Ulverston comes alive this weekend as the fabulous Retro Rendezvous takes place across the town.

This wonderful event brings  the finest retro, music, cycling, fashion, stalls, bikes, vintage cars & more to the streets of Ulverston and the by ways of the marvellous South Lakes (There’s even the chance to immerse yourself in the music and dance provided by the performers at the Furness Tradition festival that also takes place this weekend too)

For two whole days, you’ll be transported back in time– so dig out the old suit or dress and get into the mood for an unforgettable weekend!

 

There’s so much going on we’d hate you to miss anything, so here’s what’s on where this weekend.

Friday 8th July

9pm The Rhythm Slingers Opening Gig

The Rhythm Slingers are a dynamic Rock And Roll Band from Gloucestershire that specialise in Country, Swing, Rhythm & Blues and Rock ‘n’ Roll. Armed with a foot-stomping repertoire of original songs and classic covers, the band play an energetic set of rockin’ tunes faithful to the spirit of the era.

Saturday 9th July

All Day from 10am: Tintype Trailer

The Tintype Trailer will be located in front of Glynis House, Brogden Street. 

Michele Selway and Alex Mannion-Jones, together have a background that covers photography, theatre, film-making and fine art.

This summer they launched their newest project: The Tin Type Trailer, a traveling Victorian darkroom.

Michele has been perfecting the Wet Plate Collodion process (the main method of photography between 1850 and 1871) for three years and was enthusiastic to share her expertise with a wider audience. Teaming up with the showmanship of her partner Alex they can now travel to any event, location or educational space to engage the public in the history of photography and the magic of this traditional 19th century process.

All Day from 10am: Retro Gin Palace

The fabulous Retro Gin Palace come to us courtesy of Virginia House. Located in front of the Laurel and Hardy Museum.

 

All Day from 10am: Vintage Tea Rooms

The very pleasant Vintage Tea Rooms will be located in Brogden Street, in front of the Laurel and Hardy Museum.

 

All Day from 10am: Display of Classic Prams

A beautiful display of classic prams, displayed behind the Sun Hotel, Market Street.

There will also be a Classic Pram Promenade, starting outside the Coronation Hall Saturday 2pm

 

All Day from 10am: Displays of Classic Motorcycles and Cars

An exciting showcase of classic motorcycles and cars runs throughout the whole weekend.

New Market Street and Theatre Street car park.

12pm Harriet Ball

Harriet Ball (Hattie Bee) studies Musical Theatre in Leeds and is a lover of all things vintage. She sings regularly at events all over the north of England. This will be her first appearance in Ulverston, and her first appearance at Retro Rendezvous. We are looking forward to seeing her at the festival

 

1pm Fuse

A Fun Live Music Acoustic Duo – with Guitars, Mandolin, Djembe Drum, Great Vocals and Harmonies. Performing songs you know and love from the 1960’s onwards

 

2pm Blue Heaven Jump Band (1920s style)

 

2pm Fashion Parade

Fashion Parade starts in front of the Coronation Hall and moves around to the stage 2pm.

 

3pm Pete’s Record Hop and Dancers

 

6pm Cyclists Get Together at the Hope and Anchor with Film Screening of “A Sunday in Hell”

Cyclists get together at the Hope and Anchor Pub, Daltongate for a screening of the films “A Sunday in Hell”

 

7pm “Some Like it Hot!” Screening and Prohibition Cocktails

Some Like it Hot will be our feature film for Saturday night. 7pm at the Roxy Cinema.

Wear your best vintage attire for our wonderful prohibition era cocktail soiree!

We’re closing off  Market St and New Market St on Sunday for the very special Cotton Town Hot Club! Come down for the very best jive music, and have a jive lesson! 11am – 3pm
