For the last 20 years World Book Day has introduced and encouraged children to explore the wonderful world of reading.
Reading is so important, and anything that inspires children to read for fun is fantastic. Not only does reading regularly increase your child’s vocabulary, it also improves their general knowledge and gives them a much better understanding of the world around them, and of other cultures too.
This Thursday (2nd March) gives children all around the UK the chance to dress up as their favourite character from a book. Schools and community groups will be taking part and holding events that celebrate authors, illustrators and the joy that reading brings.
Children will also receive book tokens that enable them to buy selected titles for just £1. When you get your book token, all you need to do is to take it to your local bookshop and swap it for one of the ten exclusive, new and completely free £1 World Book Day books. It’s as simple as that!
Now although this is great for kids, many parents will be feeling the pressure of coming up with costume ideas, especially if you're short on time. Here’s our list of Top 10 costume ideas to help you decide:
The Cat In The Hat
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
The Queen Of Hearts
Little Red Riding Hood
World Book Day is wonderful. Anything that encourages children to use their imagination and read for pleasure is brilliant. So, enjoy the costume making and make sure those vouchers are put to good use!
