Nice hotel, more water in shower.
Iike how they have a room downstairs you could chill in. Rooms are nice. And overal the positioning of the building is relaxed. You are really close to the beach and to the centre of eastbourne
More water usage in the shower, you can’t really shower proper like that, it’s because of “saving water” but i would say that if you will use more water you will actually have your hotel up to a 10 rating since you woild have all you need

Good value for money and kind staff
Staff were friendly and helpful. Heating worked and shower was warm. We had the last two rooms as our previous hotel didn’t have any heating.
Bed could do with an upgrade, and seems a little run down. But still very good value for money.

Bare bones, but solid location and a price point where all is forgiven.
Great location for the beachy head marathon at lesss than a mile from the start line and also is centrally located adjacent to the peir.
Staff were friendly and it was very inexpensive for the location and to be frank we paid £40.00 per night in central eastbourne.... the first round cost more, so there's little that could have occurred to dampen my enjoyment (save the biblical deluge the coast was besiged by.)
The water temp in the shower was great after a frozen, neigh stygiann jaunt across the seven sisters.
The beding was clean the hotel tv worked. So, the big thing is to temper your expectations, to say the property has seen better days would be rather a understament.
The hotel itself may once have been grand, but time and the remorseless eastbourne winters have wrought hard changes.
If you don't sweat the small stuff, stained paintwork, broken signage, flickering lights in dimly with labyrinthine halls, slow draining showeer drains and the acompanying panic as the water level rises in the tray, then the hotel will servive as a bare bones base of operations.
If you're bothered by cosmetic issues, this may not be the right spot for you.
Personally I rather enjoy the silent hill come overlook aesthetic, but your milage will vary.

Welcoming and quirky
Quaint, charming if a little outdated. Warm welcome from an endearing gentleman on reception. This hotel was value for money and perfect location for our requirements. Rooms are basic and adequate, but we had a view of the sea and the pier which was gorgeous at sunrise!
We had a window we couldn't open and the bed has definitely seen better days.

Staff/manager were really nice and friendly, accommodating when needed to change room,
Needs a make over to bring up to date decorations, needs cigarette bin outside, bins need shutting, no net curtains and needs black out curtains that fit, pillows need replacing as very old.

My husband and I and our little dog stayed at the Afton Hotel the weekend just gone and we had a thoroughly good time there and within Eastbourne. The gentleman on the reception desk were very helpful, kind and informative. Our room had a gorgeous sea view and opened onto a decorative balcony (not safe to use but lovely to open up onto). The room was clean, bed very comfy, had everything you needed - tea/coffee, good size tv etc. The only negative is it's outdated and could do with a refurb however this is purely cosmetic as everything functioned well and suited us perfectly. It's also a very good price for the location too as it's right by the pier and the seafront. Would definitely stay again next time we visit Eastbourne. Highly recommend.

I had a great stay at this hotel, and a good night's sleep.
I found the staff to be very helpful which is always important. My full English breakfast came quickly when I ordered. Really enjoyed my stay as intertainment, was laid on that evening too.
