A wonderful night last weekend for the seven course taster menu. All courses were fantastic and equally tasty. We also got the cheese board add on and would definitely recommend! All staff were very friendly and was great to talk to the chef at the end. Thank you for the lovely evening!

We went for a family treat (grandparents and adult children) and the food, atmosphere and service were certainly that!
7 wonderful course with delicate and bold flavour combinations which were both tasty and original. My favourites on this night were - pan seared duck with sweet potato terrine and smoked cauliflower AND the amazing lemon meringue. I also enjoyed sitting opposite the kitchen where I could watch the chef at work. We were well looked after by Abby and Ellie - THANK YOU. A lovely evening for all of us.

Just returned from a fantastic evening at Base near Ulverston in Cumbria. From the chefs snacks through to the puddings and petit fours every mouthful was devine, my favourite course was the pork with apple, and great value for money as well

Good food, well prepared with a lot of care and attention. You can see the chef plating up. Only slight disappointment was the cheese course as the three cheeses were on the bland side. Otherwise every other course was memorable for its flavour combinations. Menus change every week and are posted on the website so you can choose one that takes your fancy. Would certainly recommend.

We were very impressed with chef Mark Satterthwaites 8 course Valentines menu. Each course was excellent but special mention must go to the Treacle cured salmon and the Chateaubriand. We are lucky to have a fine dining establishment such as this in town and I would encourage anyone who enjoys good food and wine to pay it a visit. We will be back soon.

The best dining experience around, with lovely serving staff and clearly talented chefs. Would recommend wholeheartedly to anyone.

If you love food this is a must! Second time here and it did not disappoint.

Food is on another level. Beautifully presented and every bite gets better. The staff are always attentive and wonderful. Being 6 months pregnant, the chef was very accommodating to each course.
Looking forward to the next visit.

We managed to get a last minute table cancellation and had the Xmas 5 course menu, and wow it was fantastic! Great value for money and every course was superb will definitely be going again soon! Highly recommend:)

Amazing evening with the tastiest of food. We were lucky enough to taste the December menu which was so delicious, filling and memorable. Each course was meticulously prepared - and watching chef creating the dishes was great. Service is simple, low key, professional and spot on for the setting. Would totally reccommend for a memorable night out.

A lovely menu of tasty food, well presented and good portions for a tasting menu. The two desserts were 'normal' size. Not too long a delay between courses and the whole menu was served in two hours to 16 people. Just right.

We were so lucky to get a cancellation here, which made our whole weekend in Ulverston. Top notch food and service, with beautiful wine pairings. The food quality was amazing with Chef accommodating vegetarian needs at the last minute. Front of house are friendly and warm with great menu knowledge and work really hard to ensure the best experience. We were all really impressed and I will definitely be back again. Thanks for a memorable evening to all the staff and Chef at Base.

Faultless food and service. Highlight was the pumpkin and pear starter. Vegetarian food was superb too.

It is a cafe during the day, and when we visited and had the best millionaire shortbread ever.

A fantastic evening having the tasting menu - the food is amazing, all cooked beautifully, and service and staff really friendly and engaging. Hard to pick a highlight as there were so many. We’ve also been for lunch and this is just as good, our little one loves it!

I had wanted to try this place for a while as it is local. I was fortunately, spoilt with good food from an early age as my mother is Italian.
I love food and try to strive to experience good food. I can honestly say that it was the most amazing culinary experience I have ever had, Sorry Mam😪.
I could not fault it from start to finish. Oh. The sorbet made my eyes water, it was that divine. We are so lucky in South Cumbria to have such an excellent experience on our humble doorstep ❤️❤️❤️

Two family groups from one family went there last week. 7 course taster menues were memorable with a huge variety of excellent dishes with a strong local sourcing, good accompanying wines and superb staff. We even discussed the day's Wordle puzzle and talked with Mark at some lenght which was very special too! Really excellen tthank you! gOOD VALUE AS WELL.

I stumbled across this jewel of a place whilst heading back down from the Ulverston monument one day.
I noticed they did a 7 course taste testing menu changing on a weekly basis. It seemed exceptional value @ £49.95 per head even included coffee which a lot of places add as an extra. I knew we had some friends visiting us for the weekend just gone at our caravan & knew that they would like this menu too. I booked ahead & you pay £9.95 per person deposit but that is refundable if you cancel with 72 hours notice then it’s not refundable, seemed a logic thing to do as they do source the fresh ingredients a day or so before & it’s only fair in my opinion that you let them know if cancelling or forfeit the deposit.
We arrived on Friday eve, shown to our table & the chef then brought out some small homemade blinis with salmon cream cheese & beetroot crumb as an appetiser, delicious. There is a wine paring menu if you wanted to choose this but we decided not on this occasion choosing a lovely Rose blush wine nicely chilled.
The meal is at a set time 7pm so that is when the individual courses are served … each course is served with about 1/2 hour to enjoy before the next course arrives. It was a joy to see the enthusiasm by the chefs as they lovingly put the courses on the plates. When each course is delivered to your table the waiter/waitress explains what’s on your plate but I had taken a picture of the menu when I found the place so was able to remind my friends what we had on our plates.
I didn’t take a picture of the celeriac volute but the rest I did …. Every single course was absolutely delicious , the 4 of us were in food heaven. The place was quiet as every diner was taking in the sheer magic that was in front of us.
At the end of the meal we decided to share the optional cheeseboard between us … fab.
We were the last to leave after having a chat to the owner/chef about how he started in the catering business & ended up doing what he clearly loves to do.
We will absolutely return to experience another gastronomic delight as will my friends. If you love fine dining without any pretentious surroundings & a bargain price then I recommend you try here. You don’t need to dress up if you don’t want too everyone just comes for the experience that Base gives you.

Enjoyed lunch and dinner at this remarkable restaurant. Recommend both highly and the tasting menu dinner is reason alone to return to Ulverston. Seven perfect little courses and you can see them being prepared, all with local ingredients from within a few miles. Loved everything about the evening. Chef gladly accommodates any dietary requirements. Don't miss out on the experience if you have the chance to go.
