well as renewed confidence in the future. Enjoy!
