Cambridge City Council are pleading with local sun worshippers to tidy up after themselves after city parks were left in 'squalor' over the weekend of warm weather.

Parker's Piece and Jesus Green were left in 'squalor' according to local council chiefs, who went on to describe it one of the worst weekends they have ever seen.

Heaps of rubbish and broken glass were left in the parks as local sun lovers lapped up the sunshine over Saturday and Sunday, meaning additional staff had to be drafted in to help with the clean up.

The Council has outlined that whilst they do not intend to erect any additional signage to make park users aware of the problem - as they feel it adds to 'street clutter' - PCSO's and park workers will be on patrol this Bank Holiday weekend to ensure a similar problem does not arise.

Littering is deemed a criminal offence within Cambridge and those caught breaking the law could potentially face a fine of up to £2,500.
