I've been visiting the georgian house Hotel for many years now either a short stay or lunch time dining but recently decided to become a member at the gym. I've been a member at the gym for almost 4 months now, I have worked my way up to 2 personal training sessions a week with Simon who has helped me loose an incredible amount of weight and step out my comfort zone! All the leisure team staff are really friendly and helpful. The leisure facilities are cleaned very regular. Overall my best experience has been with the leisure team at the mercure georgian house.

Recent reviewers had lambasted this hotel for uncleanliness but we had a spotless twin room (891) with very comfortable mattresses, clean bathroom with shower over bath and washand basin. Usual beverage facilities and plenty of hot water.
This room had a Velux window that opened easily to a view over the countryside at the rear of the hotel.
The weather was atrocious but we had the window open without any water ingress

This was not a good experience. Booked 2 rooms on a 2 night with dinner package. Arrived on first night to find only 1 room was showing and only one single room was available. This was after numerous emails and telephone calls to confirm booking and arrangements. I showed the receptionist (Ashley) my booking for 2 double rooms close together. One should be accessible room for my elderly parents. Manager called and was initially offered a rain damaged room that manager deemed fit. I stood my ground for an accessible room as booked. I was then offered one with manager authorisation. Rooms still on different floors and opposite parts of the hotel. Not what we had booked but nothing else was available. I accepted this grudgingly as it was now 10.00pm and we were all tired after a 3 hour drive. Both rooms were poorly maintained (missing selves, stained carpets, poor grouting) and had request towels as well!

Breakfast was a steady affair. All the usual suspects - cereals, fruit, crossiants, juices, help yourself coffee and a selection of hot fayre but no hash browns or potato dish?

Did not use pool or spa.

Dinner went from OK to bad to worse. Ordered food at bar to be told that they had run out of hummus at 8.00pm on a Wednesday night? Ordered starters and mains. They had also run out of Becks Blue and there was no other alternative. The coke draught machine as not working either. The starters came after a short wait. Nice soup and garlic bread. We waited for our mains and waited some more and dishes were not cleared either for 30 minutes. In the end I went to bar and told then our mains had not come. Barmen asked which had not come? I said all of them and he rang kitchen and told me that they would be 'fast-tracked'. I got the feeling they had forgotten about us. They arrived 10 minutes latter. Burger and chip was good. My pasta was warm on the outside and stone cold in the middle. I think it had been microwaved badly. The server noticed that I'd left my pasta and asked if everything was alright. I explained the pasta was cold. He offered to warm it and a free drink. I declined and ordered dessert - sticky pudding which was the best thing we had that night.

Check-out was quick but no real apologies offered for the booking/room issues we had encountered.

Would not recommend unless you are desperate or check booking in advance and get in writing.

We stayed here last weekend and our room was directly above the smoking area so the smell from the cigarettes was at times overpowering, also there was a wedding party going on and nobody bothered to intercept when two guests stood on the patio swearing and shouting at each other for over 30 minutes. The option was to close the windows in a very hot room with no air conditioning. Overall not a very comfortable stay.

Arrived 745am but allowed us into the room for a £20 surcharge. Good value. We were staying 2 nights and we knew that on the morning of our departure it would be too early for breakfast. They kindly allowed us to have a breakfast on the day of check in instead . The boy on reception was definately on the "right bus"

We stayed for 9 nights, hotel is a perfect location for transportation links such as Horwich Parkway and Blackrod Railway stations as well as motorways.

Very friendly staff, food and drink reasonably priced and Irene in the sports bar was a dream! What a lovely lovely lady! She made our stay! So friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble, an absolute asset to the hotel!

As well as lovely food at the hotel there are a number of options within easy reach, The Cherry Tree (very nice although pricier than others) The Brinsop (closed Monday’s and Tuesdays) and The Railway Pub.

All in all an excellent stay and would return

Stayed 1 night as a birthday treat. Very friendly lady on reception checked me in and instantly made me feel welcome.
My room was on the 1st floor overlooking the main road at the front. Lovely big room that felt spacious. It was quite warm but being able to open the window helped a bit. Comfy bed, tea making facilities and a nice big bathroom ensured I had everything I needed.
I used the pool/spa facilities and really enjoyed them, again the staff there were very friendly and showed me how to use he lockers and where everything was. It was very relaxing and chilled out. I didn’t use the bar or restaurant but breakfast the next day was great.
As the weather was unseasonably nice, it was nice to make use of the outside space and terrace.
I’d definitely consider staying here again for a treat (I live locally)

I was part of a coach tour of over 40 people. They cope with us and another coach load by providing a rather basic buffet dinner. Room was good, and lift welcome. Comfortable hotel, and recommended. Coach driver missed the entrance, so it could be better signed.

Staff are very good, food had issues, room was dirty, we pointed out issues with food on 1st night and staff went the extra mile on the 2nd night, but with the other issues we had still made it feel that the birthday weekend trip for my partner got spoilt

Our coach party stayed here one night & everything fine.
Happy with self service dinner though bemused by having to pre order!
Used the swimming pool & enjoyed it - despite being infested with young children - apparently their evening.
No complaints & would willingly stay again

Pleasant staff and a place with charactor. Wary after reading a previous review but glad not to let it deter us from staying here. Yes there are a couple of things that could be updated, but if you want to stay in a palace, you should pay for a palace.

We visited here for a relatives party and have never been before.

It was a easy to find after we left the motorway.

There were plenty of car parking spaces and even though it was raining when we arrived, we did not have far to walk to get in to the hotel.

We found the bar and waiting staff to be friendly and welcoming and the food was all lovely.

Nice hotel in a quiet location.

Lovely quiet hotel

Good leisure facilities & not to busy

We had the evening meal in the bar on both nights , food mostly ok , potatoes undercooked & may be a little more variety on the menu as we don’t eat beef that ruled out 4 choices , 1 lamb choice would of been good

Excellent customer service by all the staff both on reception & in the bar

Just got home from a night stay with my family as our daughter is getting married there next year and we had a wonderful night even though the fire alarm was activated in the early hours I couldn't believe the moaning that was going on within the people staying there yes it is inconvenient but I was happier that it was working I could hear alot of customers saying that they would demand their money back which I find utterly disgusting but unfortunately you will always find people looking for a freebie special thanks to irene and the morning manager nothing was to much trouble for them and we can't wait to return in a couple of weeks for another overnight stay

Me and my family stayed here while visiting family up north. The hotel was lovely staff very friendly greeting us whenever we seen them, the pool was nice too especially the jacuzzi so relaxing. The only downfall was my room was extremely hot I found this most uncomfortable in the evening when getting ready to go out and when trying to sleep was the worst!

Not a bad hotel and the food was very good when received. Definitely needs more staff in the restaurant as they struggled to keep up with demand, especially at breakfast.
Ran out of eggs and couldn’t keep up with the demand for bacon....I’m still waiting for my eggs despite being told several times they are on their way.
Rooms are clean albeit in need of a bit of TLC on the paintwork, toilet flush a novelty when it worked.

Stayed here yesterday as part of a national holiday tour, clean, spacious inviting, check in was quick, room was clean and presented, comfortable beds and amenities, bar was well appointed next to the reception, restaurant is adjacent to the reception, evening meal was nice, piping hot and plentiful... Slept well and down to breakfast, absolute shambles, insufficient food people queuing up, waiting for 10 minutes then food gone and waiting again, the system for toast and cereal is off kilter, and the same for hot food. Its a shame because I liked staying here and the staff were lovely but waiting for food for breakfast isn't a good thing, anyway overall a good visit, would certainly return..

The Hotel is perfectly adequate for the price at only £69 per night including breakfast. Bar and public area's a bit sparse, plain and simple but again adequate , Bedrooms a bit tired and in need of redecoration . Paint peeling off the wall and off the skirting in the bathroom. However the bed was large and comfortable and the room clean. As mentioned Ok for the price as paid.

Hotel in good value for money. Rooms are a bit dated but you get what you pay for. Food is normally great, (I stay 2 or 3 times a month) but tonight the chicken was very chewey, tasted amazing but struggled to swallow. If you’re looking for average place not too expensive then this is ok. If you want a special weekend away the book somewhere else.

Stayed for 1 night with National Holidays the room was basic ideal for a 1 night stay .there were all the usual facilities, ironing board/iron, trouser press, wardrobe space but no draws or bedside cabinets just a little shelf between single beds. The beds were so comfy and pillows with actual filling, room was clean usual toiletries in the bathroom, our room 330 was at the back on the 1st floor and was very quiet. The dining room was set us very nice and considering there was a wedding in progress the service was good. The menu was excellent, starter and sweet were waitress service and the main meal was carvery, plenty of choice and very tasty. The bar was a little basic just tables and chairs not what you would call a lounge but as only 1 night it was sufficient. Staff very friendly and helpful, all in all, no complaints.

Upon entering the reception desk, the staff were friendly and helpful, and as other people have mentioned in reviews, some areas of the hotel looked tired with a few large broken windows in the main corridors and walls needing a lick of paint. Bedroom and bed linen were very clean, the bathroom tiles were a bit 1980's, basin tap cap missing, but overall clean (room 779). However, for the price we couldn't grumble as it was conveniently placed for what we wanted. Conclusion.. Ok for the money.. just needs some modernisation.
