I have stayed here a few times over the last few months and have been utterly bowled over by the hotel, its facilities and its staff. The 3 rooms I have stayed in have all been highly spacious and have had ideal facilities. The building and its grounds are utterly breath-taking and I have been utterly captivated by every stroll that I have ever taken through them.

The rooms have been of quite generous size and have been exceptional value for money. The layouts have always been very welcoming and the furniture extremely comfortable. My fondest complements go to the designer of the various rooms I have stayed in. They have all been stunning! Striking a delicate balance of modern, sleek interior aesthetics with sophisticated and authentic period features is not an easy thing to achieve, and yet it works perfectly. The amenity of tea and coffee etc. (I am particularly fond of the complementary biscuits!) is of course always a pleasant and homely touch. As if it weren't enough that the building and its grounds are stunning, the surrounding area is truly a sight to behold! It is strikingly intimate and yet escapist. The surrounding fields and woodland which masks the nearby roads enables you to completely forget about the world!

My experience has been excellent, and the staff are certainly no exception. Every member of staff that I have met in my various stays here has been exceptionally polite and courteous, with each tailoring their various idiosyncrasies to their particular personable manner, which in my estimations is always outstanding. Of all of the staff I have met some particularly notable members have stuck out in my mind...

Chuti - One of the most bright and cheerful receptionists I have ever had the pleasure to meet. I have never once seen her without the privilege of being greeted by a spectacular winning smile. This has always been complemented seamlessly by exceptional customer service with any queries I may have had, her attention to detail and swift execution made my experience as a guest a smooth and joyful one.

Amy - Serious professionalism with a firm head for customer service. Her interpersonal manner was firmly on point and I was especially impressed with her focus on the detail aspects of customer service. Her dedication towards getting things right was crystal clear and highly admirable. She was highly personable in every interaction that I have had with her and I found her Diligence and Constancy in her work to be quite reassuring. A commendable staff member all round.

Lucy - A delightful receptionist with one of the friendliest dispositions I have ever seen. I have never once been greeted by Lucy without a profound lift in my spirits. She has a charming manner with customers which I have found exceptionally endearing. Her joy and gratitude in her work is quite apparent, it is a phenomenal breathe of fresh air to experience.

Pierce - Pierce is a very charming man with a superb ability to establish rapport with customers that I have rarely seen. His warmth in interactions with guests is highly evident and I am certain that he takes great joy in carrying out his role. He has the potential to become a very great gentleman.

Mal - Mal is a very pleasant and endearing character with clear dedication to his duty. I found him to be extremely helpful in the brief interaction that I had with him. He seemed to have genuine concern for the quality of my experience and this was beautifully complemented by his ease in his role. He has great warmth about his character which is an exceptional aid in his professional capacity.

Sheri - Swift service with swifter assurances. His manner was both pragmatic and professional. Yet in the midst of dealing with my reservation he remained highly personable and did not neglect in any way the interpersonal aspects of his role. I was immensely impressed by this delicate balance of skills and priorities, as it is a far from simple intersection to get right.

Amjad - A fine gentleman if ever I have met one, outstanding interpersonal manner, and an admirable ability to bring something which I have rarely seen in customer service to the table - Compassion. It was very clear that all of his work was full of heart. I felt a great deal of passion in my interaction with Amjad which made for an enthralling experience as a guest. He is one of the finest hospitality employees I have ever met, I am greatly impressed by his clear love for both the hotel and his role within it.

I am sure there are many other fine members of staff at this hotel, and I would be absolutely delighted to meet them all. There is quite evidently a culture of high standards and discipline, it shows in every aspect of the guest experience and it is a deeply inspiring thing to see.

I cannot recommend this hotel and its staff highly enough, my stays here have been nothing short of magical. I truly cannot express my fondness for the place and I dearly hope to frequent it for many years to come.

We've started at this hotel several times and expect a comfortable quality stay.
Checked in late evening and quite tired from a busy family day. The two reception staff were especially sympathetic and really went above and beyond. Special mention to Sam and Pierce. The hotel was very busy but in no way did that disturb us.
Well done to the Dunkenhalgh family team!

We came on the 23rd as a night away treat for our wedding anniversary. On entering we were warmly welcomed by a lovely member of staff who got us all checked in and they upgraded our room free of charge which was a lovely surprise. The room was beautiful and the bed so so comfy ( so comfy we almost missed breakfast!!). Really nice facilities in the room and the black out curtains really are blackout curtains (another reason we almost missed breakfast).
We paid the additional £10 each for use of the spa. Unfortunately the only facilities in use were the sauna and pool as they had a water supply issue but said someone was on their way. Wad a bit sad as one of the reasons we booked was for the spa and everything it had. Around an hour or so into our afternoon then pool then had to be closed. I did really feel for the staff because it was out of their hands but they did give us a refund no questions asked because of loss of use of the facilities so can't complain at all. They were lovely about it.
The building itself is decorated for Christmas and looks absolutely stunning!
I can't comment really on the food as we ate out that evening.
But spent a wonderful peaceful night just chilling in the room which a few drinks and it was bliss.
Morning was a mad dash as I looked at the clock and it was 10.30! Went down to breakfast to be greeted by the restaurant manager who is an absolute joy. Really funny man who only told us off a little bit ( all in jest). Breakfast was beautiful, quality food and lots of choice.
The only issue we had was parking when we came back from dinner, if the hotel is going to accommodate a huge convention/function as it was doing that night, and have other guests then there needs to be more parking facilities. We had to just park where we could, we weren't blocking anyone on but it wasn't a space so to speak. The next day we had a big no parking warning stuck on the dashboard:/, but there was literally no where to go. As I said, we weren't blocking anyone and not unsafe so it was a bit unnecessary.
Aside from that though we had a wonderful time and will absolutely be coming back again ( hopefully the spa will be fully functioning next time). Thanks again for a lovely staff!

Beautiful hotel, the comfiest beds!
The customer service was amazing, especially from Aziz, who always seemed to be on hand and one step ahead for all of the guests. The staff on reception also were so friendly and helpful and the hotel was so beautifully decorated for Christmas

I had another really lovely stay at the Dunkenhalgh, and although some areas of the hotel look a little rough around the edges the lovely staff more than made up for it. Everyone I encountered was pleasant and cheerful.
I would definitely stay here again, without a doubt.

Cannot recommend this hotel high enough for the experience I had for my 50th birthday!!
I had booked this experience through a Groupon voucher but my other friends had also use the Wowcher site.

First of all I want to see a big thank you to Becky on reception for making our check-in smooth and delightful.
We had a guy to take us to our room who was very pleasant (sorry I forget his name...but he was lovely)

When I got to my room they had given me a free upgrade and a decorated it with a 50 balloon, chocolate box and a lovely sign on the mirror.

I had 12 friends come to stay and the Spa experience is much improved from last time I came... all the steam/ sauna rooms are lovely and it was like a spa thermal journey.
The pool was just the right temperature too. Lovely and warm.

The restaurant experience was amazing... we were all able to have the two course meal option. A big mention to Nina and Sara for making even more special and putting up with our loud noise and late dining experience!

The breakfast was also lovely and lots of choice. I would definitely be rebooking. There is nothing I could fault about this hotel and I would recommend it to anyone who's planning a big gathering or a special day.

Rooms were very cozy and warm without having the heater on. Just loved the daily housekeeping staff. Very lovable and friendly. Thanks to all who made it very pleasant for our 22 day stay. You are a blessing to all.
Thank you 😊 what a pleasant stay

Unfortunately the grand image was not reflected in the room I was in. It was fine for a business trip, but feels tired and unloved. The issues highlighted in the attached photos could be remedied easily, but it seems they haven't got around to it.

The grounds and building looks impressive. Room well decorated and modern. Check in easy and very friendly. However there was some issues:
As we were staying in room 64 - through the courtyard, and it was a very heavy rain at that time, we got to the room soaked, as you need to walk outside to get to your room.

The guttering system caused very loud noise from the rain through the night so our sleep wasn't comfortable.

We have used swimming pool and saunas, which were great. Warm swimming pool and spacious and efficient steam rooms, saunas.

We also went to the bar for evening and this was quite disappointment. We ordered margarita pizza with mushrooms and according to menu it suppose to have mozzarella in it. Instead it was parmeggiano, which make the pizza very salty and extremely oily. We didn't enjoy that. Will we stay again? Probably not.

I stayed here with my best friend for my birthday present from her and honestly it was amazing, Stephen the deputy general manager went above and beyond for us and the service he provided was impeccable and he deserves recognition for this as he is a credit to the establishment.
Our server Chloe (black hair) at the restaurant was so so lovely and extremely attentive also. The room we stayed in was beautifully designed and very welcoming, I had the best nights sleep I have had in a very long time so so comfy.
The food was so delicious at the restaurant for dinner and the breakfast buffet was to die for! So much selection!

I will 100% be back and looking forward to it, thank you for making my birthday one to remember ❤️

Efficient, courteous reception. Bags taken to room for me. The two ladies in the bar were very friendly and so helpful. Aziz (?) in the dining room for breakfast was so welcoming and helpful - offered to get my coffee for me and I saw him bringing other guests’ breakfast for them. Big shout out to all the staff I encountered; the service throughout the hotel went above and beyond and I highly recommend a stay at the Dunkenhalgh.

Arrived late for a 2 night break as we were visiting Manchester. Great location outside of the busy centre, it has a country cottage feel.
We booked a standard room but was complimentary upgraded to an Executive Suite which was a lovely gesture / suprise.
Rooms were clean, hotel was busy of all age ranges + kids which was nice to see. Staff were always present and helpful. My only twinge was the breakfast price (£16.50 each!) for a very small buffet. We regret not venturing out for breakfast but it is what it is. Overall a nice, cosy hotel we would consider this place again if we ever need to be in Manchester :)

Love going here, location is perfect. We even get to have a laugh with the staff. We check in all times of the morning due to working night shifts, and are always welcomed and looked after by staff and management.
With having the spa and pool makes it even better to relax and forget about life for a while. Credit to everyone who works here and makes everyone welcome.

Came here last minute to book 2 rooms as the other hotel was a disaster. Prior to coming, tired to ring the hotel numerous times and no answer.

The receptionist Chitma or Chigma her name was, told us it was fully booked, being very dismissive, unhelpful it felt almost disrespectful despite seeing rooms available on booking.com, her excuse for not helping she was "she logged out the workstation". Maybe understanding she was out in a rush to get off her shift, she could of simply said so, then called her colleague to assist rather than lying its fully booked. It's a shame.

After requesting to speak to a manager, Sherry or Sheryaer came and sorted everything out within 5 minutes with top quality service. Thank you Sherry! In the morning was greeted with Pierce also nice gentleman who is helpful and was apologetic about the unhelpful colleague from last night, and was greeted by Lucy who seemed friendly.

For the price you pay, you cannot complain about some imperfections you may come across in the room. Comp minibar with couple of drinks. Spa facilities did not have time but additional cost £10. Breakfast was OK.

Thank you Sherry, Pierce and Lucy!

Having stayed here previously and always having wonderful experiences where we felt welcome and part of the Mercure family, it made sense to book this venue for dinner, bed and breakfast, to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary .
We truly received the VIP treatment it was clear the staff knew we were celebrating so many well wishes!
The reception was very busy as there was a Harley Davidson convention, so a high volume of check ins, the reception team were not flustered but worked through with cheerful dispositions and timely efficiently - well done Becky and Chiti.
Sarah and Emily ensured our room was welcoming with a Dunkenhalgh anniversary card and there were some behind the scenes team members with towel sculptures we did not have the heart to dismantle ❤️
Due to the aforementioned convention, which added lots of personality and education to our stay, the bar was very busy due to the operational effectiveness of the team everyone was served within a short time frame resulting in a festive and fun atmosphere.
Ben showed us to our sparkling dinner table and took some photos for our memory chest, then ensured we had the critical celebratory drinks and the wonderful Chloe advised us of the dinner package and our further options. Service was at a steady pace allowing us to chat and rest between courses at no point did we feel under pressure to vacate the restaurant although it was always at capacity.
The food offer and value had definitely moved up a bar we were spoilt for choice and really did need time to savour each mouthful ridiculously the gravy was the show stealer for me 😄
As ever we visited the spa and steam room again lots of work has been actioned here and it was a very relaxing experience setting the pace for our weekend.
Breakfast was very well stocked with great variety and it was lovely to receive the welcome back from Aziz a long standing and real ambassador for the brand.

Myself and my husband have just returned from an overnight spa break at the Dunkenhalgh. This was our third visit to this hotel and have stayed in a beautiful, spacious room on each stay. This time we have a very pleasant surprise as we had been upgraded for free on arrival to a superior room which was a lovely touch.
Staff are all very friendly and welcoming. The beds are comfy and the rooms have been exceptionally clean on each stay we have had.
The pool and spa areas were also very clean and was nice and quiet whilst we were there so plenty of beds around the pool to relax on and plenty of space to access to steam rooms etc.

We had a 2 course meal in the restaurant which we both enjoyed and was delicious and reasonably priced. Breakfast was lovely (as has been on the last 2 visits as well), plenty to choose from, plenty of choice with hot food and lots of fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt etc.

We will definitely be returning, thank you Dunkenhalgh.

Recently stayed at the Dunkenhalgh for a few nights.
The very first thing we noticed was how friendly and welcoming all the staff were. This continued throughout our stay. BUT, the ineficiency within the service they provided was evident in all departments. They all worked hard, tried to appear professional but made mistakes all to often. The organisation and staff training is certainly something that should be examined!
The hotel itself is tired and really could do with maintenance and redecoration. The bathroom, door was falling off in our room, the electric radiator did not work.
Food was good but often confused and wrong choice served. Breakfast is Ok (£16.50, I think). But very little choice.
Sadly, like so many hotels in Britain these days, they seem to run with a very tight budget that reflects in poor service and conditions.

Amazing experience!

Me and my mum visited for a weekday getaway. We were greeted by Becky and Lucy, they were warm, welcoming and genuinely overall great at introducing us to the hotel. We were upgraded to a different room for free, the breakfast was lovely, and the spa room fantastic.

Thank you again to Becky, Lucy and the Dunkenhalgh Hotel and spa for a lovely, relaxing experience.

Will definitely return 😍

Very pleasant stay. Room was more of a little house on a little street rather than a stay in a hotel. No umbrellas available, ehich they could do with investing in. I did ask for the heating to be put on/ fixed as a small radiator doesn't do. The radiator at the door did come on the same afternoon but again, other 2 in the room off and broken. Pool is nice and clean. Sauna rooms nice but whilst there I witnessed someone " snot" into the provided shower in the wetroomarea what everyone has to go on and a guy taking a shave in the steam room! Maybe send a member of staff to look about and do a check in there now and then or some signs up ? Food was nice, staff lovely , becky on reception very nice and helpful.

Hotel and indulge package stay. On arrival Becky was very helpful and friendly. The room was very spacious and comfortable. Whilst visiting the bar and restaurant Liam and Mal were very welcoming and explained about the restaurant. The food was lovely. Whilst checking out with Lucy in was hassle free and we had the indulge spa package booked at 12 for our treatment face and body which was brilliant by Danielle. We had a light lunch which Ann served us and she was really helpful with information of booking another spa package. Emma booked the spa day in 4 weeks and was very good at explaining the treatments etc. Cannot wait till our next visit. Thanks

Booked with spa breaks which was DBB a bottle of Prosecco and spa access and complimentary upgrade to an executive room. Should’ve know on check in that it wasn’t going to be great as I had to fight to get the upgraded room that had been part
Of the booking.
To be fair the room was nice and the bed was one of the most comfortable I’ve slept in. That’s about all of the good points.

Spa was not great - the pool was freezing, changing rooms, both male and female, were grotty and in need of refurbishment. Saunas were ok. But It’s not a thermal journey as advertised. No hot tub or anything that made it feel spa like. Didn’t have a treatment so can’t comment on that.

Decided not to eat in the restaurant and asked for room service. This took over 2 hours and 2 visits down to ask where it was. When the food did arrive it was cold and underwhelming.

Breakfast was just ok. Very busy and a basic offering.

Definitely not 4 stars and in need of a revamp was my overall thought and we wouldn’t be back in a hurry.

We were on a coach trip. So I think we were undervalued.
Room 39 in the stables block. Near the covered in entrance to the hotel. Noisy with smokers in the evening.
Room. Ok but reported 3 light not working. 1 replacement and 2 not even having a bulb in?
Bathroom. No heated towel rail or radiator in the room. Very cold at night especially why the small window was jammed open.
Tea tray. Ok but no biscuits? Asked for some had told we do not give them to coach passengers. What???
Food was ok. Service a bit slow and milk for coffee/tea left on table and curled.
I put it down to being a coach trip. Would do better.

Very much new to writing reviews but I had too today after tonight, when it has been absolutely brilliant service. The staff have gone above and beyond for everyone as I’m writing this from us and another couple in the bar. Chloe was outstanding the level of service she has is impeccable for being just a young girl. She gave us table service in the bar for our food because the bar was getting quite backed up, made our coffees and brought them over so my elderly mum didn’t have too. Another couple mentioned her ability to make people laugh and put a smile on their face, we seen her getting along with every customer she spoke too like she had known them for years. Absolutely brilliant, words can’t express how good the staff work well together. The bar staff were great too, Liam and Sean keeping up with us making the queue never ending. Keep up the good work guys and the banter! Credit to the hotel. Sarah H.
