We stayed one night in this hotel before heading back home. Nice hotel, room was not huge, but ok. Bathroom was clean and the staff was very friendly. We spent a good time in the nice swimming pool and sauna.
Breakfast was very good also. About a 20 minutes drive to the airport on a calm sunday morning and to the city center of Manchester on saturday evening.
There was a wedding on saturday night with quite loud music, but in the end we did not encounter difficulties to sleep.
Surrondings are not very nice.
Would certainly stay there again.

This Hotel needs some investment. The Reception and Bar area have been updated but my room needed a make over. The bathroom was clean but dated. I tried the pool but it was closed to residents. The positive side of this hotel is the low b&b price and being close to the Reebok Stadium.

I'd like to thank the staff at the mercure for making my stay a pleasant one. They are more than willing help, a nice change in the service industry! I'd like to say a special thanks to Anthony, Maria and especially Ashley Holden, who is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure your stay is a comfortable one. Thanks again, keep up the good work. I would recommend this hotel to anyone........

Great value package - two nights B&B and one night dinner - all for just over £100. Room on top floor - small but cosy. There are even views of the Lancashire hills and the Reebok stadium in the distance. Hotel staff friendly and helpful. Food surprisingly good - hot buffet breakfast in particular was fresh and appetising. Large pool was very warm with clean changing facilities. Very quiet despite two wedding receptions taking place.

I was booked into the Mercure Bolton West by my company when I was travelling to Bolton for business. I had quite a day, with a 5am start, flying to East Midlands, meetings all day and then a 2 hour journey to Bolton. On days like that I always dread staying somewhere new as you don't know what the service, food and room will be like. I had no need to worry with this hotel, we arrived around 7.30pm and the receptionist kindly stored out bags so that we could eat in the restaurant. The food was as you would expect in a chain hotel but the experience was elevated by Emma Yates, our waitress who was extremely personable and went above and beyond to ensure we were happy (thanks for the biscuits Emma!). We were then checked in by the equally friendly Angela Wilson who was very efficient and got us two lovely rooms.

People like Emma and Angela really help bring back a bit of local personality and charm to chain hotels like Mercure and shouldn't be underestimated. I'd be unlikely to remember this type of hotel for the foods or furnishings but I will certainly remember the faces and friendliness of the staff and look forward to my next visit.

On May 4th 2012 I attended a wedding at this hotel. The room was decorated beautifully - lots of fairy lights, pretty lanterns and it really did look romantic. The meal after the service was first class. The food was well cooked and seasoned and very nicely presented. All the staff were helpful and very smartly dressed. The day was a wonderful one so much so that I cant think of anywhere nicer to book for my husbands 70th birthday next year. I dont think anyone getting married there would be disappointed.

I used the hotel as a place to crash after attending a wedding nearby and it served it's purpose well. The hotel was easy to find, being just off the A6 and M61 and had ample free parking. The hotel itself was basic but clean and the welcome from the reception staff warm and inviting. The room I had was fine, a little dated but adequate for what I needed. Bathroom etc was clean and the shower powerful enough, although there was no heating in the bathroom, which made it a little chilly first thing in the morning, as the room I had was on the top corner of the building and therefore exposed to the Bolton winds! But that wasn't much of a problem and I had a good night's sleep so can't complain.

Breakfast was included in the £40 I paid, which made this excellent vbalue for money as the breakfast was hearty - good selection of cooked and non-cooked items served by friendly staff.

So overall a pleasant stay - the only thing that would have made it better would have been wi-fi access in the rooms.

I have stayed here about 5 times now the last this weekend and have to say I would return tomorrow. Rooms airy, comfortable and bathrooms spotless. Showers hot and pressure great.
Only other hotels in area are Travel Lodge(avoid like the plague) Premier Inn sound but this was much better for the same price.

I didnt eat there though so cant comment.

I stayed numerous times at this hotel when it was a Ramada as it was a convieniant location for work. There were many times when there were problems, (being given a radiator key to bleed the radiator in my room throughout the night when the heating system was on the blink, forgetting my dinner order and leaving me waiting for an hour, are just two). So its good to say that since Mercure took it on improvements have come on a pace but the most noticeable improvement is with the staff. Previously the only staff to be consistently good were the breakfast girls. Now everyone speaks, the reception is great and getting a beer at the bar no longer takes an age. (would be great if they had a local bitter on draught though). Staying there is something to look forward to.

Another trip north to Bolton, somewhat complicated by the fuel shortage due to there not being a tanker drivers strike before Easter.

I have stayed at this hotel previously, so booked one of their premium rooms that includes Internet, movies and mineral water in the standard room charge. This also automatically allocates one of the larger rooms or suites.

On arrival I was allocated room 784, the Belmont Suite on the second floor of the rear block. Whilst this faces south west, back towards the entrance and the A6/Manchester Road, it is set some way back and road noise was not an issue.

After unpacking I attempted to gain a connection to the Internet, but was unable to do so. This does involve agreeing to the £19.95 per day charge, either via the TV or via your own PC when you first connect, but this charge never appears on the final bill. I kept getting an error message, so after calling reception they sent someone up to have a look. They suggested that the TV had been moved between rooms, so it would not work. They helped me to move down the corridor to Room 770, the Rivenhall Suite where I had stayed previously. This room faced in the same direction as the previous one, but had the added "advantage" of scaffolding outside the windows, though during my stay I did not see anyone using this?

The remainder of my stay was excellent. I tried the Arts restaurant one evening, and the food was good - much better than eating alone in my room and the serving staff were pleasant and friendly.

The leisure facilities are good at this hotel, and even though there were children’s swimming lessons during the early evenings, they were well behaved and kept to a roped off area of the pool, allowing other guests plenty of room to swim lengths or just "float and soak".

The staff as always were friendly and welcoming, and if I'm back in the area I'll be sure to stay here again.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel after attending a wedding there. The check in was very friendly and efficient. The receptionist was smiling, always makes a nice impression.

The room was fine, clean and had everything you needed. I always wonder if I'll sleep well as previous experience of staying at hotels we've been woken in the night, either by noisy neighbours, drunken people, noisy lifts or banging doors, but we slept very very well and weren't woken once.

We did have one complaint during the wedding reception, the bar served my husband with the same drinks all night, then on one visit to the bar it went up by a £1. My husband enquired why and was given the receipt... He wasn't given an explaination. So he went back and asked, he was told that the bill was right. He wasn't upset of annoyed over a £1 but didn't like being told the bill was right when he knew it wasn't as we'd been served a different price all night. My husband used another bar in the hotel and showed them the bill and the manager explained that the person who had served him had been charging him for a full serving of lemonade in my drink, when the person should have charged for a 'splash'. Anyway, that satisfied my husband, and the manager gave us free drinks - which we weren't expecting.
So even though we had a problem while we were there, it was dealt with very nicely and the manager couldn't have been more helpful.
We didn't stay for the breakfast because to he honest I think £10 for a full english breakfast is too much, but others who stayed commented that it was good.

We were generally very satisfied with our stay but would make a few minor observations.:

1 Whilst seeming a bit trivial there was no bedside table between the twin beds which we found very weird! We had to use a chair. I have never stayed in a hotel without some sort of bedside cabinet.
2 My wife felt that the never-ending and loud football commentary in the bar was very intrusive.
3 On our last morning there was no cranberry juice at breakfast.

I had a stay here as part of a group booking for 5 days and have to say that this hotel has the whole package. I personally found the facilities excellent and the staff very helpfull and patient ( I am very fussy). I would whole heartedlly recommend the hotel and will certainly use the hotel again.

The feel of the hotel is like a second home, and nothing seems to be a problem, and is dealt with, with speed and great efficiency.

The staff and management are very friendly and go the EXTRA mile to ensure that your stay is fully enjoyable and as pleasant as can be.

Must give the most praise for this outstanding establishment. The staff couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming, and the food and beverages were of the highest standards. I cannot recommend the hotel more and will return when I'm in this beautiful part of the world.

Me and my partner stayed here near valentines day and had a really nice trip. There were some minor issues but very minor! We were greeted at reception my a helpful receptionist and check in was very swift. However, I didn't feel she gave me and my partner enough information about the hotel and we had to keep asking through out the stay. The room was clean and modern with a spacious bathroom. We had one meal in the restaurant and we couldn't have asked for any more. It was reasonable priced and the staff were well trained and pleasant. We also used the spa which was very relaxing but when I used the sauna there was no water. Another minor isssue was the fire alarm went off in the morning, which we didn't mind but would have liked to have been warned. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and will be coming back.

My wife and I had a very pleasant four nights stay in the Mercure Bolton West whilst visiting family in Horwich. We had never visited the hotel before and chose it largely because of its location and its readiness to take our Jack Russell, Boo. The hotel proved to be very comfortable but the most impressive aspect was the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff we had the pleasure to meet. From the moment of our arrival, we were made to feel most welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. It also proved to be possibly the most Boo-friendly hotel which we have visited: everyone seemed ready to welcome our little over-excited exuberant companion and eager to spend time with her. We did not eat evening meals in the restaurant but the breakfasts were wonderful and the staff in the dining room were invariably attentive and friendly. Car parking was plentiful and easy. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.
