Another excellent meal at Base with chef Mark Satterthwaite. This time it was the special December menu. All the courses were outstanding with my highlight being the Roast belly pork. We are huge fans of Base. This is without doubt our favourite place to eat in the local area. Give it a go for a special occasion. It’s also excellent value.

Spotted while walking from Ford Park to the Barrow Monument. What a find!! Imaginative dishes, fabulous flavours, delightful service … and a quick personal chat with the engaging person we now know to be Mark himself. We’d recommend this place to anyone. And we’d love to return when we’re next in Ulverston. Thanks team. Your Rosette is no mystery … it’s evidently pure skill!

The food here is outstanding, hands down the most delicious and tastiest food I've ever had. The food is presented extremely well and cannot be faulted. The chef and the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and wines being served. The only reason I've not given 5 stars is because another small group were being very loud and expressing some very derogatory views and the staff wouldn't say anything to them. Other than that I would highly recommend.

We went on Thursday night when Mark serves a 4 course dinner. Each dish evoked murmurs of delight and enjoyment. Locally sourced food and culinary skill made it an evening to remember.
This is truly a remarkable find tucked away under the lighthouse hill above Ulverston in South Lakeland.

Been here a few times now, and each visit has been an absolute treat!
I enjoy the set menu which is a unique experience to Ulverston, each course is delicious as well as being beautifully presented. The kitchen is open so you can watch the works of art being created by the Owner (Head Chef) and his team.
The staff are attentive and welcoming, I like that you arrive at 6:30 ish and the five courses are spaced out nicely, making the evening relaxed and there’s no feeling of being rushed, we left around 9:30. The evening menu is the perfect treat for any special occasion!
We have also been for lunch which is equally as enjoyable, we had flatbreads which were freshly prepared and delicious.
We will be returning again soon!

A really incredible experience. Firstly, I should highlight I have gluten and dairy intolerances, and the entire menu was adapted to ensure I could eat everything (all 7 delicious courses!).
This aside, the mackerel was phenomenal, and the lamb was unlike anything I’d had before. For it to be locally sourced, and presented to such a high standard, we couldn’t have been more impressed. The open kitchen was an added treat to see everyone carefully plating up each dish.
This on top of the fact they were so accommodating for my allergens. Home made gluten free bread, gf+df shortbread, pear sorbet, and vegan horseradish cream. I could go on at the wonderful adaptations made to the meal so I could experience everything.
We will be back, and I couldn’t praise it more highly.

Took my Grandma for the evening meal for her 80th. It was incredible! Much better than most of the Michelin recommended restaurants around the Lakes. Highly recommend - we will be back!

What an unexpected little gem. We were only looking for a sandwich but came across this cafe on our walk in Ulverston. Had flatbreads, beautifully prepared and presented. No hesitation recommending here as a place to eat.

Wow! The food was certainly fine dining. The chefs can be seen working from the restaurant and everything seems well organised with no noise or great fuss from them just beautifully crafted dishes delivered in a timely fashion. Very hard to choose a favourite as they were all so good! Well worth a visit - we will be back.

Another amazing meal at Base! Mark and his team are always welcoming and provide great service and superb cuisine. Always difficult to choose a favourite course, but as a none fig liker, my favourite was Figs and Blue, a scrummy plate of texture and tastes, with a warm fig!

Once again, the Lunch Club menu was fabulous. Every course was bursting with flavour, some I’ve never tasted before. I always enjoy the duck dishes and it did not disappoint this time….cooked to perfection.
I have to say the lemon posset was to die for….I have never tasted such a deep richness of lemon before.
Overall fantastic and the chef made time to welcome us and speak to us after the meal. Great service, comfortable surroundings.

The coronation chicken - just amazing - lovely, subtle flavours, smoked chicken beautiful spiced mayonnaise and presented so well. The humus too so good - but the chicken was the star, don’t miss it.

We go here most weekends after parkrun for coffee and breakfast, the atmosphere is wonderful, the staff are very friendly and nothing is ever too much trouble. Reasonably priced, an excellent place to meet friends and also a good resting point before a walk up the hode. Highly recommend.
