Life Leisure, a charitable trust that manages Life Leisure Barrow Park, has been shortlisted for four awards at the 2019 UKActive Uprising Awards, which recognises the best and brightest in the UKs fitness industry.

Seb Rowe, Head of Business Development at Life Leisure, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be nominated for so many awards at the most prestigious Leisure industry awards on the event’s calendar.

“We strive to deliver a fantastic service to our community and to be shortlisted for these four awards is a recognition of the whole team’s dedication to providing an exceptional service to the community.”

Life Leisure, which relaunched Park Leisure Centre as Life Leisure Barrow Park last year following a £1.25m overhaul, is a not-for-profit enterprise which puts the community at its core.

Its Simple Movements Improve Life Every day (SMILE) programme – which is a low impact and gentle exercise concept developed by Life Leisure to encourage older adults to become more active – has been shortlisted for the ‘Activation of the year Award’.

And its Physical Activity Referral in Stockport (PARiS) scheme, which is an Exercise Referral scheme designed to help inactive people with chronic mild to moderate medical conditions become and stay more physically active, has been shortlisted for the Healthy Community Award.

And finally, Life Leisure’s staff development programme, RTB (Row-the-Boat), which encourages and develops staff from across the business to take on more responsibilities and provides ongoing developmental opportunities, has been nominated for a Transformational Leadership Award.

Life Leisure – which looks after 12 leisure facilities in Greater Manchester - has also been nominated for the Regional and National Health Club of the Year for Life Leisure Grand Central in Stockport, which has recently undergone renovations of its children’s pool and health spa.

The UKActive Training Awards, which were established to celebrate the success of the activity workforce and the very best of Learning and Development within the sector, are supported by CIMPSA and sponsored by Active IQ.

The winners will be announced during a glitzy ceremony on June 6 after each finalist is given the chance to meet the judges and discuss their individual schemes in a ‘judges houses’ style event.
