As my preferred hotel in the local area I'd booked a 3 night stay. Our corporate booking system had managed to arrange a "breakfast inclusive" rate on this occasion, but only the basic room type (some you win...)

I was accompanied by a colleague, which was fortunate as, despite my request for a room in the rear accommodation block I'd been allocated one in the front block facing the road. Fortunately my colleague (who claims to be able to sleep through a hurricane) was happy to swap rooms with me, and his room - then mine - was as originally requested. We checked in early, at around 13:30, but our rooms were ready so we dropped off our bags.

On returning to the hotel later that evening we had the opportunity to use the leisure facilities before going out to dinner nearby. Sadly the Jacuzzi was out of action, but the main pool was open and the steam room and sauna were working fine.

My room was hot at the end of July, but the hotel provided a fan on request. Using this at an open window managed to keep the temperatures sufficiently cool overnight, and a good nights sleep was possible (mainly due to being able to leave the window open as I was in the rear accommodation block - too noisy IMO if facing the road in the front block, even with the window closed)

Breakfast each day had a good selection of hot and cold options available (buffet style) but for some reason there were no eggs available on the first two days, and having a later breakfast on the last day of my stay the staff noted that they only had 8 remaining whilst I waited in the queue - there is a Tesco less than 2 miles away folks!

Other than "egg-gate" at breakfast I had a pleasant stay. The staff as always were attentive and helpful, and I'll be sure to stay here the next time I'm in the area.

Stayed a few times over the years and haven’t had any issues, great location to get to but can be hard to get back on motorway at peak times, nice to see some money being spent on redecorating reception and hopefully they will be moving into rooms soon as they feel very dated.

As said rooms are dated but you have everything you need, large comfy bed and okay TV, I say okay as it’s a smaller set considering the size of room. Only down side during this hot period is rooms have no air con and no fan was available.

Didn’t eat dinner but the breakfast is decent.

We stayed for a concert at the Macron Stadium, hotel was clean and staff friendly and helpful. Bar and Food a bit overpriced and room too hot but put that down too recent hot weather could probably do with some air conditioning in room. Room was a decent size and bed was comfortable.
Handy for stadium only about a 25 minute walk and plenty of restaurants and bars at the nearby retail park.
Would have given 5 stars but bar and food prices too high (15.95 for breakfast!)

The wedding rooms were lovely but the bar was expensive. The bed was comfortable and the room was fine but not very modern. We couldn't leave the window open as it was noisy so it was very warm. Hotels.com said the rooms had air conditioning but they didn't unfortunately.

Stayed here whilst attending a wedding locally. First impression wasn't to bad but our room (218) was desperate for a refurb.

Although spacious, the room was outdated and worn throughout. The bed was comfy and bedding clean. The room itself was unbelievably hot with no circulating air even with the window open.
The bathroom was extremely worn and old fashioned especially the tiles. The shower leaked and the shower curtain barely covered enough of the bath allowing water to spray out onto the clearly uneven floor and pooled under the toilet.

Breakfast was acceptable though at 10am (breakfast served till 1030) no further fresh food was brought out so had to do with what was left.

Staff friendly and helpful. Could be lovely if updated.

It was difficult to find but as it happened in a convenient and quiet situation. It was clean, the Staff were helpful and friendly. The room was spacious and nicely equipped. The breakfast was OK but a little sparse.

we stayed here after a trip to some museums in nearby Manchester. very pretty hotel in great surroundings. the room was warm, clean and comfortable, and the pool was cool and refreshing with clean changing rooms.

importantly the staff were very helpful and welcoming, we brought our dog and they were so accommodating. they even brought us plates and cutlery to our room when a Chinese delivery we ordered arrived.

very impressed with this hotel and hope to be back soon.

Stayed over Bank holiday weekend as part of a tour. Hotel was clean and bright the main areas looked like they had recently been re- carpeted /decorated. Young staff in dining room were hard working and friendly as were the staff in the bar. Bar prices for food and drink were on the high side and limited in choice. Bed was comfortable.

Stayed one night as we had an event to go to the One bar/restaurant, so in easy walking distance. The room was very dated and in need of updating. It was also very hot, the heat hit it you as soon as you opened the door. We ate the bar the food was very good.

I stay at the mercure Bolton for two night this weekend.
The breakfast was delicous and would highly recommend it.

I would like to say a massive thank you to Hannah on reception who made the stay extra easy and was always on hand to help.

Decor is very dated, but room was clean. Bed was very comfortable, but walls extremely thin and I could hear the gentleman in the room next door on the phone. I know that I was on my own, but only given 1 cup, 1 towel etc! No info on the hotel (menu, useful numbers etc) in the room which is unusual.
Didn’t have an evening meal, but did have breakfast. No one there to greet / seat me, so just chose a table. Fairly good selection of food, but no scrambled egg and no one to ask for some porridge.
Very large free car park which is a bonus so you don’t have to park next to someone. If in the area again would choose somewhere else. Nothing in particular wrong with the hotel, but nothing special either. Had a company discount, but was still £85 B&B; a Premier Inn offers better value for money.

I last stayed here in March 2016, wasn't a particularly success experience then and unfortunately little has changed.
Bonus is a pleasant reception, a young French lady who did her very best to make me feel welcome.

Decor of the room, No Change
Decor of the bathroom, No Change

Still a need for investment

Bar staff, totally useless is an understatement. Didn't know how to make a bitter Shandy. We're unable to resolve a minor complaint over drink charged to a room. Completely inadequate.

Ate off site

Breakfast starts at 7am, in my case food was late, despite being pre cooked and was delivered mostly cold.

£104 for the room
£116 with breakfast

If needs must

Rooms were modern and clean, the night staff Mick and Chris are true professionals - I was here for 10 days for job training, throughout they were kind and looked out for us the entire time. Couldn't say a bad word about them.

Stayed here on a Tuesday night, pleasant check in girl, nice room, no tea or coffee in room which was unusual, lovely bed and the en suite was nice. Food in the restaurant was to a very good standard I had the soup and steak and ale pie.
I would certainly stay here again.

Stayed one night with national holidays. Double room on 2nd floor with view of the Macron Stadium. Bathroom bit tired could do with update. Evening meal was lovely waiting staff very young did have to ask for plates to be moved before next course, managed to have time for a swim in the leisure pool, staff were lovely. Breakfast was plentiful in nice atmosphere although cooked breakfast could’ve been bit hotter. Had pleasant stay, would recommend.

Originally booked in for spa treatments for my Daughters 30th Birthday in March. Treatments were out of this world. Thank you Karen Holland. Barmaid Irene was so much fun. Unfortunately this was the highlight. After booking in January, confirming the week before and checking in, it was failed to be pointed out to us that there would be Thomas Cook delegates and no restaurant - despite being asked what time we would like to eat. There was a buffet which was more from a greasy spoon and we needed to pay £16 each as we weren't part of TC. Our room was right in the middle of them. Woken at 6.30am with them getting ready for the days conference and breakfast. Had to book a table at a local restaurant - which was lovely - couldn't wait to leave the next morning. Made a complaint to manager Nadine Saxton who offered us a complementary weekend. Fast forward four weeks we are back again. So different - enjoyed the spa facilities and the meal in the evening was absolutely lovely and we were given rooms away from the wedding guests in a quieter part of the hotel. Irene the barmaid was also there and remembered us. Like greeting an old friend. Thank you Nadine for resolving this and giving us a memorable stay this time for the right reason. Restored our faith in your company. Thank you Sue and Jemma.

Stayed here for 2 nights recently. Bar area is laid out with cheap furniture. Feels like a social club reather than a hotel Bar. Food was very average. I ordered a club sandwich which contained what I can only describe as a bolied egg. Never had that in a club sandwich before. Chips were undercooked and taste less.

Room was adequate. could not turn heating off which meant the room was too warm
Bathroom had black mould around the taps.

Bar staff were attentive but could not remember room number despite me saying it 3 times.

Overall disapointing.

The staff were excellent and friendly and the double bed was so comfy.

Would not hesitate to recommend.

We stayed here as part of a coach tour holiday. As you'd expect drinks at the bar we're expensive. £3.80 for a coke. Both the evening meal and breakfast were very nice. Hot, tasty and enough to choose from. Apart from the chef who was serving dinner using his fingers on some of the foods a bit too much. Our room was warm and comfortable and clean. Only downsides were that there was only one hand and bath towel supplied. Our room(663) had a dodgy bathroom door lock and you had to pump the loo handle a few times for it to flush. But overall good value for money and I would stay here again.

I stayed here for a night on business. The hotel was in a convenient location and had a decent sized carpark, although it was unnerving to see broken glass from someone's car window scattered over the floor!
My room was ok, probably very nice 10 years ago but like the rest of the hotel it was well worn. However it was a good size with plenty of space to work and decent wifi. It was also nice to have a proper radiator rather than noisy warm air heating.
Room service dinner was good but breakfast was very limited. All the staff seemed pleasant and helpful.

I recently stayed at this hotel on business, in advance of an event at the same venue. The bar/lounge area in the main entrance was being refurbished so it looked a bit like a construction site, but that's no fault of the hotel. The majority of staff were friendly and polite, particularly the lady who was looking after breakfast service the day I departed. The most important factors for me when staying at a hotel are secure parking, service, cleanliness, good food and a quiet room. The parking was fine, but some areas of the car park were dark and I didn't see any security cameras. The service was good and the staff mostly friendly, helpful and polite. My room, although dated was clean and comfortable and I had a very good night's sleep. Breakfast was comparable to the standard offerings at the likes of Holiday Inn and Premier in, but perhaps not as good and certainly less variety - e.g. I didn't notice any croissants or pastries - but it didn't affect me as I usually go for the Full English. Coffee at breakfast was good, which is important to me.
All in all, an average experience, nothing particularly bad or outstanding, although I wouldn't personally pay to stay here from my own pocket.
