Had lunch here with my friend and his wife, food was excellent value and well presented. This is a very busy venue, so booking is advised and recommended. My only gripe, as an ex-publican is the dated fashion of 'the bar stool brigade'.
Usually groups of men, who insist on blocking the bar for everyone else, who then have to negotiate the tricky minefield of bar room etiquette to get served. This is exacerbated when the screens are showing football!!!
But great staff, plenty of seating both inside and out and generally worth a visit.
UPDATE: I visited this venue on Christmas Eve 2025. Everything I commented on regarding my last visit remains pertinent. My only, slight issue is that as a disabled pensioner I found the lack of a grab rail at the urinals in the gents toilet quite problematic, especially given the quite deep step needed for access.
Finally, I wish to reiterate the kindness and friendliness of the staff, who have been amazing to me during this visit...thank you all.

Superb food and good value. We all had burgers and an apple crumble for dessert. I'd put the burger in my top 5 ever! Service was friendly and our dogs welcomed. Thanks so much 👍

Friendly service all around, especially from Ben the bartender. The atmosphere is relaxed, with televisions showing soccer for sports fans. The potato and leek soup served with a warm baguette was delicious. Highly recommend this place!

Always pop in here when we're in Eastbourne. Bit disappointed this time, November '25, as local beer (Harvey's) not really up to scratch, much better at the Victoria down the road.
Also, most of the tables had reserved notices in them, so felt rushed despite the pub being half empty.

Simply amazing! I don't often recommend restaurants or pubs, but if you are visiting Eastbourne please come to The Crown & Anchor. The food is spectacular. I came here twice in a row with my family and each time every dish has been stellar. The vegetables have still a bit bite to them, the meat is so tender it might melt on your tounge, the sauce is full of taste and the potatoes are simply perfect. The desserts are so scrumptious as well. I really fell in love with the place and can't recommend it enough. ❤️

If you're looking for a Sunday roast that hits all the right notes, look no further than the Anchor & Crown. We came in expecting a decent pub lunch, we left genuinely impressed and fully satisfied. The roast beef was the star of the show: tender, beautifully cooked and sliced generously. The roast potatoes were perfectly done: crunchy on the outside, fluffy inside and seasoned just right. The accompanying mash was smooth and creamy, and the seasonal veg still had bite. There was not a soggy carrot in sight. Everything was brought together with a rich, savory gravy. Portion size? Generous. Price? Incredibly fair for the quality. Service was friendly and efficient, with food arriving promptly even during the Sunday rush. The cozy, classic pub atmosphere only added to the charm. This wasn’t just a meal. It was a proper Sunday tradition, done right. Highly recommend. ✨

Hubby had the Boston burger, which came with chips and coleslaw. He was very impressed with the burger being so tasty, and all of it was freshly cooked.
I had the chilli con carni. Very nice 👌..didn't think it would have a kick at all, but it did just right. Rice was cooked perfectly. Garlic bread was a nice surprise, but don't bother with the salad.
Well worth the money. We will be back as we want to try some more dishes 😋

It's okay, steak and ale pie nice but the gravy was a bit weird. This pub, although greene king is not part of the AA discount scheme. Dog friendly.
