Hundreds of students from Cambridge University have blocked entrances to key buildings at the University this morning as part of the continuing protests nationwide against the increase in tuition fees.

Campaigners occupied entrances to the Senate House and Old Schools this morning, handing out flyers and preventing University staff from entering.

The campaigners issued a letter to University chiefs, explaining that they should expect the protests to continue. In the letter, they urged the University to “oppose the increase in fees, fight against it and fight against all cuts to education, and use its influence to oppose the spending review’s threat to education, welfare, health and other public services."

The protests continue throughout today, alongside sit-ins of several other parts of the University.

The Police continue to monitor activity around the University, but to date all the protests have been peaceful.
