Really enjoyed our two night stay amazing location and very grand entrance to the hotel. The was lovely and big room comfortable bed and very quite and slept well. The food was also very good we had breakfast and evening meal and could not fault it. The hotel also has a swimming pool and spa which we also enjoyed using. Highly recommend having a massage if you can very relaxing indeed and a great way to end a busy day. Everyone was very friendly and so thank you to everyone and we will definitely be back.

This hotel was a last minute get away for a few days just me and the wife.
Yes we done the room upgrade I didn’t feel there was much point though as the standard looked just as good
The grounds were really well looked after great photo opportunities
The staff were great one night was really hot messaged them came straight up with a fan great job
The restaurant great food was great would of like a more extensive menu choose to eat out one night loads of close options
The spa facilities yeah great very clean and again polite staff nothing was a trouble.
Would I stay again definitely 100%
I understand upgrades take time but to make it more pleasant for me I would of loved a air conditioner unit especially after upgrading rooms

Then to upgrade the hotel and install e.v chargers would of been a real treat

All in all very good and would return

We initially accessed the Spa and had a foot scrub and massage. Stacey and the girls were so lovely, the massage felt very personal targeting key areas of pain/troubles rather than the standard massage you normally get. We then accessed the other spa facilities, which was very relaxing. The afternoon tea was delish.

The overnight stay was also lovely. We stayed in a privilege room and it was a great size and very comfortable. We sat in the court yards and gardens in which there are many of. The building itself is stunning with grandeur, beautiful staircase, and detailing throughout.

The breakfast was also a good selection and the dining areas and modern and well decorated.

As an advisory to the hotel I think they need to update the photos to reflect any renovations to show all the hardwork 😊

Our family stayed overnight for a family gathering. From checking in to checking out, we were greeted by smiles. The staff we encountered were so friendly. One even kindly informed us of the history of the building and showed us a painting of the lady whose spirit has been spotted from time to time. She didn't
Make an appearance to us! The rooms were large, well appointed and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was plentiful, and lots to choose from. We enjoyed our stay, and will definitely stay here again. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is for the odd swimming hours for children, and the fact you have to pay to use the pool

Stayed here as we were attending a wedding a nearby wedding venue. The hotel is nice, I wouldn’t say 4 star but it was adequate for what we needed. The drinks prices are high which is to be expected but the bar staff were really lovely and a great selection of local drinks in addition to standard ones. The bedrooms are tired and need some tlc, did what they needed to and we weren’t in them much. Breakfast selection was good and you can request vegetarian sausage which is nice but the lady who sat us down was quite rude and miserable. When we got in to the room we had some tea/coffee facilities but literally one tea bag and one sachet of coffee i called reception and asked for some milk as we didn’t have any they said they would bring some but they never did. It’s ok for a night. I wouldn’t bother with room service it’s really pricey and not a great selection but loads of local takeaways deliver which we did do.

Booked this hotel as near a concert were going to, it’s a beautiful looking hotel in well looked after grounds. We had a really large room (14) and large en-suite, the only gripe was the towel radiator was on permanently which wasn’t great as it was a hot day, the receptionist said she would ask the duty manager to have a look but it was still on when we got back. The breakfast was lovely and the food was a very good standard. The bar staff are super polite.
To note there is lots of stairs and steps around the hotel

My husband and I had a very relaxing visit to the hotel. The staff were very pleasant and attentive but a special mention must go to Mal who worked at the bar. He made contact with us on our early arriva whilst waiting for check in. We ordered coffees . His personal skills and confidence were outstanding. He was keen to chat and offer any assistance we needed during our stay offering advice about the hotel and its surrounding areas. He was also complimentary about his other working colleagues which was refreshing.
Mal made our stay very enjoyable. He is a great asset to the hotel. Should his special skills be recognised he should prove to have a bright successful future ahead which ever path he chooses.

Chose this hotel for a wedding, as it said it had EV chargers, we travelled 250 miles to find they didn't have any working. So not at all happy. They gave us a swimming pool pass but couldn't use it as had to leave early to charge the car elsewhere.

Just back from a 4 night stay with a coach tour. The exterior needs a bit of tlc but don't we all. The procedure for room allocation was very straightforward. Our bedroom/bathroom was spacious and clean and our water pressure was excellent. It took a bit of time at dinner on the first night but we were a very large coach party and once we had our allocated tables the remaining nights were great. We have been on many coach tours and I can honestly say this was the best food we have ever had. Being gluten free the choice I had was far better than other places I have stayed. The two fish dishes I had were beautifully cooked,as were all our meals, and a big thank you to your kitchen staff. Plenty of choice at breakfast and everything was replenished regularly and hot. Without exception all the members of staff we encountered were welcoming, friendly, polite and hard working. Special thanks to Aziz, Chloe and Lilly, a credit to your hotel. Thank you all for a wonderful few days.

Have just had the most amazing time at The Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa. The night was to celebrate our 30th Anniversary and I cannot thank the hotel enough for going that extra mile to make our stay so special, from the flowers in our room to the chocolates and rose petals. The little touches made the stay so very special. Thank you, have stayed here before and will be back.

From the moment we arrived every member of staff friendly and helpful.special mention to Pierce who welcomed us and Aziz at breakfast The room immaculate the extras were exceptional the work that had gone into making our anniversary special was above and beyond everything I expected. The bar and restaurant were very good and again staff friendly and helpful. Tried the spa in the morning again everything spot on. As my wife said the best hotel we have ever stayed in. Felt like royalty way we were treated and value for money dinner bed and breakfast and balloons/chocolates package.(all the other extras bed decoration plate decoration mirror were all a fantastic surprise done by hotel. We stayed here for 3 nights upon arrival we had to change rooms as the locks weren’t working in our first room we then moved all luggage etc to another room.Mercure have no changed their policy of charging guests £10 per visit for the pool access witch before April was free including the gym use.the breakfast was nice and plenty of options.i want to give a special mention to Amy for helping us with our rooms and also gave us a a free pool access for the inconvenience.special mention to jack at the bar.also big thanks to aziz at breakfast always welcoming and very helpful.

We had a really lovely experience here for our first wedding anniversary. Room was a good size, breakfast was a good spread, and we enjoyed use of the spa facilities (£10pp for the day felt reasonable).
Aziz was particularly welcoming and made us laugh!
It's a large antique-style hotel, and was relatively busy whilst we were there.

Average hotel- in need of some TLC! Not like I have heard it was units former life. It’s like a warren to get to your room! Some parts of the hotel seem run down and almost derelict. Not much staff once you’re past the reception and the breakfast was the worst I’ve come across. Very little options. The spa was lovely though.
I won’t stay again I’m sad to say.

Thank you to Emily & Edwina for making our Prom last night such an amazing experience. There were 261 of us and everybody had a fantastic night. I would definitely recommend the Dunkenhalgh as a venue . The food was lovely and the staff were very professional . A good night was had by all.

Came for the spa facilities on my birthday, the spa itself had some good facilities but the staff seemed like they didn’t know what they were doing. We didn’t get a tour of the spa so we had no idea where the sauna was and no staff around to ask, waited 20 minutes at the bar for someone to serve us as nobody was around again. Food was nice but just seriously let down by their staff and was upset as it was my birthday.

Our room was in the former stables and it was comfortable with a up to date bathroom. The bed was large and comfortable but the room was a bit cold and there was no heating/air conditioning control in the room.
The spa facilities were excellent and the restaurant served delicious food in the evening and there was a good breakfast buffet in the morning.
The staff gave a warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble.

Conveniently located just off the M65, the hotel comprises an old historic mansion and two modern three-story extensions. In this mix is a large function room and numerous other smaller function and meeting rooms. It can be a long walk from your room to the restaurant. My room in the extension was very spacious with two twin beds, plenty of storage, big tv and all was smart and spotless. The step-in shower was very efficient. Although the window faced towards the road we found the noise to be acceptable, although I had to be careful opening the window as the wooden frames were a bit delicate. I was disappointed that there was no safe in the room, otherwise a nice comfortable room.
The restaurant has a comfortable bar-meal area as well as an extensive dining area. All the staff we met were friendly, helpful and efficient, meals were good and served in a relaxed way. Breakfast was buffet-style and adequate, although as a 4-star it did seem a little underwhelming. I would have expected to have been served tea or coffee pots at the table rather than queuing at the self-service machine.
Plenty of parking outside, but then again as a 4-star hotel standing in its own grounds they should not be charging guests for parking. A good hotel but I felt that it dipped slightly below my expectations as a 4-star.

Upon approaching the hotel, the exterior was impressive. The reception provided a warm greeting and ample information. Our room was located through the hotel, down some steps, and at the end of an outdoor courtyard. Fortunately, it wasn't raining. We had reserved a table for 8:30 PM, but reconsidered after noticing the bar prices: £6.40 for a pint of standard lager.

The room was basic, with only one set of towels for two guests—a common practice in many hotels. However, my wife found nail varnish on her pillowcase, and the room featured an unsightly portable oil heater.

There was no hot water from the sink's hot tap when arrived, and the second shower head bracket was barely hanging on the wall. The heated towel rack was positioned too close to the toilet, leaving little room and posing a burn risk. The shower itself had such poor water pressure that it was barely functional all weekend. Bed was comfortable.

While breakfast was enjoyable, the waiting staff on Saturday morning seemed lethargic and at one point were stood staring at us while we ate. They also cleared only half of the plates, leaving the rest on our table. Sunday’s service was an improvement. This hotel isn’t a patch on the Mercure we’ve stayed at in Bridgwater. I wouldn’t make the effort to stay here again unless it improves.

Overall, a 3-star experience at best.

Had a very enjoyable one night stay with my wife. Location is very good with some nice grounds. We used the gym and spa which were very good. Had a three course evening meal and full breakfast and even though we arrived at 9.30 plenty of food available and very tasty but the superb staff made our stay.

Splendid hotel. Large executive room with great shower. Bed and pillows very comfortable. Easy parking ( make sure you enter car number as soon as you arrive). Free bottle of wine on arrival and free soft drinks in fridge. Dinner menu a bit limited but tasty. Hotel staff were the best with a friendly and warm welcome at reception when we arrived. Mal in the bar was exceptional, he was very thoughtful and kind, even sorting out food for us before official serving time as we had to get to Blackburn hospital for visiting time. We really appreciated his efforts. The rooms were super clean, a credit to the lovely Alice in domestic services. Would very happily stay again.

I would like to thank the staff at Dunkenhalgh for upgrading my Daughter n Son in law to a privilege room for her birthday and having the flowers n chocolates I arranged to be in the room on her arrival. The hotel even provided a birthday balloon. My daughter was very happy with her stay with the little touches, they would recommend anyone to stay here, My Daughter n Son in law had their wedding here many years ago and was happy to celebrate her birthday last night, They used the pool and Spa and had evening meal.

I haven't been to the Dunkenhalgh in a number of years but I can honestly say that the customer service I have received from Kieran Chamley, the Health Club & Spa Manager has been excellent! Good old fashioned quality, polite and efficient customer service that is rarely found. Thank you 😊
