We visited for a line dance weekend organised by our local class teachers. We had a room with a view of the sea - overloooking the bandstand. It wasn’t a large room but it was clean and ok for a weekend. The hotel has a good lounge area. The meals were good - a good choice for both breakfast and dinner. All the staff were very pleasant and polite. The function room is downstairs and the only drawback was it was a really warm weekend and we couldn’t open any windows so it was very hot and stuffy which made it uncomfortable for dancing. The hotel is in a very good location. The town is just behind the hotel and the buses just over the road. There is no parking at the hotel but you can purchase a ticket for £1 per day which is displayed in your car for 24 hours when you have found a parking space. We weren’t too far away from the hotel.

My husband and I visited Eastbourne last Saturday with a group we belong to. Afternoon tea at this hotel had been pre booked for all of us, a party of about 50 people. The staff were friendly and helpful and provided good service. There was plenty of tea and coffee in pots to share. We had 2 fruit scones each (there were plain ones if you preferred) with jam and clotted cream. The hotel overlooks the seafront so we had lovely views in the sunshine across the Channel whilst enjoying our afternoon teas.

Hotel is in a great location on weekends you can watch and listen to the shows from the sea front theatre if you have a sea view or listen from the hotel front.
The hotel is little tired and needs a bit of TLC.
Our room was fine the bathroom was ok small but ok the bar area was ok but very busy.

This is an older hotel on the promenade. We had a room with sea views which were stunning both in the evening and at dawn. Room was comfortable and quite large. Unfortunately the walls are paperthin and the family next door kept us awake until very late.

A BIG thank you to the team at the Cumberland Hotel for their help to
make my event #AskTheExpert a success. I stayed the night so I could get set up to make things easier for me little did I know just how amazing the view was from the hotel rooms. My room was comfortable and everything I could have needed for a good nights sleep.

Stayed here as part of a coach tour, hotel was clean and well furnished, fantastic location on the seafront, I was on the first floor overlooking a rooftop with dead flies and mould/mildrew. Room was well equipped though the green bedding covers could be changed for something brighter! I feel my room definitely needs upgrading, carpet was ripped and furnishings didn't match. Food was fantastic for dinner and breakfast and staff were friendly. Would stay again but maybe ask for sea view room.

We stayed here for the first time over the May Bank holiday weekend and although some of the hotel rooms could do with renovation (paint chipping in bathroom, and bathroom window wouldn’t open) it was clean and the location was great, on the seafront, 10 min walk from the Pier. The room was very warm which I dislike, especially as the temperature was 27c, so I asked if a fan might be available and one was brought to me which I was grateful for as it cooled the room down.
For breakfast, Hot coffee and tea are brought to your table when you’ve been seated, then you can get up and have Cereal or a Cooked breakfast which was good and if a selection of pastries was available, it’d have been even better.
At the bar, I ordered a gin and tonic and asked for ice and lemon with it, but I was told no ice was available and no explanation was given which I thought was a bit odd for a hotel bar but sgain, I didn’t complain.
We’d asked if a later checkout was available (checkout is 10 a.m.) and were told no, which was also a slight disappointment, as a bit later checkout would have helped us, but we understand sometimes it’s not possible and we didn’t complain.
Overall, we would stay at The Cumberland hotel again and hope my feedback helps them?

We have just returned from 4 nights at the Cumberland and we have no complaints at all. We paid extra for the upgrade to a seaview room with balcony and it was worth every penny. The room and bathroom have recently been refurbished and they were extremely clean, of a good size and very pleasant. New mattress, lovely curtains etc.etc. The floorboards were creaky but this is normal for a building of this age. The staff were friendly and efficient. The buffet breakfast had everything you could want. The 3 course evening meals had a good choice, they were hot and plenty of it. We will go again.

Twenty of us stayed for 5 days and whilst the food and restaurant service was very good this could not be said for the reception staff, some of whom were not very helpful. Bingo every night....no thank you! If you didn't want to play there was nowhere else to sit and chat as the hotel would not let us have access to the ballroom. The adjoining enclosed patio was cold. Any possibility of dancing was difficult on carpets and around lounge furniture. Entertainment really poor. Rooms good for most of us, one or two people had issues about cleanliness. No return visit I'm afraid.

This was a Skills Easter Holiday Weekend Holiday.
My wife and I booked this Easter Holiday weekend away. Can't really complain for the price. The Hotel was ok. There was room for improvement. But to be honest i don't know how these hotels exist in the current conditions. It is cheaper to book a holiday abroad for the same price.
Anyway having said that, it was a very nice break. The hotel was ok. Nothing special. But acceptable. The waiting staff were very good. We were lucky enough too served by a lovely polish girl whose name ,if I remember rightly, was Magda. a very helpful and charming young lady.
We didn't have any real reason to complain about the hotel. Although the bar prices were rather high, a lot of guests went out to find cheaper establishments.
Maybe if the hotel lowered the prices they would keep more guests in.
Anyway the place was clean and tidy and there was a good choice on the menu. Although I am at a lost as to how ratatouille can be classed as a seasonal vegetable.
All in all a happy stay.

Just got home from a 4 night break at the Cumberland. Everyone was very welcoming, and nothing seemed to be too much trouble the the staff. Well done. The hotel was very grand and all the mains traditional areas were beautifully decorated and maintained..I suppose creaking floorboard are part of an hotel of this age!

The hotel was clean and tidy. the staff were very obliging. We had 3 days entertainment out of 4. The food was excellent with quick service.
However the room security needs upgrading to card entry (Where activity can be recorded) There was nowhere to hang Do not disturb cards.
The most disappointing aspect was that for long periods during the night there was machinery noise from outside making it very difficult to sleep. We were in room 101
Overall though it was good value for money.

From the time of booking The staff in this hotel have been extremely helpful and professional. The location of the hotel is great right on the seafront. My room is excellent with a balcony and fantastic sea views. I’ve booked a single room however I have a double bed and plenty of space in the room. The food is fine and offers really good value for the price I paid.

We just had the loveliest afternoon tea for Mother's Day! We had a complimentary glass of bubbly on arrival (a gift for the mums) and there was a box of malteasers on the table too as a little Mother's Day treat.
We had the Cumberland Afternoon tea and it was wonderful. Really tasty sandwiches, scones with cream and jam, fresh fruit and a selection of cakes. The service was fantastic and all the tables around us were also commenting on how lovely it was in the sun lounge. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, we had such a great time - would definitely recommend!

Just back from a weekend line dance trip to the Cumberland. The service is by far the best thing about the hotel - nothing was too much trouble. In the extreme cold weather of last week it was understandable the rooms were not that warm at first but they tried their best to sort it out. I recommend you take bed socks! As part of a group we had dinner B&B the food was not fancy but was well cooked and varied. The waiting staff were very attentive and helpful. There is a lift to all floors but there can be a bit of a wait for it. There is a lovely conservatory type room to the front of the hotel overlooking the beach. There are plenty of nearby shops and the pier a short stroll away. Plenty of local buses too. Room 106 is great and has a balcony (shared) with fantastic views but don't leave the door open as the seagulls are not far away!

Stayed for three nights at the Cumberland as part of a coach party. The hotel has an enviable sea front location opposite the bandstand and close to the pier and shops. It is a grand old hotel which is being kept to a reasonable standard. Perhaps a bit of TLC is needed here and there. Our sea view room, which was of a good size, had recently been refurbished to a moderate standard. It was kept spotlessly clean. The bathroom had not been recently updated but was totally acceptable . Staff were friendly and generally efficient. Breakfast was good. Dinner offered a good choice each night. It was nicely cooked and presented. The nightly musical entertainment was variable. On one night it was very good, the next it was poor and on the last it was cancelled. Our holiday was very good value for money and I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. Clearly it is not an upmarket hotel but it is comfortable and in a lovely location.

Dinner over by 7.30 pm - sales of bingo tickets begins. Entertainments manager chats with each buyer - two hours later the game starts! Meanwhile the singer/group etc are waiting around on stage! By this time guests are so bored - many disappear to their rooms or where-ever! Take note of Hotel just departed from = tickets sold in afternoon & early evening. Bingo (incl. many games with large prizes) starts at 7.30 pm & ends at 8 pm = BRILLIANT - good time had by all!!

Our group returned to the Cumberland for another holiday over the New Year . and we were very happy with our stay. My room was great (415)and had a lovely view of the beach. Lots of cupboard space and angers for clothes. Well decorated and very clean and well stocked with tea coffee and biscuits. Entertainment and dancing every night, by a very hard working gentleman, who seemed to be there all day too, and did the bingo and horse racing which was fun. I would say he went far beyond his duty., and could have done with help a few times. In fact, (and I know it was New Year) All the staff were dashing around working their socks off. and a few more staff would have made life much better for them. But I was told there were new owners, and maybe they didn't realize how rushed staff were. Great choice of meals, and a lift to all floors. But flight of steps up to the reception might cause problem for some.

We were a family of eleven for Boxing Day luncheon as non residents. The hotel was busy and we soon integrated with drinks prior to being shown to neatly laid round table. A buffet lunch had a very good choice of meats and nicely presented poached salmon. The array of ‘ plate extras ‘, gave us really quality platefuls of well prepared food. Desserts were less varied and it would have been nice to have the addition of cheese and biscuits as a sweet option rather than on the main course plate
The staff service was without fault. Most attentive and prompt.
We really enjoyed our luncheon and the Cumberland was definitely our ‘ Boxing Champion ‘

Stayed at this hotel for a Tinsel and Turkey break with a large group of people.
The hotel is right on the front with sea views from restaurant and lounge. Many rooms have a sea view as well.
The food was very good also the service.
The drinks are a little on the pricey side.
The bedrooms are a little dated but kept very clean.
Entertainment does need to be improved it was rather repetitive, the same guy every night.
Enjoyed our stay

I visited with a group at the end of October and had a great stay. The food was good and the service in the dining room was brilliant. I could see the sea from my bedroom window. On two nights we had entertainment by Phil Haze - wonderful! There is a bus stop outside the hotel - we went off to the Harbour on our free day. The theatre was just a short walk away.

We were here for a dancing weekend and the staff were extremely welcoming, helpful and friendly. Check in was smooth and the parking was easy. Our room was rather old fashioned, but clean and comfortable. We asked for a quiet room and it was lovely and quiet at all times. The bathroom was in need of updating but there was plenty of hot water and fluffy towels and everything worked ok. The restaurant staff were particularly helpful and provided me with gluten free breakfasts and dinners. The food was good, wholesome, British style cooking. The hotel is in an ideal location, right on the sea front and handy for the town, which is a level walk away.

I held my Wedding over the weekend of the 16th September 2017. We had a lot of family staying at the hotel from the Friday through to Sunday. From the ceremony to wedding breakfast to the evening reception, the staff at the hotel couldn't have been more helpful if they tried. The wedding breakfast menu was perfect in taste, portions and service. The rooms were clean, well maintained and decorated tastefully. Nothing was too much trouble for Elaine and her staff and they went above and beyond anything thing I could have expected. They helped make out a perfect day... We will be going back to stay, even though we only live 7 miles up the road. Thank you x

i loved this hotel and all the staff , its a old world type of hotel that was clean and comfortable . the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful . my room was a shared balcony with a sea view and most important a double glazed door onto the balcony that when closed no traffic noise could be heard . the room was clean and bright with the most comfortable memory foam bed , all my normal aches and pains disappeared i am going to buy a new memory foam bed for my home. yes there is creaking floor boards but i am getting use to them in old hotels , its the people above you who do the creaking when they know it will be heard below their room . the meals were very nice, main evening meal was delivered to the table that was your table for the week and you chose the evening meal at breakfast to limit waste food being cooked , i didn't like the vegetables too much as i like under cooked crispy not over cooked soft veg . breakfast was semi buffet help yourself to orange fruit etc then tell the server what you want on your main hot breakfast this worked out very well . the coffee was hot and strong and the chefs homemade Greek yogurt was so good i had a big bowl full every day . i will come back to Eastbourne and this hotel
Have just attended Sally-Ann & David's wedding and can honestly state that the entire day was really super, all the staff were very helpful, and the food was excellent and plentiful,
Well done all you certainly deserve success
