If you're driving this Christmas, keep safe and be prepared!

With another big freeze set to hit Britain this week, The Best of Newmarket has some top tips for staying safe in your car.

Snow and ice is expected to hit much of the UK by the end of this week. Driving in freezing conditions requires some extra care and preparation.

As well as de-icer and an ice scraper, it is worth putting together a survival kit before setting off on any journey, things to include are:

  • A mobile phone, with the battery fully charged!
  • Warm outside clothing, waterproof coat and boots.
  • A first aid kit.
  • Blankets.
  • A torch.
  • Jump leads.
  • Tow rope.
  • An old rug, to use under the wheels if you get stuck in the snow!
  • Warning triangle.
  • Snow shovel.
