Its final orders for The Five Bells in Cambridge

Following a hearing two days ago on the fate of The Five Bells in Cherry Hinton, it has been decided that the old drinking haunt will be making way for another batch of new housing.

Cllr Rob Dryden has fought solely on the panel to keep the pub but was outnumbered in his quest to keep its doors open and the beer flowing. With the dazzling weather this weekend, had it been open, the pub garden would have been a British summer time treat to sign off the season, and with winter rolling in, Cambridge is one more amenity down.

The pub has not been shed the best light in recent years; however it did provide meals for pensioners and could have been trained back into a hub of the community in the area.

Instead, if you are in the Cherry Hinton area, you will need to gather your sea legs and make the journey to the next watering hole which is a little further, or utilise one of the many taxi firms as featured on the thebestof, as this is one bar that’s final order bell has long been tolled!
