The hotel is large and the room was great - deluxe king . We got a bed , breakfast and diner package which at £95 was excellent value . However , we were disappointed with the lack of choice on the lunch and diner menus and the quality of food . To be be honest was no better than an average pub . Staff pleasant . Excellent health facilities included

Tried booking this hotel through Booking.com, as far as we were aware the booking was fine until one of the group rang up to check something and the hotel said they had issues with booking.com it was sorted an their room conformed at the rate of £69 per night. She then check that all the other booking had gone through all but one had gone through ours. we rang the hotel to sort it and were told there was no booking and no issue with booking.com if we wanted to stay we could book the same room for £169 the staff member was extremely rude and obnoxious not at all helpful so my wife ended the call in disgust. I contacted the hotel through facebook and twitter but got no reply the hotels website complaints never replied hence this review wedding ruined for us early Uber home Thanks Mercure Blackburn Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa

First impressions lovely. On closer inspection not so !!! Sorry. Staff in the treatment rooms absolutely faultless, patient, relaxing and caring. No complaints here at all. There was an obvious lack of staff which became more apparent as their working day progressed. The young ladies working in the restaurant area where absolutely amazing, polite, funny and they were happy to help and assist. Worth far more than they are probably paid, especially when you compare the absolute rudeness of the restaurant manager!!!!! We all have a bad day, I get that, but wow, we were there to help our best friend celebrate her hen party. We were barked at in no uncertain terms and especially at breakfast we were all told off like children - so disappointing, the lady serving up the hot breakfast was also rude, slopping food on plates like an old fashioned dinner lady. Sorry not impressed. I will not be recommending this hotel. One last thing, perhaps another look at the ladies on the reception desk might be something to do, again one very helpful others condescending and if honest a little rude

Came here with my partner for a night away and a walk round pendle hill. The hotel is lovely, in a great location the room is great and the best shower we've ever had! The reception staff were very helpful and more than accommodating but Chris from the cameo bar was above and beyond. He couldn't have been more helpful. What a great place to stay!

Delightful Room - Lady on reception was great at check in. After watching the England Match against Germany in my room I ventured down to the bar for a drink and something to eat. I was informed by Steph that I could not order food for consumption in the bar area. I asked if I could have a pizza to eat outside and I had the Covid sign (from the bar) waved about and the answer was that I was not allowed to sit outside and eat! OK I said can you please ask a member of the restaurant team to come and take an order for a Pizza? and I will finish my drink and take it to the room. Steph asked me to go to the restaurant and give my order in there. I again asked Steph to please fetch a member of the restaurant team. The young girl disappeared and came back to say that they were busy, I said well when they are not busy ask them to come over. She laughed and walked off! Customer service is totally non-existent and the staff need some serious training. What the staff don't know is that I have has a broken back and have difficulty walking and standing for too long. If I had said I really do not think that it would have made any difference - All my career in business I have travelled all over the country and these staff need some serious customer service training.

Short Review - Overall Decent Place to Stay, food excellent, grounds excellent, staff decent, could just do with a little more money, training and help from Mercure.

Long Review - Came here with friends on a deal with Dinner and Breakfast included in an overnight stay. The hotel reception is welcoming and easy to check in, staff are pleasant. We checked in at around 3pm, our rooms were the Executive rooms and they were spacious, clean and well catered for. Views over open countryside. The bar staff have to wait on you for Covid (Nod to Christopher who was nice, welcoming and pleasant) we ordered several drinks (prices reasonable for a hotel) and enjoyed seating outside in the grounds. Early evening we went to the main restaurant for dinner and we were greeted by the Maître D' (Krishna) who was welcoming also and showed us to our table. Food was excellent, choice was great, we had Pork Belly, Fish of the day and other nice meals. All the staff are excellent in the dining room. Service in the bar was a little slow due to Covid and Customers, I think Mecure could help here with trained Bar Mangers and Staff as it was left to the Dinner Service Team.
Overall though an enjoyable stay for the money, clean, practical, good food and drinks. Would stay again. Come on Mecure invest some money.

My friend and I stayed for one night at this hotel and we just couldn’t recommend it enough and here’s why…

We arrived around 11am from Warwickshire and tried to checkin in the off chance that our room was ready. Being 4hrs earlier than the checkin time, the lovely receptionist on duty on Mon 21st Jun has kindly explained that although the room is not ready, she’ll kindly ask her colleagues to have this done for us, since we arrived earlier - she was ever so nice! (I’m sorry I don’t remember her name).

We had some spa treatments booked and upon arrival, a lovely lady called Anne welcomed us and checked us in for our treatments. The spa manager, Dan, came to say hi and he offered us some drinks which were served by another lovely lady called Jackie! My friend had her treatment booked on Mon afternoon and mine was booked on Tue morning. We explained to Dan that it would be ever so helpful to have both treatments on Mon afternoon, so we can go and explore the area the following morning. Not only he managed to squeeze in my treatment, but he very kindly offered us lunch, without us even having had a booking for this - how very thoughtful!! The cleanliness of the facilities, friendliness of the staff and the quality of the facilities were great too!! So nevertheless to say that our say was going from good to great so far!

After our treatments, we went to checkin to our bedroom and the receptionist from the late shift has given us a lovely welcome, booked us dinner, breakfast and explained a little bit about the hotel (unfortunately, I can’t remember her name). We went to our room, which was a beautiful large room, recently refurbished, very fresh, clean and the bed & pillows were extremely comfortable too!

We were then welcomed for dinner in the restaurant by Krishna, who showed us to our table, being very friendly and nice. Christopher then looked after us for the rest of the night and we enjoyed every part of the dinner! Krishna mentioned that all the team on duty that night were new to the hotel, but oh my God - what a fantastic job everyone is doing! Thank you to all the restaurant team!

The following morning for breakfast, we were welcomed by yet another lovely lady, called Edwena who very kindly served our tea & coffee and got us some nice fresh toast. She explained how the breakfast works at the moment and she gave us the time and space to enjoy breakfast, although someone was always on hand if we needed anything.

All in all, we had such a great stay, spa break and left feeling recharged and ready to return to the daily life!

The hotel has some fantastic staff, great facilities, looking very nice, fresh and loves following an extensive refurbishment!

We can not wait to come back and enjoy more of the northern hospitality! Thank you for a lovely break team Dunk!!

We had a fabulous stay here yesterday! My back massage was lovely, the tranquility room was lovely and relaxing, Sam & Anne were very helpful in rebooking another spa experience this morning, the swimming pool and changing rooms were clean and warm, the evening meal and service by Christopher and all staff was fantastic! The rooms are really spacious and comfortable beds. Plenty of free parking! We really enjoyed our stay and have booked to return and would definitely recommend

Would highly recommend this hotel as they have some great deals and our room was lovely for the price. We really enjoyed using the pool and gym facilities too. I paid for a food package within this booking and we really enjoyed all the meals there too. But one of the best things about our stay was a lovely young waiter called Christopher who provided a great service and looked after us so well both in the restaurant and the bar. Thanks so much for being so attentive Christopher, we loved our stay in the dunkenhalgh for our anniversary and look forward to staying with you again soon.

We arrived at 3pm
And our room was not ready The first room we were checked into around the courtyard had an over powering smell of musty and damp so
We had to ask to move
Rooms have been refurbished
This hotel’s standards have dropped and it is not the place it was
We didn’t have time to use the spa
We had a shower only in the room -no shower cap
Poor quality coffee in the room in the sachets
Bed was comfortable

Breakfast was served in the function room which was like sitting in a school
Dining hall Very poor no tomatoes or mushrooms the scrambled egg had ran out and the server didn’t offer to get more Plates were cold so by the time you took the cooked breakfast to the table it was cold
We have been staying at this hotel for many years but there are now better options for the same money
Very disappointing

This hotel looks great and the room we were in was excellent. Large, clean, bed was comfy, windows were able to be open wide (it was hot weather) and tv and WiFi worked fine, however the breakfast and dinner experience let it down. The restaurant looked nice and the food was good . However it was a buffet and due to COVID it should have been table service really as guests should not be wandering around. Mains were home cooked but desserts were bought in with only two choices. Staff serving the food were asked about the antipasti starter and gave the reply ‘I don’t know’ and ‘it’s what they gave me’. And why were the starters in plastic pots? Mains were on a plate.
Breakfast was same but timings and venue let it down. It was in a large, soulless function room with a carpet that was horrible. Looked like coffee ground spilled all over! Food choices were poor. No fresh fruit salad ( could be pre portioned into plastic pots as was starters at dinner) everything ran out, so if three days of cooked breakfast did not suit then there was only toast/ pastries to choose from. Where was the eggs benedict, kippers, smoked salmon, cold meats and cheese?
We were asked to wait until 10.30 on two days and on the last day the same. However on all the days it was clear that there was not enough staff to operate. Hence spreading guests out.
Also there is no lounge area to relax in. Only the small bar. Most hotels have sofas in reception or elsewhere in the hotel.
All in all a stay we enjoyed but had too many niggles.

Booked one night here for the bank holiday. Bed, breakfast and evening meal. Just lovely. The hotel is stunning, set in gorgeous surroundings. The room had everything we needed and an enormous TV that you can cast from your phone to so could watch Netflix as well as normal channels. Used the pool and jacuzzi, some of the facilities are still closed but the pool was lovely. Special mention to all the staff. Every single person we spoke to was so friendly, helpful and attentive. We will definitely be back for another visit.

Enjoyed my overnight stay at this hotel. I must say every area of this hotel was spotlessly clean, from the grounds, to the room, to the walkway areas, pool and restaurant was so clean hats off to the cleaning team. Room was very quiet too, stayed in the courtyard. Lovely bed and a huge tv. Had a small problem with the hot water when we first got there but was fine later on. Great swimming pool too, a shame the steam room/sauna wasn’t open. Would stay here again and recommend.

I stayed for business during COVID-19.

Great customer service. Breakfast is ordered the night before and you grab it by reception. A hot option is available or a snack option you can grab and get out to your car.

Gym is open and was adequate.

Room was very clean, large and secure. Had an excellent desk and TV which was all I needed. WiFi worked well throughout my stay. parking is free, just pop your registration number in.

The only thing I would say is that I didn't have a working phone in my room. During COVID, this made it difficult to order food for room service.

Food menu was good, served within about 40 minutes both nights and was hot and tasty. It is delivered to your room and quickly tidied away. Will be staying again thank you.

I say unbelievable because after many months in lockdown, and also being ill, I was forced to travel for business purposes.

It felt like a normal hotel stay.

The virtually daily changing Covid restrictions, must be so difficult to impose in a hotel type of environment,.

I have to be very honest and say I genuinely did not feel any impact of the restrictions in my stay.
Yes of course food was room service only, But the quality of food was actually better than normal.

The rooms were tidy and fresh and of course covered clean💪🏼

I am really looking forward to going back next week, to continue the work I started yesterday.

I can certainly recommend the hotel as a secure safe and healthy place to stay.

Stayed here for 12 nights , as our house was uninhabitable due to having bathroom and kitchen renovations.
Room had been recently refurbished to a high standard , bed with new mattress and a wall mounted wide screen TV.
No cleaning services available due lockdown , but fresh towels and bedding delivered to door on request , and similarly any rubbish left outside room was quickly removed.
Limited menu breakfast and evening meals available , all freshly cooked.
Staff were absolutely brilliant and very attentive in these difficult times - it would be wrong to single out individuals , they were all excellent .

I've stayed in this hotel for 3 months for a business trip, all the employees of the hotel are really nice and helpful.
The hotel is clean and the breakfast is good.
The rooms are quit big and comfortable.
Unfortunately I could use gym and spa for one week only because of corona, but they are nice too !
5 stars, if you search for a clean and big hotel with a lot of greens around, this is the right place

The hotel has made every effort to make my stay comfortable and Covid19 safe. Breakfast is excellent and my room is spacious and comfortable. This is my second visit in two weeks and will stay here again if in the area! Very close to motorways without being like a service station! Recommended!

I had to visit for work purposes and was very impressed with the measures they have in place during Covid. I had room service breakfast and evening meal for convenience, which were very good. It’s a shame the spa isn’t open, but I will return and hopefully use those facilities.

We recently stayed in the Dunkenhalgh hotel for 2 nights . The last time I had been here was for my own wedding 12 years ago so I was looking forward to the stay with some fond memories .
The building is a beautiful period hotel, however it seems like it has been run down and looking quite tired. We stayed in the exec room which is very large and has a bath and shower . The shower tray didn’t drain properly (we did inform reception but they didn’t do anything ) - quite annoying as by the end of the shower your feet were immersed in water and the next person had to wait for their shower for 5/10mins. I found the staff at reception not very friendly or helpful , when I turned up my wife had already checked in and gone to the room- it was quite a distance from reception but when I asked for some help they just said “go that way…!” Straight through a wedding party that was taking place .
The swimming pool itself is very nice but the changing rooms and toilets inside are looking dated . Breakfast was so busy and seemed to be understaffed - the selection was quite basic but adequate . Even when we asked for extra towels we had to call reception 3 times and wait ages.
The outside areas are very nice and it’s a good location for the m65 motorway.
I appreciate that it has been a tough 18 months for hotels and this is probably the result of lack of funds possibly to do all the updates and refreshes.
Overall I was a little let down and probably wouldn’t stay again.

We came for a day retreat to enjoy the spa. We really enjoyed the place, the service was so lovely. The facilities are very clean, and overall we had a ball at the saunas and the pool which weren't too crowded. We had two treatments that left us feeling very luxurious. It was well worth the price and would love to come back!
