Proposed plans for the redevelopment of one of Cambridge's most unsightly areas looks set to be approved.

The site at the junction of Huntingdon Road and Histon Road has been described as one of Cambridge's worst eyesores, selected as one of the ugliest areas in the city by architects in 2009.

Previously occupied by a Texaco garage, the site now houses a temporary car wash but plans are proposed to redevelop the site and build student flats. The plans are for a four storey building to house 94 student bedrooms in addition to a ground floor shop.

It is hoped the proposed development will make both a visual and functional improvement to the area.
