I made this booking months in advance of my stay but when it came to online check in time I realised I wasn't getting the room standard I requested.

Following an email to the hotel I received an apology and free upgrade to what I later discovered was the bridal suite.

During the upgrade process my booking was moved forwards a day, to the day before I was due to arrive! Dinner, that I did not want, had also been added at an additional cost.

Fortunately I was able to visit the hotel and rectify the booking.

On arrival on the correct day, at the correct time my room wasn't ready.

The bridal suite sounds very grand, it isn't. The room is big and has a separate lounge area with TV and coffee/tea making facilities but the furniture is old and grubby. The bedroom area is large with a comfy bed but during the night the wind was howling through one of the windows blowing the curtains which allowed outside lighting to flash across the room. It was only in the morning that we found that this particular window could not be secured and had been flapping all night.

The bathroom is a reasonable standard but the over bath shower floods the bathroom because of a poorly fitted seal on the shower screen.

The central heating was very noisy and the room was cold over night, in hindsight due to the faulty window.

The issues were raised at checkout.

Since my stay I have completed an online survey which is supposedly seen by the general manager, this included my personal email address and booking reference.

I did not receive any acknowledgment to the survey and felt that my concerns were not being treated seriously so I emailed the general manager directly asking if he had seen the survey, there was no response.

So a week later I emailed him again, there was no response.

I note however, that he does respond to comments that are publicly visible, so watch this space.

Overall the room (if the window, heating and bathroom were sorted) would be okay but the quality of it doesn't reflect its price, there are better, cheaper options available a short taxi ride away.

Great stay but hotel needs a little more TLC Great location, gorgeous views and a friendly place to be. Most of it is well presented and the staff are really friendly, accomodating and professional. The bar is open until customers go to bed, too. Which is a real bonus. And although I didn't get to try it, the hot pool with a scenic view looks fabulous (even if it does overlook the car park!). The hallway carpet is in serious need of disposal. It is wearing bald in points and despite being regularly vacuum clened, it is one of the most stained that I have seen in recent times. The design is one of the blander 1980s designs, and it is doing the hotel a diservice. Although the hotel does make sure that the hot buffet breakfast and continental offer is plentiful, it is also somewhat poor value for money at £17 per person. Especially as few of the products appear to be of premium quality. There's a cafe near me that does the a very similar quality breakfast for £5.50.

Despite some disappointing issues, an excellent evening dinner and very good breakfasts, together with good and helpful staff justified the higher 4 star rating.
Downsides
The place focuses on its spa facilities which I understand but personally, the presence in the bar of people in dressing gowns was not something I liked.
The last time I visited, the extensive housing development was not there. I preferred the isolation. It was still an enjoyable stay.

Triple room, fitted 3 adults, good quality bedding, great food, and service from all the staff.
Spa area was great in parts- not keen on the view from the infinity pool, the new housing estate is a little off putting.
I bet this place was a little gem before this.

The evening meal included in our allowance was delicious and breakfast was nice. A buffet but plenty of choice.

Just a shame the ignorant people next door were smoking and our room absolutely stank. We did report it and they did take it seriously but we didn't hear them come and speak to them which they should have done. I know the action is out of the hotela control but they could have followed up a little better.

The duty manager Regan was superb. She is a credit to that hotel. Massage was lovely as was the spa facilities. Nice and clean. But the thermal pool was insanely busy. Was like human soup. Luckily we got in there just as access was allowed so managed to enjoy it before it got so busy.

I would go back as I think the package is very good value.

I think we were 18 in total and used many of the facilities - bar, pool, pizza, restaurant, lovely breakfasts, and a big cold buffet specially arranged etc. Very helpful staff, lovely walk straight from the hotel, dog friendly stay - just the ticket.

Comfortable, but train your breakfast stuff customer service skills! The look on the outside and the mini village it is in. great lady at check in who was professional and polite. spa experience was great and the afternoon tea was perfect, food and service wise. In general we would definitely stay again. The staff in the bar and restaurant also excellent. comfortable and good atmosphere in the bar and lounge, easy parking. Looking forward to visiting in summer the breakfast staff where rude and miserable it left a sour feeling with us as they were the last people we saw before leaving early (we were first in breakfast). The room was basic a bit disappointing for such a great hotel (but it was clean and warm). Even though it was a lower rate room it was much less of a standard expected… the only thing that spoiled the stay was the lady at breakfast yelling she was not set up in a very very rude way and using very unprofessional wording “ IM NOT FINISHED SETTING UP YET, MATE” in a very aggressive and loud manner expecting us to leave breakfast room even though it was 5-10 mins after opening and another person letting us in !! I didn’t leave and continued to get the food I wanted as I had already explained to another staff member not to worry about the hot food. Even though we did not want hot food we noted when we left, the hot food was not fully out 15-20 mins after the stated opening time… we would consider another hotel on this alone next time, it almost ruined the whole stay, which before the final minute was ok.

Very poor service from manager in restaurant as detailed in my feedback form. We were made to feel like we were stealing from the restaurant as our voucher said 3 course but the manager insisted it was only 2. Had to provide our voucher as proof. Then we were accused of having wine when we only had water

Stayed as a couple over the weekend. Very busy upon arrival but staff were working hard to clear the check in queues. Staff very friendly and informative throughout.

Pool and thermal suite were very busy but staff made us aware of this when we went down to the leisure facilities and were very helpful. Still managed to spend a good couple of hours in the thermal suite and pool area, both were of a good standard.

Didn’t eat evening meal on site as it was very busy and fully booked but the buffet breakfast in the morning was great!

Room was a bit dated but was of a good standard.

Would definitely stay again but probably not on a weekend

This was our 3rd time staying at the hotel.
It's on a lovely complex and the staff are all welcoming and there's a friendly vibe throughout.
The grounds are clean and tastefully old fashioned with nice cobbles to walk across to see the shops and to travel to rooms.
The rooms themselves are dated apart from the bathrooms but are cosy. We upgraded to an executive cottage and a little gutted we did. Main reason was that the bed which on the website is described as a king bed was two singles clamped together and whilst this is no issue the problem was it had two single mattresses bonded together by sheets but each had a thick rim around them which when meeting in the middle dug in your body. Other than that the glass bottle of water, robes and chocs on arrival were a nice touch. The entrance to the building we stayed in was a bit of an eye sore but I'd imagine this would be rectified in the near future.
The spa is great with a pool, a range of rooms in the thermal suite and a fantastic hydro pool which is half outdoor. Gives a great tranquil feeling, we went in around 3pm on a Sunday in January and it was jam packed, I suppose this was due to the hotel being busy and probably a lot of people's new year resolutions that have kicked in, popped back in next morning after 8am and it was quiet and and tranquil.
The beer at the bar and restaurant is great and the food is of high quality. This goes for the breakfast too. We also pre-book dinner and the past 2 times was chuffed with the two course menu but this time it had changed and wasn't as appealing so went for the steak with a £10.95 each supplement which is rather excessive for a 10oz sirloin.
I do recommend going because it is a great place, I think we'll leave it a good few months before going back just to give it time for some stuff to change.

We have stayed here 4 times now and it gets better and better each time we stay. We ate at the Drop Inn this time and had home make pizza, which was amazing! Love it here our favourite place. Will be back soon 🥰

Myself and my girlfriend stayed in the hotel and booked a spa treatment. Hotel spa facilities are second to none with multiple saunas, a large reagular pool and a great "hot spring-style" pool that opens up onto a balcony! Jessica and Mia (our massage therapists) were absolutely brilliant and we would highly recommend them and their team 👍🏻 10/10

my room was tired and had 3 beds in it! - the bathroom had some random tray above the loo that fell into the cistern when moved along with all the toiletries - clearly an everyday issue as there were many more bottles in the cistern already
