We used the hotel's function room to host a 'Strictly come dancing' evening for our members and thier partners. It was a fun evening made even more enjoyable by the wonderful service that we received from the hotel. The Afton Hotel team made everyone feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you all for making our evening a success.

Another successful weekend for the "Old Boys" and their partners. We have for several years now been lucky enough to spend two weekends each year at The Afton, which really speaks for itself. Friendly staff, good location, clean warm rooms, good entertainment Friday and Saturday,very accommodating regarding bar opening or should I say closing, which when friends get together for a "chat" is very useful. Food very adequate and even late night sandwiches ordered arrived at 10.30 were supurb, all in all excellent value. We can't thank them enough for yet another great weekend from all 19 of us.

I would like to say that 48 of us from the Ex-Servicemens Club Thetford stayed here for 2 days & 3 nights and I couldn't fault it, the food was great, the rooms were clean and tidy and very comfortable, The staff were very attentive and we didn't have to wait for anything. When we went down for our meals we were served straight away and it came out piping hot. This was our first trip to Eastbourne and I think if we went there again we would use this hotel.When we got to the hotel there was scaffolding up but that didn't detract from the great service we recieved.

I've been to the Afton Hotel a couple of times for various meetings/networking events and have been pleasantly surprised by the friendly service, clean well maintained décor and atmosphere.
Music and food was good and bar prices were very good. I usually expect hotel bar prices to be more expensive that pubs/clubs but this wasn't the case.
I've yet to stay there as I live locally but I will definitely recommend them to friends and family.

It get,s better every year,HMS Protector Association hold their Mini reunion every September at the Afton,booked for next year making it Number 7. All 76 members and guests who attended this year wishes to thank All at the Afton for making it first class. Our senior of 92 years young, throughly enjoyed the weekend. Having used this hotel for a number of years now for the HMS Protector Association mini reunions, it just gets better! Comfortable clean rooms with all the courtesy items replaced daily. Good plentiful food served by efficient and friendly staff in the air conditioned dining room, added to this the hotel is situated in a great location for all amenities and main town centre shopping (for the ladies that do) Thanks to the management and staff for providing us with another memorable weekend we have booked for next year already.

Marco and team hosted a 3 course fundraising dinner for +100 people, and did an outstanding job!
The bar and waiting staff were friendly and very efficient, and the Management kept a watchful eye making sure everything ran smoothly all night.

A great venue, fantastic food and good hospitality. Would recommend them for events without hesitation.

the afton is a frendly hotal.good food and service.meal always hot and on time,clean but some parts a little tired,the only problem was its opposite the pier and on certain nights of the week becomes a nightclub so can be noisy.

This was our second trip to the Afton and we found it had improved on its food quite considerably. It was ALWAYS hot and plentiful with a selective menu. The waitressess were quick and not left us waiting between courses.
Our room was cleaned daily and the room maid very helpful by making our beds each day. She too was very pleasant
Reception staff was pleasant and helpful. I had occasion to visit the local surgery Jason, the manager, phoned the locol GP for an appointment and booked a taxi.
The hotel had put on a raffle for Tickets as VIP guests of the Aero club for the Air Show and we were fortunate to have those tickets. We enjoyed our week greatly and look forward to our return.

We stayed at the hotel last week and the staff were excellent - they couldnt do enough for you - the hotel was very clean - we would love to go back again next year - had a great time thanks Mr and Mrs Darnell Rotherham

We held my daughters wedding at the Afton Hotel on Saturday 25th June 2011 and I couldnt fault it. Fiona was excellent in the planning stages and the staff, food and venue on the day was fantastic. Some of our guests stayed over and were looked after very well. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Afton Hotel to anyone.

Having never been to the Afton Hotel before, I was pleasantly impressed with our brief meeting at the Eastbourne Tweetup. I look forward to my next visit where I've been promised a tour, I now have somewhere to recommend to my friends coming down to stay.

Recently when I decided to host a Tweetup with thebestof I was thinking of a number of venues. I dropped by the Afton Hotel and talked with Fiona about what they could offer. The main problem I was facing was not know how big the event would be. After all it was arranged purely through Twitter so it could have been a few or even a large group.

I was told how the Afton Hotel can cope with small gatherings to that of a large function. This made them the perfect choice. Better than expected they even provided a range of tasty snacks appreciated by all the attendees.

We shall continue to host the tweetup's there for as long as @aftonhotel will have us.

A very big thank you to Marco and Cathy for making the guests of the first Eastbourne Tweetup so very welcome. Like all the the bestof Eastbourne members they went that extra mile to offer a first class service, providing some tasty snacks. It is little things like that and a warm welcome that make Afton special. I will definitely be back.

We visited the Afton Hotel in Eastbourne on Saturday 2nd July for a family party. We booked a room for the night last minute and were surprised that even though we booked so late we were able to get such a lovely clean room over-looking the Pier and the Sea for only £60 for both of us with Breakfast too ! The party was held in the ground floor Ballroom and it was a great night as the bar was well staffed and there was no waiting to be served drinks and the service was friendly and efficient too. I don;t know how much the Buffet cost but it was fit for royalty and we were entertained by a great disco & dj.

I would definately recommend the Afton Hotel to anyone and will definately return there as Eastbourne was so welcoming.......not just for oldies lol

i have stayed at the Afton, as as single traveller, on many occasions. The staff and Management (Jason and Fiona)) have always been very helpful and polite and nothing seems to be too much trouble. Rooms are very clean. Food good and waiting staff are always very attentive and look genuinely pleased to see you from one stay to another.

i am looking forward to my next visit, as this hotel is very good value for money.

This is a nice hotel but we had a family room instead of a double the room did need updating. The staff are very friendly The only major complaint was that the breakfast could have been better for the price we paid.

We stayed at this hotel on a whim when visiting Eastbourne for the day with our dog. The weather was great so we fancied staying overnight. We'd been up on the South Downs and couldnt get enough of the fantastic views up there! The Afton is right by the Pier so a great location & near to restaurants etc. I didn't expect them to welcome our cocker spaniel but they said as long as he's well behaved it was OK. We didn't feel the need to try other hotels, this one seemed so friendly & it wasn't expensive. The hotel itself is comfortable, clean & pleasant . The breakfast was good too & set us up nicely for another day walking. We'll certainly be back!

This hotel is better than some 5star hotels we have been in, staff helpful, friendly, and make your stay very comfortable.

Four of us had a midweek break and were all ofthe same opinion. The bedrooms were very good apart from the tiny old fashion T/V which didnt have a remote control. I asked reception for one but it didn't arrive, I also asked the Manager and he said he couldn't get one. As a last resort, I asked a Cmamber maid and got one in next to no time, well done chamber maid. The shower room was very good even if a little small. Shame that the refitters didnt finish it off very well. The toilet roll holder was hanging loose from the wall, no glass holders, grouting missing in a lot of places, hook behind the door was so high my short wife could hardly reach it, labels still on the pedestal. The workmen should be called in to finish off what would be a very nice en-suite. The bed and bedding were very good and comfortable and we slept very well.
Regarding the food. This was a complete let down. Breakfast had very little choice with serial or fruit and the bowls were almost thimble size. Toast was very thin, almost like paper. The main breakfast was quite good but small although extra was available if you asked.
Dinner wasn't very good with very little choice and the servings with the veg in particular were very small. The serving dishes held just about enough for one healthy eating person. The boiled potatoes were terrible and the greens over cooked.
The sweets were reasonable but felt as if they came out of catering tins.
Evening entertainment was average except for the last evening when someone called George was supposed to entertain us, what a let down that was.
During our stay there was 2 coach loads from Wales and they really made the evenings, they were such good fun and entertaining. We would love to meet up again with them sometime.
Value for money this hotel was quite good and if they improved on the quality of the food it could become a 3 star. The staff wer fine, no problem at all as they were so helpful and polite.
We would go back againand just hope the food had improved.
I hope this is not taken as a bad review as all the faults could be put right so easily and it would then be a lovely place to stay.
